The Stone Valley Trail reviews
14I'm so happy we found this place! Amazing hiking with fantastic views. The water falls and rapids are some of the most turbulent I've ever seen. We'll definitely be back!
Great trail along the river. Lots of up and downs, but easy hike and good for dogs and kids. No fence along the river, though. Falls are beautiful and so is the forest.
Beautiful trail with gorgeous views! It is not an easy trail so make sure to wear proper shoes.
From the trailhead at Colton, it's a slight descent which follows the river. It's an easy walk for families, but wouldn't be good for a walker or stroller. There are spots that break off the trail to the river along the way. Watch for toots and toe trippers. Also watch for poison ivy, close to the parking area and where the trails break towards the river.
The right side of the river (when facing downstream) has more rocks to climb on and a more interesting trail. The left side is an easier walk
Gorgeous hike with swimming holes along the way also found some crayfish living their best life
We came here on a whim. The hike to the river is short and easy enough for young children. The river is very pretty but the fauna were the stars of the show. There were cedar waxwings absolutely everywhere! There must have been well over 30 flying about over the water, presumably eating up insects. The other sight were the fishing spiders. Thousands of spiderlings had just hatched on the rocks and were quite the sight. Might not appeal to everyone but they're easy to avoid and completely harmless.
Absolutely gorgeous! I will definitely be going again. The trails aren't too difficult and the history notes along the way make this trail extra enjoyable, giving you a nice break to read them before continuing.
There was snow on the trails when I went. Too dangerous to go far but a beautiful dam at the start of the trail made the trip worth it
This is a trail of moderate difficulty running on both sides of the Raquette River. It is very scenic. The trail is marked pretty well. There are no bathroom facilities available, unless you count hundreds of acres of forest. In the winter, skiers and snow shoers use the trail. The Raquette River Pub is located near the upper trailhead in case you're in need of refreshment after your strenuous hike.
Always fun hiking Stone Valley. Each side of the trail is 3.2 miles and CAN be done as one big loop, or you can stay on the one side and enjoy the views. From Colton's entry, the up-close views start at less than half a mile in.
Traveled through Colton on the way from Tupper Lake to Alexandria Bay. Great stop to stretch your legs. We walked the trail on the east side north of the damn. The trail head behind the firehouse was not marked and a little tricky to find. Nice views of the river.
Always a good hike especially when a release of water is done and the kayakers are taking advantage of it.
Amazing scenery! The whitewater is technical and fun. Super unique geology of the riverbed as well!
