Vanessa's Dumpling House reviews
16Disappointed, my vegetarian dish had a piece of chicken and the food was terrible! Surprised at their 4-star rating, it’s not worth any stars.
Been going to the Vanessa’s on Eldridge street in Chinatown for over 20 years now. Was ecstatic to hear they were opening across the street from my home. Unfortunately the food is not the same. The fried dumplings are not nearly as crispy as the ones in Chinatown. Pretty sure this is because they using frozen dumplings. I tried the boiled dumplings as well. Not only do they not taste as good but it’s clear those not fresh either. The scallion pancakes are great and as good as they are in Chinatown but the fried and boiled pork dumplings are not. Sadly I will have to travel back to Chinatown if I want to get my Vanessa’s dumpling fix because this definitely isn’t it
Cabbage and pork dumplings are a must here. Do yourself a favor and get a sesame pancake while you're at it too.
The bubble tea is overly sweet with no option to adjust the sweetness, and the boba seemed a bit stale. But it was made very promptly.
My first visit to this restaurant (10/8/23). I have to say I was nicely surprised. I had a lunch special (teriyaki chicken w/rice), vegetable friend dumplings and cucumber salad. EVERYTHING was delicious. Service was great too.
We have been ordering from Vanessa’s Dumpling House from Chinatown for many years and were ecstatic to see that we opened up another location much closer to us here in Queens! We immediately ordered takeout to support them and we plan to dine there in person one of these days as well)
We compared the dumplings we usually get from the Chinatown location and the Fried Chicken and Basil dumplings tasted exactly the same: super juicy, fresh ingredients, and the sauce is still just as addicting and flavorful!
We are so glad that they opened a branch in Queens and we highly recommend trying them out! Best dumplings in NYC.
I had plain beef noodle soup today. I barely tasted anything, there’s no flavor in the soup and beef. I tried Chinatown store a few times, the quality and taste of FH is way worse.
Pork and cabbage dumplings were soggy, cold, and obviously not freshly cooked. Extremely disappointing since I chose to eat there for cooked to order fresh food. The saving grace was the vegetable dumplings were freshly cooked, crispy, and delicious. However, the cold, limp pork/cabbage dumplings spoiled the entire experience. I let the cashier know, but there was no offer to rectify the issue. I have eaten at the Eldridge location for years, and the dumplings are always crispy when you eat them there.
OMG! So good! Had the Pork and Noodle Soup with the hot oil added. So good! The sesame sandwiches are awesome as well! Just as s good as the Brooklyn location but with better parking! I definitely will be going back!
A welcome edition to Forest Hills. Though it's a smallish store front, there is always available seating, at least when I've been there. The dumplings are delicious, as well as the pancake sandwiches. I recently tried the cold peanut noodles and that was good too! Prices are reasonable and I always enjoy going there.
Website shows restaurant closes at 930pm. Arrived at 9pm and was told it was closed. Worker was aware website listed incorrect hours and still refused to serve me. Said he and the owner’s don’t care if customers are misled and unserved.
There are 5 Chinese restaurants, 3 Thai, 2 pizzerias in the immediate vicinity, plus several Delis and nearby friendly restaurants that would appreciate my business. That’s where I’ll spend my money from now on.
It’s only been a year since their industry was devastated and suffered numerous closures daily. How quickly they forget.
We were a group of four and I had just finished my visit to a doctor’s office. My sisters in law and wife wanted to try this new restaurant. I used two canes to walk, and we entered the restaurant no one greeted us. We see five tables for two on the left and four tables for four on the right. A counter is straight ahead with a huge tip jar glaring at us, and a cashier/ “barista” asks for our order presenting us with menus and a large sandwich board posted on the wall. They offered specials which did not intrigue me but if I ever go back, I may take advantage of them. I ordered a pork bun, pork dumplings with chives and an order of seaweed salad.
About five minutes later the cashier/barista called us to the counter to get our food from trays and get the seaweed salad from the refrigerator ourselves. There were some people at the counter trying to give him orders while he gave my sisters in law a tray of food. He then called us back for the second tray of food he’d not put on the counter. Three of us bought bottles of water and one came with the meal.
My pork and chive dumplings were fresh and competent, the pork bun was good, and I never got to try the seaweed salad because the tray slid off the table! One sister-in-law got pork fried dumplings with cabbage, the other got chicken shrimp fried wontons and my wife got a pork sandwich which was of a good size.
I advised the counter man of the issue, and he came out from the counter with a dirty rag, but my sister-in-law had already picked up the salad from the floor aside from a couple of strands and threw it away. I asked the counterman if it could be replaced and was told I’d have to pay an additional $4.88 for it. I skipped buying another one rather than having it escape on me again! The bill ran over $43.00 and the food was okay. Parking is difficult around here.
Lastly asking for tips being a counter person without any effort or waiter service to even bring trays over to customers at their tables is asking too much from a fast-food customer. If you want a tip you have to earn it! Seeing a disabled person coming in… hold open the door, or bring the food trays over even asking the boss if a discount for dropped food or a replacement could be given… These are things warranting a tip! We were four people, had even any of these courtesies been shown we probably would have left an eight-dollar tip which would have been almost 20% of the bill. People must learn, unfortunately for some it takes longer.
I wish the business the best of luck but they’ll have to get their act together.
I ordered and it took me 1hr and 30 mins to get my food and this it what i got this is inedible burned dumplings
Completely dead empty.don’t compare this location to the 1 in chinatown.it’s still a fast food or $1 item establishment but it’s way over priced now!
Unfortunately today he did not have a good experience with the food, it was in bad shape and also too salty.
I eat here fairly often. The fried cabbage and pork dumplings are my favorite. However, by refusing a free glass tap water to customers, they don't meet the basic minimum expectations I have for any dine-in restaurant.
