Revisited this gem of a restaurant for the first time in 50+ years. It is a great as I had remembered, which, in itself, is miraculous. Terrific food, friendly service, and warm, homey atmosphere. Oh, the prices are also very reasonable! It’s not fancy; it’s the real deal! This restaurant has my highest recommendation!

Stumbled upon this restaurant out of whim since I was walking through the EV and was looking for dinner. Little did I know that I would discover an off the beaten path location with some of the best borscht and varenyky I’ve had (and trust me, I’ve had a lot)! The varenyky I ordered had meat inside (a mixture of beef and chicken), but they do have other fillings as well and vegetarian items on their menu for those with dietary restrictions.

Service was also great and the atmosphere made me feel like I was at home. I will definitely be back and bring some of my Ukrainian or Russian friends if they have a chance to visit.

The food was great. Service was so so.

Our meal came to $84 for 3 people. Which isn't bad. Had to wait for the bill for 20 minutes. Went up to pay and the waitress from Belarus asked what i'd like to tip. From our country we tip 10% if the service was so so. She got upset, told me I need to pay 18%. She added another 8.95 to the bill (sales tax maybe?) and then the tip. She told me it cost $118 total and ran out through the machine. We were already late for our show and just quickly paid, not realizing our $84 meal just cist $118.

The food great, watch your bill if the blobde from belarus is serving you.

Wonderful neighborhood place with lots of history and charm. And great borscht and goulash, and the best potato pancakes in town.

20/10 This is the best Ukrainian good I've ever put in my mouth. Anyone who gave it a low review ignore them they don't know what they're talking about.

The most delicious Ukrainian food in NY! Tastes like home. I keep coming back and bringing friends there all the time ️

Soviet-like service experience, where customers have to take care of kids-spilled water by themselves.

The food is authentic, but not the best. Probably that’s why there were waiting line for the next-door Veselka, and no waiting for this one.

It took more than 20 minutes to get the check, and I had to go to their desk to pay to speed it up.

We came here about 1: 30 on a Sunday so there was maybe a 20 minute wait for a table for two, and that’s to be expected because it’s a popular family restaurant. It’s a no frills place with really tasty authentic Ukrainian food, so although the interior is nothing to write home about, you will enjoy the grub! We had potato pierogi and potato pancakes with sour cream. Server forgot the apple sauce and was overall not that attentive but in her favor, it was pretty busy. I would come here again but at a less busy time.

Food is just ok. The restaurant is really busy. Waitresses are not friendly. No smile at all. I didn’t like the Interior. Cheap and stereotypical. But the food isn’t expensive. So you get what you pay for.

Long time goer of this establishment. A staple of the community. Many thanks to them and the people who make up it a wonderful experience.

I love this place. There can be a line around the block at Veselka and there will be plenty of empty seats here. I hate to expose the secret. I always take out-of-towners here. There is actually a huge ballroom above this place. They have more perogi choices than anyone. The only drawback is that this place is in the middle of the building, so there are no windows.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan. The decorations are very unique and authentically Ukrainian. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. I’ve been there numerous times with college buddies and we all loved it.

We loved the holubtsi, vareniki, salat olivier, and cabbage soup. Overall, better food than Veselka and no wait!
