Came here for the meat but the brisket was dry and the ribs not so tender. The waiter was a little bit pushy with us leaving and the ground floor was very noisy. Would not repeat.

Place to eat near Times Square. The BBQ is very delicious and the prices are very affordable. The waiter who served us was very attentive.

The slowest and worst service I have ever experienced in North America, after years of travelling North America. Very disconcerting to have experienced something like this here leaves me speechless.

The service was totally slow and unfriendly. Didn't get any extra water (which is normal in the US).

Food came before drinks (bottled beer), after a long wait.

The food was delicious. However, the price-performance ratio is a huge disappointment. You are better off spending your money elsewhere.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. I cannot say enough good things about Alyssa M. If you want good food at a reasonable price you must go to Virgil’s Times Square.

WORST experience at any restaurant we have ever had. Finally let my hand recover after they BURNED me so to sum it up:

- Original waiter leaves mid shift
- The restaurant burned us by handing a 1000 degree cast iron pan and didn't say a word about it to warn us. A large portion of my right hand had blistered as a result.
- Assistant manager provided burn cream while making suggestively racial comments saying it was our fault for not listening even though there was ZERO warning, saying we're from Brooklyn and she had seen us around. The comments had the intention that we do this a lot to their restaurant for free meals or something and we had to explain ourselves, even though this was our first time going.
- Even after giving us a severe blistering burn from their negligence they still CHARGED us for the meal and only took $30 off
- When they packed up our food they intentionally removed the chicken and the corn bread that was part of our order so there goes that $30.

Went to this place as a celebration dinner, since we saw some good reviews online about it. We sat down and were greeted by the waiter who left halfway through and replaced by a waitress. We ordered our meal and once it came the waiter or waitress did not give any warning as to the temperature of the pan serving the fries. The person who placed it down faced the handle toward me that hovered over my plate, so I tried turning it away. I put my hand on it for less than a second and that was enough for my hand to be absolutely burnt. I started getting blisters pretty much all over my fingers and some on my palm. Took about 5 minutes to get the waitress attention since she was busy elsewhere and she called the assistant manager over. The assistant manager came over and apologized giving us burn cream and ice in a rubber glove. Then she started making comments that the waiters/waitresses are taught to warn about the heat from the plates/skillets. She said WE didn't hear them when we mentioned they never said anything as a warning.

Let's examine this for a second: the waiters/waitresses are 2 inches from the table. There is no way you would be able to mention that and us not to hear it. There is also two people there, the waitress and a waiter bringing the food. How would two people mention the skillet is hot and we wouldn't hear it? Lastly, isnt it the employee responsibility to make sure we know that the pan they bring us can give us a severe burn? Why would it even be a question that we didn't hear them in the first place?

Then she started claiming we were from brooklyn and that we had been there before after claiming it was our fault (basically insinuating we do this a lot to their restaurant to get free meals). Again this was our first time ever going, and who would burn themselves intentionally to get out of paying a $60 meal? Seriously?

They ended up marking $30 off the meal and packed up the food and we left so I can get more medicine for my burn. When we got home, we found out they had intentionally removed literally a quarter of the meal (the 1/2 chicken and the cornbread side we ordered from the feeds two meal).

This was definitely the WORST experience I've ever had at a restaurant and I would highly advise you stay AWAY from here.

Edit: Removed waitress name from receipt picture. Not sure if this is the original waitress but if so she was very nice and got the manager once she found out about the burn.

I had about an hour for lunch before catching a 1pm show. I caught this BBQ place during a relatively slow time, which was lucky for me! The hostess outside was lovely, tall, confident, and open. She struck up a conversation without coming across as pushy or desperate (something I sometimes notice in the City).
I was seated right away and since I had already spotted what I wanted on the menu outside, I cut right to the chase. I let my waitress know that I was ready to order and that I had a show to get to, and she was so considerate in that hour I was there, making sure I was all paid up in plenty of time.
She was also training someone who was equally enthusiastic and kind to customers. As a flight attendant, I'm always noticing when people in the service industry go out of their way to make customers happy.
The food was good! I'd go again! I'll add that I ordered the Carolina BBQ with cornbread, collards (NOT mushy, thankfully, and cooked with the pork), and slaw (with both mayo and vinegar). The sauce on the tender, pulled pork was NOT quite what I've had in the Carolinas. I was born and raised a Carolina girl and lived from the mountains to the shore. I've had all the varieties of sauce. Western, Eastern, all the stuff in between. That said, I did not dislike the sauce at Virgil's; It's just not what I expected. My husband, who's lived in NJ basically his whole life, wouldn't know the difference. Living here now, a BBQ meal like this is something I miss from my childhood. It was good to get a taste in the middle of Manhattan.

Had lunch here and sat outside. Ordered two wings with two ribs and Mac and cheese and roasted broccoli. The sides were awesome however the wings were very salty. I did enjoy the ribs and it was plenty of food. The service was terrific. I had a frozen lemonade without alcohol and it was very delciious. I enjoyed my meal however food was over salted and that made it harder to enjoy while overall it was good. Chicken was really the only issue. Nice to sit outside but homeless man a few feet away was awkward. Has good offers for happy hour weekdays

That hot summer's day, we were a family of 20 (with nine children) schlepping all over The City. Previously, I'd worked with the wonderful Cynthia at Virgil's Real BBQ, and she helped me put together the most incredible menu. So when we all walked in - hot, thirsty, a little cranky - our table was ready with drinks laid out.and the most wonderful food just started comin' out the doors.

I can't recommend Virgil's highly enough. There were 20 of us - I keep saying that - and our servers Emily and Armando and Manager Alyssa CHEERFULLY worked their buns off to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. The food was, frankly, heavenly! We had an actual Texan in our group, and even HE was impressed with the quality of the barbecued chicken and meats and all the fixin's that came along. Special shout-out to the apple pie! (I know, yawn, apple pie. But this is GOOD apple pie. Mom could take a lesson.)

They helped us box up the leftovers, and it was enough to feed THE WHOLE CROWD the next night for dinner! (We had planned a nice restaurant dinner, but they all shouted, "No, we want the BBQ! ") (The food was just as good reheated!)

Pleasant establishment although noisy. The food is very good and the portions very generous at reasonable prices for the area. The service is impeccable. The servers are attentive, fun and attentive to your needs.

I had an AMAZING time with my daughter at this restaurant! My server was Brandon, and he was absolutely fantastic! He was attentive, made sure we always had what we needed, great conversation, and gave detailed info on the food we weren’t familiar with.

I've enjoyed dinner at Virgil's on several trips to New York. It's a reliable restaurant with a wide range of BBQ meats, and the service is usually excellent

Have ate here a few times, never had a bad meal. You definitely have to get here at a certain time or you will be waiting. Great service, clean bathrooms which is a good thing in NYC. I have had Texas BBQ in Texas and this place nails it. Highly reccomend!

Old school grilled ribs and generous sides for a last-minute supper in Times Square. Lively and fun atmosphere although noisy. Good intro to American BBQ.
