Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium, Centerport NY

Omg! This location is so very beautiful! I felt like I was in Europe. The history behind this museum is very good. It has a planetarium which I didn’t visit, but I was content with everything else. The mansion and the grounds were a sight to see. I recommend anyone to visit!
And I’d visit this place over and over and over again!

What an incredible day we had at my BFFs daughters wedding. As a child growing up here it was always part of a school field trip, or a day outing with my family. I was excited to bring my family and share this amazing mansion and especially for a wedding. My kids also remember my dad telling them about how he, his dad and brothers were part of the restoration of the cars in the garage. It was so nice to explore the grandure of history that still stands. The museums collection of artifacts and butterflies are just as I remembered. My family really enjoyed this. Much of America remove places like this and it is sad for our future generations. Thank you for keeping it alive!

The planetarium is a 10/10 experience. I used to go on school field trips and it was just as much fun as an adult. The rest of the museum is okay, basically just a lot of rich people eccentric collections. Please keep in mind that the grounds and the vanderbilt home are not very accessible if you have mobility issues.

This museum and planetarium is on the hilly area of Centerport, which is in the Suffolk country of Long Island. If your knees are aching, then this is not the place for you. Ground pass only costs $10, and the laser show in the planetarium costs extra. Laser Taylor Swift is a show where hits of Taylor Swift brought to life in a unique laser show. Mansion provides excellent photo opportunities, and the back of the mansion is even better for photo opps. I was amazed by the very detailed stone pathway all around the mansion and water management system. I will definitely go to Planetarium again.

This is a lovely place to visit but in addition to that, they have a great team of staff. I recently went there for a show at the planetarium and accidentally dropped my wallet without knowing. One of their employee, Rachel, found it and was kind enough to, along with other members of the staff, get in touch with me and returned everything as is. I’d say that level of honesty and integrity deserves to be praised and recognized. Really grateful to be able to get back what I thought was gone for good.

Went for Carraige House Play Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost at Vanderbilt last night. What a fun & entertaining show. Outdoors under the beautiful full moon.

It's absolutely a beautiful place but if your in a wheelchair it will be extremely difficult to move around the ground.

This place is a waste of your money and time. Only if you do a guided tour you can view the mansion the rest of the tickets are just to visit. The planetarium is ok however the mansion and museum are completely worthless. They have some remains that were purchased in the 1960s and displayed here. Then they have the marine museum which is a complete joke as it displays models of aquatic life.not worth visiting. The staff here is extremely rude and have an attitude as though they’re the Vanderbilts!

This was a great place for a family fun day. For our family of 7 (4children plus my mom) it cost $107 to do the planetarium and self guided tour of the Vanderbilt museum. This was perfect because we have some younger ones that were getting tired. I'd like to come back and do the guided tour which we were told is about 45 minutes long.

Good choice to spend a day with a beautiful view, exploring the mansion and interesting place around it.

It's a beautiful place and worth the trip. Especially the magnificent view. ***Important to know though that if you purchase tickets to the museum and grounds NOT including a "tour" it means you can not walk through the residential quarters of the mansion. So you're only paying to see the grounds and exhibit rooms featuring Vanderbilt's game trophies and expedition collections. You need to go on an actual tour to see the mansion residential rooms. I haven't been in many years so this was new to me. We were unfortunately NOT told this when we purchased tickets and were a bit disappointed. We were told by a docent that we could walk back to the planetarium to purchase tour tickets but it's a long walk back and forth and an additional $8 per person. So if you are interested in the Vanderbilt family and history of the actual mansion, it seems you'd need to do a tour.

The views are stunning. The mansion is on beautiful waterfront. There are sculptures on the lawn.

Always a great time. We've been members for years and love to explore. We find new things each time we are on the grounds. Lots of activities to attend as well, suitable for all ages!

Absolutely gorgeous place. I brought my boys here for a birthday party and i was in aww with beautiful art and landscape of this museum/planetarium.

It's an interesting place to visit. Really liked the experience of the planetarium. The gardens are very pretty, and the view over the water is beautiful.

Had a great time walking the grounds and visiting a car show. I didn’t have tickets for a show, but walked around the museum. I was not impressed by the museum part of the planetarium, but enjoyed walking the beautiful grounds and visiting the mansion.
