Udall's Cove Park Preserve reviews
8Brought back a lot of memories. I grew up not far away, my first time back in 40 years. "The Cove" was a stomping ground for me and my friends long before there were marked trails, signage etc. We used to get there by walking the LIRR train tracks and sliding down a steep embankment. Udall's is a nice place to take a walk. Quiet. Peaceful. Beautiful views of Little Neck Bay and beyond. A welcome respite from the rest of the urban cesspool that is NYC.
So, first the good: yes, very nature-y. Good views of a very quiet tiny pond, we saw bullfrogs right out in the open. Bad news: many, many mosquitoes, extremely muddy, trail is a tad overgrown with several unmarked forks and definitely some poison ivy. So not a great nature trail, but a functional one, especially if you're interested in marshes.
It was a good feeling to go there I liked it a lot but the directions were confusing, because the entrance was so tiny, and you could easily miss it. Besides that everything was good.
I grew up there.when it was two boat yards. Whitlos & Petersons… As kids we would hang out there on rainy days… In the summer we would crab, fish, boat… My parents were part of the movement to get it designated as a natural area the boat yards were dismantling… Recently I went back for a visit and it was beautiful peaceful well kept… it brought back a flood of wonderful memories… Highly recommend… ️
I love any place where I can find strange bits of nature, and animals like turtle and frogs, and trails are maintained. At the southern portion of the park, it is extremely narrow, and the trails cut through from one local street right to the next, so they're really short and quick. Some older trails appear to have been neglected/abandoned and are overgrown.
Further north, where my photos were taken at the pond, it's better. Next time I'll venture even further north, to where the Cove begins at the Bay.
I don't get it. I parked near Virginia's point. 75 feet in towards water, dead-end. Turned around, went out and then into another path, and 5 minutes later i was out the other side. I would not go there again. Maybe i went to a bad entry point? IDK.
Great walk! Sunny weather made nice pictures. Can’t wait to revisit in spring time. Beware of dog poop. My partner and I stepped on one on separate occasions.
