Was told to call their office directly - it's been impossible to reach anyone! On hold for 25 minutes and the hold music stops and nothing.happens over and over.been trying for literally weeks to get through to someone. I've faxed, I've mailed papers - spent a fortune to do so and no response. Hire more staff - do something!

Honestly more streamlined than I anticipated. This was my first time visiting a social security office so wasn’t really sure what to expect. I appreciated the kiosk where you get your ticket number, sit down, and wait to be called. (The less people I have to talk to, the better.) I waited for about 30 minutes before going to my window where my clerk was very friendly. I had my SS info updated which took only a few minutes.

I just called the office and woman who picked up the phone didn’t even let me to finish talking, she was rude and drop the call. I’m resident of Ulster County.
I was trying to call back few times but no one answered and my calls are keep dropping.

They claim the office is open, but no one's there, update the web site. That office has been closed since March 2020. Then we're told it's are fault for not filing on time, dropped calls, no response to email or fax which they requested. I think the SSA can and should be doing a better job.

3rd time I've called in the past week. 17 minutes on hold and then told to call back at a better time and cut off. How are people supposed to make appointments since walk-ins unavailable?

By far the worst customer service on the phone. The women who answered did not give me her name, she was short with me and didn’t listen to anything I was saying, just basically that they won’t do anything the day of and it will be 2 weeks before I hear anything.regardless of the severity of my circumstance. Before I could get a word in she hung up on me. So appalled by the service.

The man who answers the phone here is extremely unprofessional and RUDE. Never in my 30 years have I been spoken to that way with regard to the status of my child. I need her SS card for heath insurance, as she was born over a year ago and they’ve yet to send it. He refuses to give his name and I have reported him SSA’s HR department. Find another office if you can because he is useless and will not help you. It’s been MONTHS.

CALL ANY OTHER SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE! I have never experienced the type of aggression and rudeness from another human being as I received from speaking with a representative of this office. When I calmly asked why I was being spoken to in such an aggressive and violent way, it only seemed to escalate her to become louder, screaming information at me that I had known nothing about prior to my phone call. After I was berated for only about 4 min of her time, she then hung up on me.

This is NOT the only time I've experienced this type of behavior contacting this office, nor with the same rep.

I'm writing this because I want to save any person from contacting this office and being made to feel like somehow calling a social security representative is doing THEM a disservice.

I beg of you, reach out to ANY other office other than Poughkeepsie. If you do not believe me, please read the rest of the recent reviews shown here.

I’ve been trying to change my name since July. I didn’t want to send my drivers license in the mail, and the representatives there were beyond useless when I asked if there was an alternative. I asked for a supervisor, and no one called me back. Finally I decided to bite the bullet and mail in my license, and I just called to verify that my information was received, and this woman rudely told me “you know we are shut down, you need to wait 60 days and if your documents are returned then you can call back. ”
I recommend using another office if you have to deal with social security. Don’t bother with Poughkeepsie, the reps are rude, they are not consistent in information providing. And they will not call you back if you ask.
This has been the hardest thing to get done. I just want to change my name.

Probably some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Due to Covid, everything has been changed to mail in business. I’ve been waiting 6 months for my new social security card trying to get my name changed, and have received absolutely nothing in the mail. When I called, they just told me to keep calling back. Eventually, they said they had lost my application or it was still sitting in the mail room, and I should send in another one with my marriage certificate a second time. Here I am waiting a second time, I call to check the status of the card, and I speak with one of the rudest men I have ever spoken to. He offers no help at all, tells me to call back in two weeks, and hangs up on me. I try calling back two weeks later and no one picks up the phone. Just left on hold forever. My friend used the Danbury office and had her new card back in 7 days. Well mine is going on 7 months and no one in this office seems competent enough to provide service to the public. I’m very disappointed and frustrated. Covid has changed things for sure, but somebody isn’t doing there job here. It’s plain to see.

Just had an agent hang up on me. I was being polite, but my problem I guess sounded to complex for her or she just did not want to be bothered with something that might require some effort on her part.

Absolutely useless and disorganized. If you ask them questions, all they say is "I don't know". I sent them a name change application and my documents and they lost my application. It's ridiculous that a government organization doesn't have their sht together.

I do not understand why social security is not opening up yet? ! You can not do a name change online so tell me how you can have everything open except for social security? !

I've been to the office several times and spoken on the telephone numerous times, and have not had any serious difficulties to speak of. But the rules, regulations, and changes can be frustrating. I have not encountered what I would call rudeness, but sometimes curtness. I have encountered very pleasant workers as well. My guess is when people don't have a complaint, they don't usually leave a complement. However, I do sympathize with the people whose experiences were less than stellar! My "good review" doesn't mean theirs were not true for them.
More recently I changed my retirement from my husband's to mine.and a mistake was made by the processing center they said, and my Medicare coverage disappeared. I'm in the process of getting it corrected, but so far (two months later) it's still not back yet. Going to call again soon.
