Warwick Valley Humane Society reviews
12I went with my husband to adopt a cat and although the most of the staff was nice, the person tending to us was terrible. She was rude, not helpful with questions, very judgemental and when we were approved she called and said we needed nothing else just come get the cat. When we did arrive she demanded $125. I explained I can pay that but it would have been nice to tell me this before I drove to the shelter, was interviewed and was asked way too many questions. When I give her my card to pay she said WE DON'T TAKE CARDS. CASH ONLY. If it weren't for our promise to our 10 year old, I would not have bothered adopting. She was very offputting. Nice place, but some of your staff is judgemental, rude and just outright NASTY. I'd never go back there again.
They go above and beyond for all of their animals and match the proper animals with the best home possible.
Great place to find the perfect pet. The director is extremely well versed in the care of the animals.
Very unorganized. Some cages had to be moved to get to other cats. There were some large cat pens housing 6+ cats in a small area.
When I was looking to adopt a rabbit 6 years ago, I never thought my search would take me all the way to Warwick, New York, but I am so glad that it did because from the WVHS I adopted the love of my life and most beloved rabbit, Waldo. He was well taken care of and they were extremely flexible with our adoption date. We went to visit him and couldn't adopt him until a few weeks later, but in the meantime, he was fixed, cared for, and then we went on to spend 5 1/2 wonderful years loving this sweet, sweet soul. I am forever grateful to the WVHS for rescuing him from his original circumstances so that he could come into my life and change it forever.
I have owned and loved cats since I was five years old. My cats live better than most children. The Warwick Shelter turned me down twice saying that my cats were not up to date with their shots. The cats they were checking on had passed yet they lived to be 16,18 and even 21 years old. I am not surprised that have too many animals that have not been adopted. Sad!
Seems like a great organization, but the community needs to find a way to give them adequate space. They offer rabies clinics throughout the year, but if you have a puppy or kitten it is probably not going to get vaccinated this way as they prefer your pet to have their first rabies vaccine from their vet. However, in the same breath they’ll recommend you wait a few weeks and go to a different clinic in Middletown. Seems a little confusing to me, but I guess they don’t want to take chances.
My son & his girlfriend donate their time interacting & playing / socializing with the cats in this shelter. The shelter is kept very clean. The cats have a beautiful Sun room to roam freely in.
We went to the shelter to adopt two kittens or older cats. We filled out the application and was told the committee would review our application and get back to us. We called Friday and was told we were denied because she didn't like some of our answers. For example the space for age wasn't filled in- in it was written none of your business. This is age discrimination. One lady told us her mother was denied adoption because she was too old. Another lady was denied because her house was too cluttered. No wonder there are so many animals there looking for adoption.
A nice shelter with lots of loving animals that need homes. Adopted two sweet kittens and the staff approved us the same day.
I work at a small business down the road from their office we found a kitten that was hurt and sick in our parking lot we took him in and called the Humane Society they were here within minutes to come pick him up and take care of him the staff was very respectful and informative it was an overall great experience, knowing that the kitten would receive the care he needed.
I have adopted three cats from here. They really need a larger place as, at times, they may have close to a hundred cats! I love visiting. The staff are wonderful people.
