Toga Bike Shop, New York NY

I live relatively far from this shop, but it's NO QUESTION worth the commute. They rock! I bought my bike from them six months ago and came in several times for repairs and tune-ups. ALL the folks there are super knowledgeable, congenial, and simply worth their weight in gold. They'll get you right with whatever you need, whether you're looking for a new bike, need maintenance, or you're in the market for some new accessories and gear.

This is my new trusted bike shop in NYC, even though this shop is farther than a bike shop one block away from my apt.

Hobie and Simon were great, knowledgeable, and friendly. Had to replace my wheels after I bent my front rim and it could not be trued straight.or so I was told by another bike shop that then tried to upsell me, then dismissed me once I wasn't interested. But, that's not how I was treated at Toga Bike Shop. Simon immediately asked me if I needed help. He and Hobie looked at my bent front rim and told me I did not need a new wheel or wheelset; they could true it. Best mechanics in there! Sure enough, it was true and straight, both wheels - and I gave them a pretty warped wheel.

Personally, I'm always cautious when dealing with mechanics as it's easy for them to overcharge and leave you feeling swindled. But, Toga Bike Shop gained my trust and got the job done well.

Because of Hobie's honesty and integrity, and the expertise of the mechanic I didn't see in the back room, I am back on the road again, without breaking the bank!

I'm coming back to Toga Bike Shop for all of my biking questions and needs from now on. Thanks very much!

Toga provides amazing service. Manager Will does an outstanding job providing advice, getting me whatever I need, and servicing my bike when I break components or just want to upgrade. The computerized bike fitting he did for me made a huge difference in my ride.

I bought a bike here for the 'offered free service', returned when my bike needed a little tune up - free service doesn't actually cover anything useful. Just a line to be said.

I couldn’t agree more with these quotes from prior reviews. I was a loyal customer of Toga over 30 years. I purchased two high-end bicycles from them and regularly used them for annual maintenance and repairs. They were my friendly neighborhood bike store. No more! I recently brought my bicycle in for routine maintenance and did not receive a call to pick it up. Then, out of the blue, I received a text asking me to pick up the bike and telling me I was responsible for $150 charge for storage. There is no mention of storage fees on their receipts or in their store. When I pointed this out to the manager, he was (you guessed it) RUDE, CONDESCENDING AND DISMISSIVE and proceeded to swipe my card for the fees. To echo the above reviews, THIS IS NO WAY TO TREAT CUSTOMERS. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere — unless, of course, you enjoy being mistreated and abused.

Awesome staff and they know their stuff. If you have a cervelo bike or any bike for that matter just trust what they tell you and buy it. This bike shop has a former racer there and that makes a huge difference if you want great advice if just starting out whether you are a master in their 40s/50s/60s They do a great bike fitting as well. They also can do tubular tires replacement really well and sell clinchers also. They stock some high end bikes. I don’t understand most of the negative reviews on here as these guys are all about the customer and friendly. If you look Most of the bad reviews seem to be people who bad review other places also so just are unhappy people. Not naming any names here but They must be the guys that don’t ride in the early morning but ride at 7 pm on a weeknight thinking it is a race in Central Park and almost hit people then yell at them to make themselves feel better because their life is miserable. These are also probably the guys who run into your back tire in a cat 5 race if they even race. Toga rocks and sells great bikes and kits also like assos and Castelli and that is awesome. Love this place. Go in happy and trust what they say and you will leave happy with Great bike gear or maintenance. Awesome place 5 stars all around

Great friendly young staff.terrible management.terrible prices.go to chinatown fast reliable fraction of cost.or go to fidi they have a bike shop van best in the city by far.this place taxes you at high premium and the quality of work and products always fails.given plenty business.never again

I seldom rate things but this is just the worst place and it is necessary to warn others. Avoid this shop! No warranty policy, no return policy, not customer centric and not particularly knowledgeable. If you have a problem after purchase you are in trouble.

I recently bought my 7 year old daughter a bike here. Good selection and she loves her bike. Staff are super friendly and helpful. I also ended up getting a bike as well. Love it and love the service and gregariousness of the staff. Lifetime free maintenance is awesome. Couple snafus with some of the accoutrements but they were totally cool about rectifying. Would highly recommend this place.

I was referred here by a friend. Brought my damaged bike in to inquire about repairs/ replacing the frame. I was told it wouldn’t be worth it to replace the frame and would be more cost effective to purchase a new bike. Fine- I had assumed so and was ok with that option. They only had one bike that was comparable in price to my current bike, but it was a completely different brand. Before I had any time to do research or ask questions, the employee was rushing to complete my order. I said that I wanted to try out the bike first before committing to it and was told that I could not do that because they would be rebuilding the bike for me using some of my components. I explained that I really was not comfortable not being able to take the bike around the block before purchasing it, and the employee grew very irritated with me. He told me it was “basically the same thing” as my bike and I should just buy it. I explained that I tried a variety of similar bikes before deciding on my current bike and he seemed very exasperated that I didn’t just jump on it immediately. He told me if I walk out without purchasing it someone else is going to grab it, and I said I’ll take my chances and left. I won’t ever return to Toga nor would I ever recommend the shop to anyone.

Extremely friendly and knowledgeable, but service is expensive if the bike was not bought there. $200 for deluxe tune up, and still the rear derailleur was not well tuned after 3 trips, had to bring it somewhere else. Everything else in the service was good (and better than other shops in the area).

I stopped by to get some air before a ride and the valve in my inner tube went mid-fill. Asked Lewis for help who expertly changed it out (I didn’t even know that was possible) and sent me on my way free of charge. Real quality gesture.

Great location. Parking lot right next door. I was looking for a bike rental that would have something for my 3 yr old son, and they had the perfect bike trailer. Overall, very easy process. They hold onto your ID and you pay once you return the bike. I paid $22 for 2hours and got a 7speed cruiser with the child trailer!

Worst bike shop I ever been. Had problems before and I insisted to use the terrible service and of course got disappointed again.
Wil the manager does not have any respect for people /clients always giving an horrible service

Bought a bike online to pick up in store. The bike was available as in stock on the site when I bought it. Next day, they called to say that the bike is not in stock and wanted to up-sell me to the next higher model. I get bike inventory is tight but manage your site inventory better.

Beware! My husband went have a flat tire fixed on his e-bike and was given the wrong inner tube! Because of it his tire was flat again in 2 days! Has to have it service again somewhere else. Didn’t even have the decency to offer a refund on shotty work they provided only a store credit? ! Who would go back. Was a 1st and last experience with them. Find somewhere else to go.

Had a great experience two times with Toga Bike Shop. They've been able to fill a flat tire on my scooter both times. They're always friendly and able to take care of the job quickly.

Toga's repair service is overpriced, underperforming, and extremely frustrating. 3 months ago, I had the shifter on my bike replaced and a general tune up. Toga charged me an outrageous $240 for this work. When I returned earlier today with a problem with the new shifter, they claimed my gear shifting issue was something different and bilked me for another $20. To add insult to injury, every trip to Toga takes 1-2 hours. They want you to wait while they work. Then you need to repeatedly test the bike because their semi-competent mechanic cannot seem to do the job right. I will never return.

Terrible experience with the manager. Ordered online - they don't actually have the bike. No apology. Had to call several times and was treated like, "too bad buddy. " LAME

Terrible experience. Took my Canyon in for a premium tune up. Nothing I asked for was done. Needed to take to get drive chain relubed after first ride. Didn’t fix carbon creak. Front wheel came out of alignment second ride, the bolts were loose enough to back out by hand. Went back to store complain, they offered nothing but an apology. Waste of $200
