The Musket Room reviews
21Had an amazing dinner with wine pairing at this restaurant! The vegan tasting menu surprised me and it's now one of my favorites. However, I wouldn't recommend reserving the garden area as I was eaten by mosquitoes. Overall, a fantastic experience!
I can’t state this vehemently enough… Dining at The Musket Room was an absolutely phenomenal experience. I have been lucky enough to dine around the world and have had a few Michelin star experiences. This one was tops. This meal will be remembered fondly for the entirety of my life. My friend and I both enjoyed the Omnivore tasting menu and the wine pairing. The worry with a tasting menu is that you will be full before you finish, hungry when you leave, or that each dish couldn’t possibly be delicious. This tasting menu blew all of the preconceived notions of what a tasting menu should be out of the water. Each dish was a flavor sensation. It was the perfect amount of food for a full experience. And the wine pairing was absolutely outrageous — I was wildly impressed with each combination. The wines were so delicious that my friend and I asked for pictures of a few of the bottle labels to look for when we return home.
Finally, our server Bobby made the entire experience memorable. He was attentive, friendly, casual, caring, funny, welcoming, informative. Bobby made us feel like we were his only table for the night, like we were in his living room, like we could be friends for life. I would visit 1000 more times to sit and chat with Bobby. We had friends show up at the tail end of our meal and he invited them to sit next to us, treated them to a glass of dessert wine, and gave them the cookie box that complemented our meal. I can’t imagine ever having better service than what we received from Bobby.
I will be recommending The Musket Room to everyone I know, forever. I hope it is open for decades to come, I will be returning every time I am in NYC. I would give 6 out of 5 stars if I could, rate it an 11 out of 10. Fantastic.
Knowledge of ingredients and taste, daring spirit, understatement and *excellent* wine pairing make this one of the best and if possible underrated restaurants in NYC. I do think one star has a higher meaning in Europe but also know this is a value experience.
The attention to detail, the knowledge of the servers, the presentation of the food all point to the love that this restaurant and the people who work here have for food.
Making sure that the wine pairings were on point to go with each course, describing the care that the chef put into the food combinations and making sure that we felt like we were being cared for all added up for a wonderful evening celebrating a friend's birthday!
It was my first time in a starred restaurant and it was indeed the best food of my life. I had the vegan tasting menu and everything was such and explosion of surprising taste. Highly recommend. Service was also great, so was the mocktail I ordered. The whole dinner lasted 2 full hours. Make sure you go there on an empty stomach.
The tasting menu is lovely. Well balanced, fairly priced and a good amount of food. All the dishes seemed very thoughtful and were well presented. This place is upscale but still has an approachable feel which I find really nice! I’d recommend this place to try!
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had this year. From beginning to end, so many memorable and delicious dishes. The caviar supplement may have been my favorite course. Dessert and the soup were also incredible. Wish I could afford to eat here more
The omnivore tasting menu is fantastic. The service is great, but the vibe is just modernized for this class.
While the food was good - we had both menus - I am giving it 3 stars for the following reasons: 1. The person pouring our water picked it up from the top of the bottle (first time ever seeing this & so we all hoped he had very clean hands). I wanted to say something but since we still had a lot of food to come
to our table, I decided to not poke the bear. 2. We had six people in our party and each menu states that the meal comes with a sourdough boule. When they brought our bread to the table, they only brought 3, not 6 as I expected to go with each of the menu & remember each person is at $125! During our dinner we asked for our additional 3 boules. The bread went well with the dishes and we all enjoyed it, but when we got the bill they had charged $18 for the additional loaves ($6x3=$18)! So wondering, does this mean each meal comes with 1/2 a loaf then? If yes, they should state this on the menu!
I tried numerous times to call them to inquire about this but the number goes to voicemail & the message states that it’s not possible to leave one! They also automatically required a 20% gratuity so we were “ stuck” tipping at this rate regardless of the service.
Some reviews I read stated how small the portions are - they are but we were okay since we had our 6 loaves of bread to supplement them. We did not do the wine pairing - we ordered cocktails which were good. If I ever want to do another tasting I will skip this place since I don’t like staff that are not conscious of how they handle your food and also surprise bills are not okay.
A very good restaurant. The menu was sensational, the drinks fantastic and the service always very polite and courteous. We had a great evening. Again any time.
Incredible food and wine, we had the tasting omnivore menu and wine pairing. The caviar and uni were stand outs, also the red saki.didn't get to taste the jamon as the waiter forgot it but apart from that the service was excellent, the happy birthday desert was a lovely touch, will be coming back. Not cheap but very much worth it
Best dining experience in NY because the food itself! So good! I don’t eat much but I finished every single dish of the set menu and order extra dessert! Will come back again
This restaurant has been on my list all year so my expectations were high but the meal never quite lived up to the hype. My boyfriend and I went there on a Friday night and the place was strangely empty (I guess that’s august in the city for you). We both ordered the omnivore tasting menu with wine pairing which came out to around $250 a person without tip. The start of the meal is probably the most disappointing with the king caviar being extremely salty and the lamb tartare on the opposite end completely lacking seasoning and flavor. The highlights were the bread, harissa octopus, corn soup and ham add on we did. Wine pairings were interesting and with the exception of the champagne at the beginning, probably the most exciting and fun thing about the evening. In the end the food was good, but for the price, portion size, and level of buzz, it wasn’t enough for me to give it a rave or even recommend it to friends. I’m glad I can check it off my list but I will not return.
Went here on a whim last Saturday evening, and it was not at all what I expected (though not necessary in a bad way). With a name like “The Musket Room”, I was expecting wood paneling, some dead animal heads, and maybe a musket on the wall. It fact, the atmosphere was modern, trendy, and fairly unassuming. My impression is that the restaurant wanted the food, not the decor, to make the impression. I had the omnivore tasting menu with the wine pairing. With the first toe courses (caviar and lamb tartar, along with a champagne wine pairing) I was worried that I committed to a fairly expensive outing for only “okay” food. Fortunately, things improved markedly from there. The octopus and pork dishes were fantastic, and the wine pairings got more interesting as the evening progressed. The Jamon and mussel supplement was worth the add-on (though I’d suggest splitting it, just so you can try it). Overall, I thought it was an interesting culinary experience and I’m glad I did it, but I probably won’t go back at that price point.
First, kudos to the chef. Everything was delicious, original and clearly well thought out. It is a lovely spot with brick walls and wood interiors. Atmosphere was lovely. Service was top notch, as you would expect. They have a vegan & omnivore tasting menu. Gazpacho and the mango&coconut dessert were the most memorable dishes I’ve had in a while. My only complaint is about portion sizes and price - the vegan and omnivore menus were priced the same, although the vegan portions felt quite small for this price.
The food was great but the service was not. I ordered a cocktail pairing at the beginning of 7 course meal and the last cocktail wasn’t brought to me until after we paid the check.
Great ambiance and amazing tasting menu.
Update: Got food poisoning the next day. Careful of the lamb tartare and medium rare cooked iberico pork on the tasting menu if you have a weak stomach.
Tasting menu was lovely and well-priced. The interior was fairly relaxed for an upscale restaurant, which gave it a warm, homey vibe, and the tasting menu flavors echoed the environment.
There was quite some variety across all the dishes, and some sort of odd tastes, but the bread with anchovy butter was fantastic, and the real star of the show was the fruity and tropical tuna. We enjoyed the tuna so much that we separately ordered a few more plates to share, since the flavors were so bright and the texture was immaculate. The starter with caviar was also delightful.
Overall, the portions are small, even for a tasting menu, so I wouldn’t expect to be super full but it was a fun trip and I’d recommend visiting at least once.
Went here for an indulgent anniversary dinner. Did not disappoint! In fact we left deciding this needs to become an annual tradition. We got the vegan tasting menu with the added reserve wine pairing, which were both phenomenal. The flavors were so complex and some dishes introduced me to spices and ingredients I had never eaten. The staff were delightful and so informative. Absolute wonderful experience.
Fantastic. Great tasting menu. Sweetbreads were the best I’ve ever had. Service was enthusiastic and impeccable. Wine list was fascinating. Only ding is that the portions are small. The later courses like lamb were surprisingly sparse.
