Hospitality
Hospitality at its finest.
Hospitality with all its powerful promises of happiness.
Hospitality and kindness the Algerian way.
Hospitality and kindness the Southern Mediterranean way.
Hospitality like hardly seen in NYC. If you have not yet visited The Kasbah Café you are missing out on something phenomenal.
Clearly the owners Amina and Halim are doing something right which you have yet to see in this city: their styles, personalities, warmth and love for life and people are all about hospitality.
A quality Algerians are known for and which you will find here in an exceptional way because Algerian hospitality is unique, warm, attentive and generous.
Algerian hospitality is one where your hosts are happy to make you happy.
Algerian hospitality is one where your hosts would give you the world and at The Kasbah Café for me THAT came with a refreshing mint tea, a memorable merguez sandwich, a chicken and mustroom quiche and interesting deserts.
The baguette is started, raised and baked on the premises: its taste was outstanding and perhaps the best bread I ever had in NYC.
The custom-made artisanal merguez were moist, juicy, tasty, bursting with flavors and cooked to perfection. As I am writing this review, I still recall the addictive house-secret sauce the sandwich was made of.
The chicken and mushroom quiche was doughless with a crispy top and resembled a salty tatin loaded with a mix of creative textures.
The Kasbah Café is family owned and upon entering you will instinctively feel in a typical Mediterranean home: kids playing, families enjoying an early dinner, guys gathered to share an Algerian traditional late afternoon round of coffees with pastries and fresh water. The vibe clearly reminded me of my native Algeria and its friendly and sensual lifestyle.
The menu is simple and focused on quality, freshness and fare deals. Do not visit The Kasbah Café, run to it, support it and become a fan of it because this place is truly a hidden gem, we owe to preserve on the NYC food landscape.

A mom and pop cafe with personality! The most delectable pastries I’ve had in a long long while! Transported me back to the alleys and souks of my childhood

I'm always on the lookout for a cafe near work; don't know how I missed this one. Lady behind the counter was super nice. Will go and have a meal there soon, for now I know the coffee was good.

Very charming coffee shop! I’d definitely recommend if you’re looking for tasteful treats and coffee/Algerian mint tea. The staff is very welcoming as well. This is my new fav spot in Sunnyside!

It's, okay. Very overrated.

The bad:
The espresso was slightly burnt, the breakfast was limited and not that flavorful, the pastries were too dry and too sweet. They do not have Turkish or Arabic coffee, even thought it's implied

The good: the staff was nice, the bread was fresh, pleasant ambiance

Kasbah serves Algerian pastries, sandwiches, and appetizers, and it is such a standout! I had to wait 10-15 min for the food to be prepared, but I didn’t mind it because I got to see the chef in action (EVERYTHING is made to order and cooked fresh right in front of you- they do not just rely on days-old hummus and baba here). And the results surely deliver —The Merguez was the sandwich of my dreams: The baguette was toasted perfectly… airy, hot and soft inside, crisp on the outside. Dressed in tahini and onion, the lamb-based sausage was unbelievably plump — nearly bursting with its juices spiked with cumin, garlic, and fennel? … The potatoes, tahini, and sweet juices of onion within the sandwich provided a nice contrast to the meats.

The Kasbah Cafe was a great place, as it was very accommodating and welcoming. The owners were very sweet people and made my friends feel comfortable! The food was amazing! Especially the breads as it was homemade. The decor was beautiful and authentic. I love this place and will definitely come back again. I highly recommend and will recommend to more people.
