The Parish reviews
17Well didn't we fall lucky? We were heading to a different place for lunch but it was closed. Lucky for us that, (and a delicious aroma,) led us to this "one of a kind find! " When the locals offer you a mouthful of their delicious choices, no televisions, just views from the bar like no other, fantastic service topped off with the best meal out we in a long time, you know we'll be back for sure. Hope to see you there, and don't worry, we will pay it forward! Yummmmmmm.
The dining experience at The Parish in New Paltz was nothing short of a culinary delight. The journey began with a trio of appetizers that set the stage for an unforgettable meal. The Chicken Wings were bursting with flavor, the Gator Bites were superbly executed, and the Fried Okra was a delightful crispy treat.
Moving on to the mains, both the Gumbo and Jambalaya struck the perfect balance of spice, delivering an authentic taste of the South. The well-crafted dishes showcased a mastery of flavors that left our taste buds thoroughly satisfied.
Our server, Paulina, played a crucial role in enhancing our overall experience. Her attentiveness and courteous service added a personal touch to the evening, making us feel well taken care of throughout our meal.
The Parish's commitment to quality ingredients and skilled preparation was evident in every dish, creating a dining experience that exceeded our expectations. The ambiance, a mix of southern charm and welcoming warmth, provided the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening.
In conclusion, The Parish at New Paltz is a culinary gem that deserves high praise. From the flavorful starters to the perfectly spiced main courses, every aspect of our dining experience was top-notch. I wholeheartedly recommend The Parish to anyone seeking a taste of the South in a welcoming and delightful setting. We left with satisfied palates and a strong desire to return for more.
I went here once and had such a delicioius steak that I decided to come back the following week, two days after Thanksgiving. Last time we had this not so great table that's basically in the middle of the aisle - it's a pretty small space and a two top in the only walkway from front to back just kind of sucks. In retrospect I wish we sat at the bar the first time. This time however, the place was EMPTY. All the tables were open, it was about 530PM. The hostess asked us if we had a reservation. We did not. We were offered said sad table which was also empty in the middle of the empty small space. We declined, could we have one of the open tables? We were informed we could not because in one hour someone might come in for their reservation.
We told the hostess we simply didnt care for that middle table last time, but she simply could not help us. So we went to Stone Ridge Tavern instead and let me say they have a great pot roast.
Such a cozy restaurant/bar, the food was excellent and the staff were great.
Support this place it's a gem!
Have dined on many occasions (alone, as a couple, with larger parties including a toddler) and this experience is always solid. Food is excellent and staff is friendly. Delish cocktails. Go-to recommendation in NP. And if you’re there late you just might stumble upon a dance party. Good vibes.
Good food, good service & good atmosphere! Had the gumbo with chicken, andouille sausage and crawfish - excellent! It looked and smelled so good that I forgot to take a picture before jumping in.
Came here for lunch after hiking in Mohonk - the overall town is cute and has lots going on, and this restaurant is perched above them giving you a good view. Food is okay but not memorable, especially since a lot of the food lacks seasoning including the jambalaya. Service is friendly but do note that outdoor seating is vulnerable to weather and their shelter is limited.
The blackened catfish was excellent. However, our other dishes (gator bites and gumbo) were ok. I would go back for a second try.
The place is small and loud. It's not a good location for an intimate meal. But, it seems to be a fun place for some good drinks (draft beer selection was very good and cocktail menu looked good) and decent food.
The food was amazing. We had the crab cake, mushroom etoufee, and apple crisp. All were delicious. The service was kind and timely. It did get a bit loud towards the evening, but that's expected.
I very rarely write reviews on Google, but it is a must for this restaurant! My boyfriend and I went and sat at the bar for dinner on Saturday, 11/4 around 7: 30PM. First and foremost, the bartender was SO kind, inviting, and I think really made our experience here amazing. I don't think I've ever come across someone with the kind of energy he had, he really took customer service to the next level.
As for the food, WOW! If I could have the gumbo every day, I would (lol), and the steak of the day was cooked to perfection along with the string beans and crispy potatoes. 10/10.
When we are back in New Paltz, this is going to be a place we come back to, and if you're looking for somewhere to eat, come here!
Thank you!
Had a meal at the bar, and even on a Saturday night, there was still no delay in service.
Really engaging and fun staff, and a good selection of options for food. Had their jambalaya and it was delicious! Great drink selections as well (beer, wine, cocktails, etc.)
Small place, but the atmosphere makes it really cozy and relaxing.
Good recommendation for some casual Cajun food. If it's nice outside, I also recommend sitting on their outside patio.
Disappointed. Went for Sunday brunch. Thought they opened at 10, but not until 12. Look forward to visiting another time.
Good place! The atmosphere and drinks are top notch. The food is good but not great.
Fried GF okra is delightful and delicious. I got the mushroom etouffee and it was okay but nothing i would get again. Granted I am GF and don’t eat meat, so if you can and do eat both it has potential to be better. I’d go back to try other stuff, so worth giving it a go.
Food and drinks were amazing! Frank the bartender was awesome! We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.
We visited here without reservations. The service staff was great, unfortunately it took forever to get our food, our fried chicken came out burned and my cheeseburger was served ice cold. When I complained to the manager about everything the manager asked if I had reservations. So I guess it’s acceptable to serve food slow, burned, and cold to people without reservations. The manager offered no apology. We will never visit here again. Very disappointing!
Went for dinner around 6: 30 on a Saturday night. Party of two.
The only thing this place has going for it is the location.
Waited for over an hour to get our food.
Had the gumbo and blackened fish.
Both were inedible. Would not recommend and will not return.
Hailee is an excellent server and made our experience wonderful. The food was fantastic and we loved the drinks.
