Village Vanguard reviews
15Sure it's a famous jazz club by like many of the storied jazz clubs in this town, it's not actually a great space. If you don't line up super early, you'll sit next to a noisy bar and listen to ice cubes being scooped, soda machines being pumped, cocktails being shaken and cans being popped.
I mean it's one of the revered jazz spots in NYC that is still standing. The acoustics cater really well to the type of music and the layout is simple and cozy.
There is only a one drink minimum now and the staff is extremely friendly for NYC standards. Lol.
Lastly the music and the musicians that play there are so top notch, you can stop by without even looking at the calendar and have a wonderful fulfilling time.
Go! Enjoy!
What can be said that others have been saying for decades? The Village Vanguard is the center of the jazz universe.
I always have a fantastic time here! Even if I’m unfamiliar with the artist, the show is great every time, and the overall vibe is immaculate. One of my favorite NYC venues!
The attention is bad. Much better is the smalls club 100 m away, more underground and intimate.
I learned tonight that even if you don't get tickets in advance there's a pretty good chance of getting into a weekend show. Just show up 30 min or so early and get on standby. Worth the wait!
Gold standard for jazz bars. Intimate seating and only the top talent play here, we saw Bill Charlap with Kenny Washington and Peter Washington.
First time at a jazz club and didn't really know what to expect. In terms of the music it was different and interesting, so can't bash that. I understand that the establishment has a lot of history, but just walking down the stairs to the place, you get hit with a moldy smell and it seems to go away while sitting in the room, but then every time the AC kicked on, roughly every 5 minutes, it hits again and was distracting. Ordered an old fashioned, and it just wasn't very good. I did like that taxes were included in the price and they were whole numbers. The servers were all very good too. Overall 4/10, probably wouldn't go back. The jazz fans in the room seemed to really enjoy themselves though, so take that for what it's worth.
Dream place in New York to listen to real good jazz with excellent acoustics. Bill Charlap's trio was at the top.
My first Jazz Club experience and what a place to have it. Village Vanguard is a institution. It’s a great cosy basement venue and has booths and plenty of spots to watch some musical performances. We saw Kenny Baron and his band. 10/10.
Great service from bar. We had a few Manhattan cocktails and had a blast. Visiting from the UK
Get there early or it is hard to see the stage. Seating is tight and no food menu. Thank goodness the music was great.
Great little place for live jazz in the village. You can buy tix online or walk in. We did a walk in on a Tuesday night and although it was busy we were still able to be seated. Either way I highly recommend showing up early (30 mins or more) in order to get better seats. $40 entry + 1 drink minimum which could be as cheap as $5. Cocktails were $16. Band was great and played for approx. 90 minutes.
I was really looking forward to go here for the live Jazz but the atmosphere and service took away from the experience. Very intimate environment and a little too close together for comfort. The wait staff was disorganized and had to wait for a long time after the set for my check. Not sure that I will go back.
I accidentally bought tickets for June instead of July and they let us in on sold out night anyway. Great intimate venue. Kind folks running the place.
It's the Village Vanguard! If you have a pulse and love jazz music, this is the mecca.
