West Side Steakhouse, New York NY

Today I had dinner there by myself. The food tasted good, however the service was questionable at the best. About 5 minutes after I paid, I was asked to leave my table because they needed it. Next to me was an empty table. In total I was less than an hour in the restaurant. I truly felt this place doesn’t appreciate guests who are just by themselves.

My Husband and I are REGULARS and we dine here often or even place in to-go orders to take back to Brooklyn. However, tonight may be our last night dining because our experience was not good. We brought visitors with us this time which made it even more disappointing. One of our visitors ordered the fried calamari and they did not like it. The plate was still full as if it had not been touched and our server came to us to ask if everything was okay and etc (We explained to them why we did not eat the appetizer). Instead of removing the fried calamari off our bill, we was still charged for it and then bribed with a desert that we still had to pay for because we asked for the fried calamari to be removed. My husband and I always spend our hard earn money here and to simply NOT remove one item that we did not eat is unacceptable.

Go for the porterhouse steak if you are a carnivore! So juicy, tender, flavorful and enjoyable! Add to it the lovely mushroom risotto and creamy spinach!
The service so on point but unfortunately we weren’t custom to the services culture so we gave less tip than we meant to. Next time we’re in NYC we’ll do better! If you can’t finish up, bring home in boxes! Don’t waste food in times like this when environment and energy are critical!

It was good UNTIL THE END.
I had a reservation. The experience started off great. I was fond of the cozy set up and warm lighting.
Our drinks were pretty good and the service although a bit delayed was accommodating and polite.
We both got Ribeye steaks with garlic mashed potatoes and some sautéed sides. I even purchased an additional meal (the basil chicken breast) to go, to bring with me to the office the next day. Our bill was in excess of $200.
At the end of dinner we paid in cash, leaving excess for tip, and proceeded to leave.

RIDICULOUSLY i was stopped at the door and confronted by the server about the tip amount.
Now, i work in the legal field, the receipt says “suggested gratuity” … I rarely ever even look at those break downs anyway. I tip based on the amount of servers i had and the overall service.

Whyyy on earth is my server flagging me down at the door to let me know there is a minimum tip amount and I didn’t meet the minimum stated on the receipt? EXCUSE ME? Your receipt SUGGESTS a tip breakdown nowhere on the receipt does it say there is a mandatory minimum. However we had no problem giving more especially if i knew it had to be shared or whatever but why didn’t you let us know this at our table? It was very embarrassing for you to stop of at the door brandishing the receipt creating the impression that we did not pay enough for our bill or something. Then after all that, when i am mortified in a restaurant filled with customers and taking some more cash from my bag, the server proceeded to say “its okay”

Of course it is NOT ok! If it was okay you would not have stopped us upon leaving, and even then how can it be okay after you do such a thing to FIRST time customers?

I will NOT be returning. And its a shame because the food was not bad.

Ps. I have read the responses the owner writes under reviews, save yourself the trouble writing me a nasty reply, it only reflects worse on your establishment. Public relations is very important.

Incredible experience. We always love to go here when in town, the service is always top notch, but seems to have gotten better. We even asked for more bread rolls, which are amazing and they had no problem giving us more. The asparagus is the best I’ve ever had! It’s my favorite every time, pure bliss. I had the bone in rib-eye and it was cooked to perfection. It is not overpriced and definitely not a tourist trap. I will take a plane to the city just to eat here. Call me crazy.

Overall, the Ribeye steak was excellent, the Gin and Tonic was to the rim, the service was excellent. Also the value for me was the price, saved a few dollars versus dining at the other steakhouses nearby.

Oklahoma family came to New York for vacation we came to west side steak house I am 44 years old never had lobster? But after getting one in New York I loved it every we got was the best we had if you are in New York this place is a must go to

I had filet mignon and it was the best cut of steak I've ever had in my life, and was cooked to perfection. The only negative is that I live in the UK so I can't frequent this place.

Seriously, if you like steak then go here. The end.

My fish was dry and over cooked the vegetables tasted like water was piloted in them. The dish was $38 and when I called to give feed the hostess was vey rude and dismissive and told me that it was because the veggies are like a soup. She even yelled Jesus to me over the phone and not pleasant upon me entering restaurant to pick up my order that I ordered over the phone 15 prior to the meal being ready for pick up.
For a hostess/ manager she was very rude and did not want to hear my feed back about why I had to discard the meal.

Wir haben das Restaurant in unserem Urlaub gesehen und haben es besucht. Hatten das Porterhouse-Steak. Es war fantastisch! Falls wir nochmal nach New York kommen, dann gerne nochmal! Geheimtipp ist der Wiskey Sour!

Always love love love this place the steak is surprisingly amazing (filet) and everything else on the menu is very decent. Wait staff is very professional and efficient and management is the best, very personable. I would most certainly try this place especially in this area as there aren’t many good steak houses at all unfortunately and this passes the test.

I struggled with this rating - only because I wanted to keep it to friends and family! Did I really want to tell the world about the fabulous experience, the melt in your mouth steaks! The service and price were great too - in NYC for the weekend be sure to include dinner at West Side Steakhouse!

Absolutely phenomenal meal and excellent service. The staff was so friendly and they worked like a well oiled machine. The food was beyond delicious, I would eat dinner here every day if I could. One of the best steaks I've ever had.

It's a nice and cozy location near Times Square. I went with a group of friends for my birthday and I will definately return in the immediate future. There was excellent ambiance. The waiter was quite helpful and entertaining. The menu has a great selection and plenty to choose from. The NY Strip Steak was excellent and the sides were fabulous. I will definately be coming back whenever I'm in the city.

We ordered the porterhouse to share, the flavor was okay but nothing special, it was too red for a medium/medium well. The sides were great and so was the service, but I was expecting better steak tbh.

We had a fabulous meal there - lamb shank and salmon were our entree choices and they were both extremely well executed - perfection. The bed of mushroom risotto under my lamb shank was YUM! We also ordered a side of creamed spinach that was top-notch. Wine list was ok for by-the-glass options, but wholly impressive on the bottle selections: Jordan, Stags Leap, or Silver Oak cabs would have been perfect for steaks. Definitely would come back!

The steak, salmon & spinach & French fries were are really good. Also, the cappuccino was excellent; I drank it slowly to savor every bit. Customer service was good & it's a clean place. We were visiting NYC & if we ever return, we'll probably come back here for steak. It was a nice lunch before the dinner rush started.

We came all the way from Houston, Texas and had saw the excellent reviews of this restaurant and they did not lie! The service and food were amazing! So delicious very chic but homey restaurant. Will definitely eat there again! Delicous!

We went here for my husband's birthday, when I looked at the reviews I thought it would be good but after this experience I can firmly say we will not be returning. We both ordered filet mignon and they were both cold in the center which tells me it wasn't cooked all the way through and for the price you pay for them you shouldn't need to question if it's cooked or not. Our server had a soft voice and it was hard to hear half the time. The only reason we're giving it two stars is because the sides (steak fries and baked potato came out hot and fresh). We would have liked to try the lava cake but the filet just left us with a loss of appetite.

Service was awful. Put us near the bathroom and it smelled terrible. Left us unattended and never refilled the drinks until I called her after 20 minutes. Hardly understood English. Burnt my steak when I asked for medium rare. Never would go here again. Smells, service sucks, and can't cook a steak, why would I go back.
