If I could give this place a 0 (zero) star review, I would definitely do it. My brother and I came on October 25th, around 9pm until 3: 20am. He was writhing through the floor. He had stomach pain and chest pain, threw up more than 15 times (not even kidding), having trouble breathing and but still screaming and crying for help but the staff repeated "there are people who have waited 11 hours, you haven't waited long". But, wasn't 6 hours long enough for a patient that is suffering? ! They didn't show professional ethics nor compassion. They were insensitive. Wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.

Fortunately, when we left and went to another hospital, Upstate on Broad Rd, he was seen in less than 5 minutes.

Failing to help me and others who are in pain. Watched 10 nurses stand in front of me talking about there personal life.

I would give Upstate's Emergency Department zero stars if I could, one star is too many. Waited over 7 hours in the waiting room with a broken foot and did not get seen, ended up going home and went somewhere else the next day. Extremely rude staff (not all of them but definitely most). Their triage system is broken. There's no reason a man with a qtip stuck in his ear that got there after me should have been seen before me. They pick and choose who they want to see first. Absolutely do not recommend this ER. Go to Crouse or St. Joe's!

Sitting in PAIN for Over 6 hours. Nothing but vitals taken. No hurry. People around us were here for over 10 hours are now just leaving. Without being seen. Worst hospital experience ever! Would rate it a zero! But no option for that! Go anywhere but here or come in via ambulance they say for immediate ER service.

ICU experience wasn’t the best especially when I was woken up straight out of surgery (mind you I haven’t slept more than 3 hours in the last 48 hrs) to be told I would eventually have to get up to physically move and I went back to sleep mind you it was barely 6am when they first woke me up and they purposely kept waking me up to remind me which I didn’t have to move till that afternoon. On top of that my change of shift nurse DELIA was very unprofessional was laughing at me as I was choking on my feeding tube, and would take 10 min to respond to the call button and I asked for new nurse all they did was move me to different floor out of icu thank good the nurses down here I nice caring and way more professional and thank you to my surgeon team y’all really saved my life, everything else here is fine.

I was just inpatient there 8/15-8/20. On 8/20 after i was discharged I went & read about 10 minutes worth of reviews on here before sharing my own assessment. I must say, if i paid any attention at all on where/ who to go to for medical care before i decided to go to Upstate, i certainty would be a fool. Ratings are subjective, theres zero objectivity or merit to any of these whining, complaining, ignorant internet users. I do not have facebook either. A wait time at an emergency department or disagreements between patients/providers happens literally everywhere. I 110% got the best possible care (with emergent surgery) at Upstate. I too, had a several hour wait to be seen. I too, was in a hallway on a cot for 12+ hours while getting diagnosed. I too, asked a question and felt one of rns was a snob. HERES THE BOTTOM LINE: the emergent care i didnt know i would need was communicated, handled and provided was as good any other facility could have provided. Keep the complaining for facebook, kids & idiots.

Transferred from an ER 2 hours away with an approved consult for a vascular surgeon. The uptown ER had me waiting for over 2 hrs to see an ER doctor before the contacted my approved vascular surgeon as I currently had an arterial bleed- trauma. This ER is a joke and just a large waiting room and excuses

I dont know but I felt I was discriminated because of my race? It was an exhausting day for me coming from a graveyard shift went straight to a clinic, referred to SUNY and waited for 11 hours when they should have told me that I can go home because my ekg is normal? I was worried because I had chest pain. They should have told me I can rest home than waiting for 11 hrs in the lobby (thinking about what's going on my condition)
How difficult would that be? Just tell me I'm okay and good to go than letting a patient wait. It took 2hrs for another hospital to checked me and reassured that I'm good. They are also very busy but they managed to take care of their patients. I waited 11 hrs and it was my choice. I let myself understand SUNY ED's situation had, BUT 11hrs of waiting is too much! I really just hope there's no discrimination happened that time. I'm sorry but I need to voice out my concern.

Visit 2:
People arrive and have no idea they’ll be there waiting for 9+ hours. It is torturous persevering the waiting room. Why can’t people be given an approximate wait time? At least they know what to expect or leave and come back in a few hours.

In addition, the security guards are laughing at an old man who is walking in at a slower pace than the automated door and the door is pushing him in. The nurse locks her door and doesn’t respond to someone’s knock, even though she is not seeing a patient. That place is the reason why this location is receiving single stars. There is absence of basic compassion (based on my observations during my 11h & 15 min stay in the waiting room).

Then, you are are taken to people who care about you and work diligently. The doctors and the nurses were outstanding! They showed the true empathy. 5+ stars for their work!

Visit 1: 5 stars
We were transported here from another hospital. We saw the nurse and the doctor shotly after arriving there. Both nurse and doctor were very nice. Our child did better here, because this place is child oriented. The medical staff have a better understanding about developmental needs of a child when treating him. In case of an emergency, we would take our child there from now on.

Where do you even begin with this garbage heap of a Healthcare facility? I say the best place to start is with the place itself! It is old, run down, and dirty. Next, if you have a true emergency, you will die in the waiting room or, at the very least, experience a worsening condition that would've been prevented had you been properly triaged. No questions about it. The wait times are among the worst in the city. There are routinely 6-10 hour waits despite this being the largest hospital in the city. I've even seen waits upwards of 24 hours here! The volume does not explain the insanely low turnover rate. Even if you do decide to spend half of a day in the horrible waiting room, you'll then have to contend with the homeless they allow to squat in there. Security ignores the behavior and actions of these individuals. Lastly, once you're in the ER, the doctors give you erroneous diagnosises without any testing or physical examination. This truly is the bottom of the barrel in terms of hospitals in the Syracuse area. Go to St. Joseph's, Crouse, or hell, even Upstate's own community campus. Avoid the downtown Upstate location at ALL COSTS.

This is the worst emergency room in Central NY! Beginning of August I rode an ambulance there with palpitations, blacking out/memory loss, dehydrated, etc. They had me wait in the waiting room from 4: 30pm-2: 30am the next morning when I walked out. They had me 10hrs nothing to eat/drink, no medications and getting more dehydrated and hungry. Nurse then said they'll call me around 12noon. That's a 20hr wait, so I left after 10hrs. Now today Oct 25th I had a 3pm appt at presidential plaza because I've been sick 3 weeks and they won't do a chest x-ray to see if it's bronchitis or pneumonia, etc. Today they called to tell me to skip my 3pm appt and hit the emergency room. I told them Oswego hospital urgent care can do the x-ray, they said they prefer I go to Upstate. So I was at upstate from 2: 15pm until 8: 30pm when I walked out because they wouldn't help me with my breathing problem [r palpitations. I'll be reporting this to my insurance as fraudulent charges from the hospital. I don't get seen even after waiting 6-10hrs, but I have to pay for parking and insurance gets billed for non-existent visits? Plus it is a patient privacy violation to have 2 hospital workers there making fun and laughing at a patient that had a accident on himself. I have a photographic memory. The patient was in a wheelchair, the nurse taking Temps wore a head scarf, drank a Orange cream BANG energy drink, etc. The other employee he wore a pink mask. Not cool degrading patients like that.

Literally the worst. I finally left after almost 10 hours. The tv was loud - people were loud.and so many people coughing and hacking with no masks on. The floors were dirty and just random tissues all over. - I literally begged to be seen and I was told I would be seen they just didn’t know when. The nurses aide was the best employee there.
