Widow Jane Distillery reviews
19 The bourbon is phenomenal. Coming from someone who is an avid bourbon drinker and has over 300 bottles of bourbon/whiskey, decadence has my heart. It's my favorite bourbon by far. I have one currently cracked and several on deck. I'll continue to grab them as I can find them.
The distillery is really cool. I just visited it from FL last weekend. Picked up a couple bottles of decadence and an anniversary bottle. This is my second time visiting. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They also make some killer drinks. If they added a few TV's to their bar, I might have never left.
Never been to the distillery. Review is based off of the product received in PA.
Have had WJ a number of times. Price tag completely unjustifiable. The product is fine.
There is just far too many superior whiskeys for the same or lower cost. People buying the hype of “limestone water? ”
The people at the distillery are amazing. If you try to go during the week including Friday call before heading over to verify someone will be around to give a tour. There was a little confusion but the are very cool and tool care of us. Will be back to see these great people and what they are doing in whiskey again.
A colleague from work highly recommended the Decadence. I searched high and low for a store that had it in stock. I traveled from NJ to NYC to find it! And was it ever worth the journey. Sweet full body flavor. Take it neat or use it in a bread pudding or ice cream recipe. This is definitely one you need to keep in stock in your bar. I picked up two bottles. It’s pricey but if you are a bourbon aficionado, it’s so worth it!
I have to say that I am less than thrilled with my last experience at Widow Jane. We spend the early afternoon in the tasting room (bar) trying the various offerings. All in all, I believe we tried about 6-7 of their products. Having come from Pennsylvania, I have never had the opportunity to try/purchase either the Decadence or the Vaults, both turned out to be phenomenal pours. When we were finished, I approached the bar and ordered a couple of bottles to go, among them the Decadence and Vaults. He then proceeds to laugh at me and say there is a wait for the decadence and that I can’t have it. Inappropriate, right? Dumbfounded l, I just purchased the bottle of vaults and left with the group. Thinking back, this really was not an okay situation. First off, why have something on a bottle to-go price list if it’s not available. Second, why have something available for tasting that isn’t available for purchase. Both of these left a sour taste in my mouth and an ehhh feeling about Widow Jane. It’s a shame because their products are damn good, but if this is how their staff acts I’m not sure that I will be back.
Awesome staff, very knowledgeable about the Bourbon and the bartenders make an incredible list of Bourbon drinks. If you're a huge fan of Widow Jane, this is the easiest place to find a bottle, and it's cheaper than any liqour store in Manhattan. The distillery tour was awesome, our tour guide knew the process inside and out. The tour also let us walk around the various sites (production, warehouse, bottling operations) which really gave good detail on how the bourbon is made. I would love to be a fly on the wall of the head distiller's tasting sessions! Can't wait to go back once Baby Jane is bottled. Try the Ginger Jane if you go!
We were already familiar with Widow Jane, so when we found out our recent trip to NYC was going to take us within a 30 minute drive of checking out the distillery, we had to go. Both the tour guide and the bartenders were awesome. It was interesting to see their operational set up and learn how much goes into the production of their products. There are some cool products you can try exclusively at the bar, as well as some harder to find products that we (in Florida) were happy to be able to purchase and/or sample. Check out the tour and spend some time in the bar afterwards! It's a top notch experience for the whiskey lover.
The whiskey isn’t made in Brooklyn. It’s sourced from other distilleries in Kentucky and Tennessee, they slap a Widow Jane label on it and voila, NYC whiskey. The whiskey is good but this “distillery” is not really legitimate.
The owners of this establishment are bad neighbors and rude people to area residents. No roots in the community. They don’t distill their product either. It’s just blended from other people’s product. What a bummer.
I have never been a fan of bourbon until I stumbled upon this masterpiece. My husband treated himself to a bottle ($70 isn’t cheap) after his big promotion. I poured a bit in a snifter…it smelled of oaky vanilla & warm spices and was so smooth and (almost creamy? !? !) on the palate. I’ve always been more of a wine connoisseur, but now I must confess that we will be purchasing this “liquid gold” regularly. I am by no means a heavy drinker, but this is my new drink of choice. I’ve also enjoyed Woodford reserve to some degree, but Widow Jane takes the gold in my book! Amazing quality Bourbon; highly recommended
Great friendly staff all round. The spouse did the tour I sat at the bar while I waited. I enjoy their blanco margaritas. The hummus and pita chips were very tasty. The spicy pickles were SPICY. Lol great flavor. The spouse had an old fashioned and the 13 neat. We ended Up taking home a bottle of the 13 it was that good.
Been meaning to come here for years and was finally able to once they reopened in July. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The whiskey is incredible and the cocktails are delicious. Tour was fun and informative. Only a five minute walk from the ferry. Look forward to going back.
Wonderful tour of the distillery with great company from the bar next door. Thank you for the great experience.
Got to tour the Distillery yesterday, led by Emma. She was very knowledgeable and friendly and answered all my questions. Afterwards, we got to try four different bourbon and even some chocolate. Would highly recommend.
I have been on many distillery tours, and found this one lacking a bit. It may have just been the tour guide that wasn't too great, hard to know having only gone once. The tasting samples were extremely small and limited.
Good whiskey tasting tour. My only complaint is the building is not well insulated. In the winter it's cold and in the summer it's a bit stuffy.
Very nice little distillery in Red HookBrooklyn. We visited this distillery on a sunny Sunday afternoon. First we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, then we took the Metro to Brooklyn Borough Hall, switched to the bus from there easy. The last part we walked to the distillery, you should definitely do that. The distillery itself is small but full of character. Friendly people and they know their stuff. We had the tour of the distillery and warehouse and afterwards we had a little tasting. Excellent bourbon! If you want you can purchase a bottle. But not the 10yrs, if you want that one go to Dry Dock. Not far from the distillery!
Nice work guys, keep it up!
The employee/tour guide was very knowledgeable on history, production, and even odd questions. Great tour, decadent dark chocolate, and some of the finest whiskey I’ve ever tasted!
The drinks are delicious and the bartender is delightful. Make the trek, it's worth it. Natalie is amazing, get the bartender's special. The tea lights burn out really quick, so maybe replace those moving forward
