My sister walked in to get her shoes resoled. Before the guy even gave her the price he ripped off the existing soles. Then he said he would text her the price later, which was egregious!
When I picked it up, I was met by rude barbers who worked at the shop. Granted they were probably just doing the shoe repair person a favor by helping with pick ups. Maybe they don’t care about being nice since it’s not their business.
I asked the guy to explain to be why it’s that expensive when the original shoe was bought at a thrift shop. He mumbled around saying that the original sole was really expensive but that doesn’t mean the new sole is expensive. He also said the price is mostly due to labor, but that much? Finally he just got angry and said the price loudly and said pay up.
The two stars are for the work, which was done and seems to be done satisfactorily.
Maybe they took advantage of a younger shopper. Maybe their prices are just that high. Just be careful when you go.
Uriel’s is a wonderful neighborhood shoe repair shop and hair cutting establishment in Chelsea. Have been going there for many, many years. Not only is Uriel a master shoe specialist; he has also solved odd issues such as how to make a hat fit more snugly and how to repair a wallet. His work is done quickly, it is top-notch, and his prices are quite reasonable.

So grateful that I found Uriel. He is the nicest and unbelievably talented. I will be back for another pair of custom made shoes to fit my bad foot. This is way better than foot surgery; run don’t walk!
