Theatre for a New Audience at Polonsky Shakespeare Center reviews
11It's a very nice theatre. Des Moines was one of the worst plays I've ever seen. And I've seen thousands.
Modern space with comfortable seating, nice bar area, and friendly staff. But, the ladies room is Very confusing; an experienced user has to explain it to first-timers.
Great performance space, only a few blocks from a subway but for those with limited mobility, it's a taxi desert. $35 from Port Authority to get there and $47 for a Lyft to get back.
INTIMATE SETTING WITH EVERY SEAT IN THE HOUSE SURROUNDING THE STAGE IT'S ALMOST AS IF YOU ARE IN THE PERFORMANCE
Saw the play Wedding Band by Alice Childress. The theater set up was absolutely amazing. The stage is in the middle of the floor and all the seats surrounded it, basically making not one bad seat in the house. The cast was phenomenal. We definitely enjoyed ourselves.
I saw the Wedding Band there, which was phenomenal!
Beautiful, Intimate theatre. I can't wait for more play opportunities there. The layout, is kinda like the Circle Theatre in the city, but added enhancement, the black walls and black seating. Great idea!
The Polonsky Shakespeare Center is an amazing jewel in Brooklyn. I think it's the best Off-Broadway house in NYC. It is in a brand new building hiding an intimate theatre in which the audience is almost on the stage amid the actors. I was blessed to see "Wedding Band, " a standout revival of Alice Childress' MasterClass in race relations. What's sad is that this was written over fifty years ago about a time one hundred years ago and it still rings current, down to the influenza. I don't know if Ms. Childress is a seer or merely a master story teller. If you have a chance go to Brooklyn and see, in person, this amazing production.
Just saw a powerful, funny, and engaging performance of The Merchant if Venice. So much talent on one stage. Thank you!
Not a single bad seat. Beautiful space and great location. Not many food options inside or around so have a late lunch or an early dinner before watching your play here
It gives equity theater e very time at a great price. They are not afraid to take risks too.
My first time at Polonsky and I am highly impressed. The stage for Timon of Athens was one long thrust, and with seats lined up on three sides the actors took numerous opportunities to involve the audience, from eye-contact in soliloquy to "Here, eat this worm. " The production was fantastic, notably Kathryn Hunter as *Lady* Timon and Arnie Burton as Apemantus.
