The only positive point is the location (close to Times Square)
Very dissatisfied for several reasons
- obsolete rooms for air conditioning, VMC, lights. In short, nothing worked.
- Gallivant is located next to a bar/disco: music that makes the walls and doors shake. If you want to sleep properly this is not the right place.
- very average service: "ice machine and drinks" which absolutely do not work.
In summary, the quality displayed is absolutely not there. Which is a shame for this beautiful location.
But it's still OK if you stay one night.

Very small bed. The elevators were not working. There was an ice machine on only one floor that you had to go up stairs. The room had no mini bar, no meals, no breakfast. The attention at the reception was horrible. Also, the maid would wake up at 8 o'clock by knocking on the door and wanting to come in.

No Washcloths.
No heat. (It's november!)
Mold in the shower.
Elevators kept refusing to open. (they're old)
No welcoming vibe.
No way this was worth $700 for two nights. Not at all.
Absolutely ridiculous.
I booked two nights and was told after the first night that I have to check out. They soon realized it was a mistake and I was indeed booked for 2 nights after banging on the door continuously to tell me I had to check out.
Just do not book it.

Staff is rude and almost seems like they hate their job! The location is good but for the price you can reserve the Ritz across the street! The front desk staff is RUDE & the music from the club won't let you sleep! Avoid at all cost!

They can’t figure out central heating. You will be woken up daily at 5am to your room being 90+ degrees. There is nothing you can do about it. The ac will stop working when the engineer turns up the steam. If you complain the front desk will say “actually other guests have also called about the heat” like that is somehow supposed to make it better? Avoid unless you like sleeping in a sauna.

Must agree with the other 1 star reviews. Went through four rooms before settling on room number 5 within the first 90 minutes of check in.

If you are looking for basic amenities like wash cloth, hand towels, WiFi, working thermostat, and lights that work, you won’t find it here.

Front desk actually told me that I will not be happy with any of the rooms in the hotel if I want these things.

The maid staff is very friendly and attentive but can’t get hand towels because there aren’t any.

I suppose being near Times Square means there will be noise at night but if you’re looking to get sleep here, lower your expectations on that as well.

Really, look elsewhere.

Had two terrible nights’ sleep at the Gallivant. Despite turning off the thermostat, the heat would not stop coming out of the radiator making the room incredibly hot. The window was broken so I propped it open with a tissue box. Front desk didn’t open my calls but were able to resolve the problem the next day. By the evening the heating was inexplicably back on, but front desk told me maintenance had gone home and no other rooms were available. No Do Not Disturb signs were provided and so I was awakened by loud knocking from the cleaning staff at 8am.

Only plus is that it’s in a good location, close to wherever you would want to go in Times Square. But I was traumatized by my most recent stay. HVAC was broken so it was super hot in the room. Opened the window for awhile but that let all the New York smells in lol. There was hair (not mine) on the toilet seat, as well as 2 roaches that I saw on the bathroom floor. Worst part was that my room happened to have a club or something right outside, so my bed was literally shaking from the music until 3am. I also had an issue where I was charged incorrectly. The guy in the front was extremely rude and dismissive. Will never stay here again.

The room was simple and nice, but the bed was too soft.
It's close to Times Square, so it's convenient, but it's so noisy that I can't sleep until midnight.
He kindly taught me things I didn't understand, which was helpful.

Avoid this hotel at all costs! There were drain flies in our bathroom and we found cockroaches! When we went to the front desk they did nothing about it. We cancelled and went to another hotel! Location is great but everything is run down, and the rooms are never cleaned. Not worth the price we paid for it

The only good thing about the location. The right cleaning. Rooms with disconnected plugs, destroyed furniture. The TV impossible to use. The elevators are very slow and are more than 50 years old.

A slum!

The room looked like some cosmetics improvment was done but when you look further it is filthy. There was dry suspicious residue on the bed head.
The worst is the noise. The windows are not sound proff at all and has no isolation. I could hear the conversation from the street and the smell of weed and cigarettes came into the room even with the windows closed. It is impossible to sleep especially with the bar/club undeneath.
The maid came into the room and the bathrrom while I was in the shower. The room was already clean so what was she doing there?

I stayed here for 2 nights w a friend this week and initially we were pleasantly surprised by the lobby and the look of the room.but then almost immediately we noticed that the heat was not working.we called the front desk 3 times within the first hour of our stay and they said they would have the engineer come take a look all 3 times.it quickly became obvious that no one was going to come.we had to head out for a reservation and otw out we talked to front desk in person and they gave us the same response as they did on the phone.we hoped when we came back the heat would be working but the only thing they could offer us was extra blankets.then finally we decided to call one more time later that day and that’s when they say that the heat doesn’t turn on until 11pm.lo and behold 11pm comes around and it never turns on.that first night we were shaking in bed from the low temperatures.the next day we continued to complain throughout the day to no avail.and on top of that housekeeping had taken away our extra blankets.come night time the manager told us that they had no extra blankets and of course the heat still hadn’t turned on.this is clearly completely unacceptable hotel management and was a huge detriment to my stay in new york during these 2 days were temperatures were 30-40 degrees.this was the most major disservice but on top of these there were many more inconveniences (eg.no extra large towels, no hand towels) that would lead me to advise against anyone staying at this hotel.

Decent for the price. Our air didn't work from check in til 10pm. Location is in the thick of things. It'll get the job done.

I stayed here 11/2/23 for 1 night and that was enough. The room was tiny even for just 2. It was filthy and damaged nothing was right from start to finish. And at check in they surprise you with a $75 deposit that not only was I shocked but a few others checking in as well. I am very angry and upset with the state of my room i deserve compensation it was appalling!

I stayed here for two nights and had a horrible experience. My room had one towel and no hand towels/washcloths-when I called Housekeeping the line was disconnected, and when I called the Front Desk they told me to come down and get it instead of bringing it to my room, and when I told them Housekeeping was disconnected, they said "Yes it is" and acted like that was a normal thing. When housekeeping finally came through my room the next day, they gave me 4 towels and no hand towels/washcloths.

I was on the second floor, and the restaurant on the first floor turns into a night club, which kept me awake with the pounding bass until 3am. I have rarely slept this badly in a hotel. Finally, they checked me out with no issue, and then inexplicably charged my card with an extra $34 fee, and when I called I got a bunch of voicemail boxes and no answers.

In short, the staff is terrible, the location would be nice except for the constant noise, everything is rundown and dated, and I will never stay here again.
