Restaurant Tiga reviews
16 TLDR: Quaint little neighborhood sushi restaurant. Small place so make a reservation. Spicy Dumpling Soup, Toro/Ikura Roll, Grand Wazoo and JUNGLE LOVE.
I'm not sure how we ended up here but we came in for a Friday night. A few locals recommended it but I was pretty skeptical to be honest. The menu just read like something I don't care for but figured let's try it out.
It's small but dark and cool for a local date around town. We tried the cocktails, both had yuzu and they were pretty solid. The Spicy Dumpling Soup was very flavorful, kind of reminded me of instant noodle soup base with dumplings but not in a bad way - it was tasty.
Truffle fries and yogurt were solid. Spicy tuna crispy rice was standard.
Toro/ikura roll. The ingredients do the heavy lifting but this was great. Fatty, nice pops of salty brinyness from the roe, not too much rice.
Grand Wazoo. Spicy scallop, torched squid? Very interesting and very delicious.
Jungle Love. I don't know what this was supposed to be. An obscure list of ingredients but this thing was TASTY. Shrimp, avocado, goat cheese, brussel sprouts, imitation crab, tuna. As strange as this sounds - this baby slapped. Most memorable bites of the night.
I went in doubtful and left knowing I'll be back. Cheers.
Highly recommend. I love the ambiance inside, the space is a bit small which gives them the time & attention necessary for every order. Each dish is a symphony of flavors that leave your tastebuds satisfied. Grateful to have a spot like this so close-by. The best quality sushi on Long Island, and some of the best I’ve had overall.
We lived in South East Asia for 27 years and traveled extensively to Japan. Not only is it our favorite Japanese restaurant on Long Island but Tiga never disappoints! Whether we go as a couple and sit at the bar, or with friends or family of 5. The food is always, fresh, innovative and totally umami. Edamame dumplings are always amazing as are any dumpling specials. Spicy tuna rolls, jalapeño yellowtail, scallop appetizer, toro and uni (when they have it) never disappoint! 11/10
This place is amazing! Stopped in the area for work and Jennifer was the best server! The sushi was nothing shy of amazing. Love this restaurant place!
My husband and I come to Tiga frequently and it is always A+. Absolutely everything we’ve ever gotten there is amazing. From the specials, to the apps and the rolls it never disappoints. The Dynamo Hum roll has become my favorite sushi roll of all time, anywhere. The staff is always so nice and welcoming. Reservations are def needed as it is a cozy, small place with great ambiance. My husband and I always look forward to coming here:)
Our waiter explained everything perfectly. From my perspective I think the rice has too much vinegar. Over all everything else was good.
I am a reoccurring dinner at tiga but now I will not be. They were so rude and not accommodating after I pushed 9 to cancel reservation which was over 24 hours before reservation but didn’t write “yes” to confirm. They now are charging me 160 dollars. Very disappointed.
I never write reviews but I felt this place deserved it. The Yellowtail Asian Pear was possibly the best thing I’ve ever tasted. I consider myself a foodie and would say that dish was absolutely incredible. I ordered 2 on Wednesday and went back on Friday and had 3 lol. It was an experience and the quality of the food was excellent.
I adore this place and it truly has a piece of my heart like the item on the menu! Service is amazing and beyond the sky! My server was a very skilled and friendly Japanese lady, who was so genuinely nice and outgoing! I will comeback for that alone…. Thank you
This is my second time at Tiga, after my first experience being lovely with some friends. This time my husband and I sat at the bar. We are frequent sushi eaters so when we noticed the sushi chefs placing platters of sushi on the side for servers to take to the tables we were confused. Why weren’t these going quickly and were sitting out for some time? Why weren’t the sushi chef’s handing the sushi to the bar patrons if they are already sitting there? But nonetheless I digress.
We then notice an order of our own, 7 nigiri pieces, two of which were soy marinated ikura. Now, anyone who eats sushi often knows how 1. It’s important to serve sushi as quickly as possible because freshness matters, 2. How soy sauce which is wet can easily make crispy seaweed soggy and 3. That nobody wants soggy seaweed.
So while my husband and I ate our other dishes we noticed the platter sitting there. We finished two dishes before they finally brought the plate out. I mentioned to the waitress that I noticed the sushi sitting out for a while and for the chef to remake the ikura. I didn’t ask for the other 5 nigiri pieces to be remade as my biggest issue was knowing that the seaweed on the ikura would be soggy. She replied that she didn’t think it was sitting long and for me to eat the pieces and let her know. Well guess what? It was soggy. She came back and asked how it was and I reiterated the soggy seaweed. She expressed that the chef and owner says it was sitting there for a very short time and he just made it. Now…. Here’s the reason I’m writing this post - I’m not a liar, nor do I get a rise out of complaining for 2 $6 pieces of sushi. So this post is here just to say- you didn’t make it right by your customer- who spent over $200 on sushi. You could have made it right by remaking two pieces so I could enjoy the sushi the way it is meant to be.
Needless to say, I will not be returning.
Tiga has phenomenal specialty rolls. Most are unique and made specifically at Tiga. My personal favorite is the Piece of Heart. The mix of flavors, meat, and toppings are ordinary and out of this world. Order the truffle fries! Nice atmosphere and servers!
Best Sushi in Long Island! Super cool vibe and friendly service. The warm mushroom salad is so tasty and I love the different textures. The sushi was super fresh and they even have Toro which is my favorite. Will be going back soon.
We received a gift certificate here and made a reservation on a Friday night. We love sushi and sashimi and this place was disappointing. The sushi is very basic tuna and salmon and every roll was very sauce heavy. Although they are innovative on the combination of ingredients, we feel like they rely on the sauces. This is not the place if you actually enjoy your traditional sushi and sashimi. It's very small and expensive and the whole thing feels forced and pretentious. If you like authentic no frill sushi you are better off next block over at Yamaguchi. We will continue to go there for authentic sushi and service.
Very delicious apps and sushi. The atmosphere is kind of dim and moody, which makes for a cool vibe. Will definitely be returning to try the rest of the menu!
By far the Best sushi on Long Island
Blows Kotobuki and Arata away by a mile
Comes close second to Yasuda sushi in Manhattan which is Top One in NY
Extreme attention to detail with Rice which is 90% of success and Incredibly fresh fish create a 10 out if 10 food experience
Ashley our server was superb
Highly recommend to all seeking a one of a kind experience
Well Done Tiga!
Excellent quality sushi and hot food. The owners work behind the sushi bar which is a nice touch! Will definitely be back.
