YOSHINO • NEW YORK reviews
15This restaurant is not authentic Japanese any more. For lowering cost and hire who are not Japanese chef to make sushi and pretend to be a high-end Japanese restaurant, and set price unreasonably high. Japanese chef choose New York because he knows he can't compete with Tokyo chef. A restaurant only look for money, many costumer have to pay high service tips. One of the costumer ordered a expensive sake and pay 15% tip. The manger chasing them for more tips! That is ridiculous!
I booked the reservation one month ago for my anniversary. The restaurant sent me the confirmation email one day before the reservation. I confirmed with restaurant and I was expect to attend. However I waked up in the morning and was shocked because the manger cancelled my reservation at middle night, the day of my reservation, my anniversary! Last minute the manger cancelled my reservation. I waited for their call, they didn't even give me a call! So I wrote a email to them ask the reason. They just say they define my credit card as scalper's (that's their explanation which is absolutely insult, I can simply give them other credit card if they doubt, second how they still took my deposit actually two full meal fee 1000$+200$ service+tax if they doubt my credit card? But without any apology and without communicating with me! (what is funny is, they charge the deposit already! I don't know whether other people's reservation had been cancelled without refund like this? Whole morning Totally no contact, no detail explanation. They didn't even give a call to explain. In the email, they asked me to contact with Tock, but funny is Tock don't know anything, they check the system they don't the why they cancelled my reservation. Tock asked me to call the restaurant, but I called them. None picked phone at all. Moreover they already deposited with my credit! Tock said the deposit already transferred to restaurant! (that's so wired, what 's their behavior). Around 1 pm afternoon already (you know you suffered from this disgusting thing, you won't have mood to plan other thing). The first email they just said my credit card is scalper but without mentioning any refund, Yoshino asked me to contact Tock and didn't mention any refund. They are really susceptive. Until I said your restaurant sent the confirmation email ahead and cancelled my reservation after my confirming, and Tock don't know why your restaurant cancelled my reservation! (luckily I contacted with Tock first, I could stop them using any excuses) then they sent me second email promise me will refund it. But how can they charge with my credit card already. They deposited already. Back step, They should cancel at least 3 days ahead. They knew the rules that if cancelled within 3 days, no refund. This is seriously problem. If they cancelled my reservation at least one week ahead, I wouldn't be so angry. In addition, I could have enough time to book other restaurant. This restaurant ruined my anniversary totally. Make me feel disgusting. I feel huge depression, sadness. I think none met this situation like me. Anniversary cancelled by a restaurant and didn't receive any apology. The explanation email I only could tell how much rudeness and arrogant of them, there is no single word of apology. Never meet this kind of restaurant before. The popularity is based on their fame from Nagoya, they chose New York instead of Tokyo. Tokyo is more competitive. We travel to Japan always, my Japanese traveling argent helped us book many local Japanese restaurants. They are so polite never broke the agreement. This restaurant is no thing about food, they thought they are top star, and they are so popular and never lack of costumers. So Disgusting. Moreover if you are regular or send gifts to them, you can book directly from them. So shame on this restaurant. Make me feel nausea, so disgusting!
One of the best Omakase, if not the best! No need to travel to Japan for great sushi experiences any more.
So good I went back in September 2022 for a birthday. Top tier.
Easily some of the best nigiri in the world.
The experience at Yoshino was really amazing and stunning. Here was the best sushi place I've ever been. Nice service and nice food! Thanks for everything:)
The location was a little tricky to find, but I definitely had one of the most amazing dining experiences here. Equipped with his profound techniques and skills, Yoshida san showed what a high-end sushi restaurant should be like, from auction-level ingredients to the level of detail in service. For the ingredients, we had freshly auctioned chutoro and otoro, and AAA grade level uni. We were also served kegani, abalone, tako, and other incredible fish! Chef Gang always comes and wipes the sushi plate after every single course of sushi. To protect the wooden sushi counter, there are little plates for phones so that they won't scratch and add any dirt to them. The dining cloth is customized for the season - Yoshida san signed mine! The team is really made of a group of awesome people. Mayumi is one of the best GM I have ever see! Yoshida san is so welcoming and extrovert that he would have great interaction with everyone and made the night extremely enjoyable even though he still has a little language barrier! Moreover, even though he is truly a master of sushi, he is very humble and patient when we ask more questions about his technique, sushi, or food generally. I definitely would go back next season!
The best of best sushi in town, better than Masa and others. The only thing is that it’s so hard to make reservations!
Truly a reason to visit New York in itself. Yoshino is probably one of the more expensive omakase options in NYC, but it's also probably one of the few that stand out these days, making it worth the high dollar.
Both chefs are an absolute delight and the overall service gave way to a less stuffy fine-dining atmosphere, making you feel as if you were at your friend's (who happens to be an insanely talented, charismatic chef) house for an omakase dinner.
I got to try courses I've never had at any omakase dinner (my favorites were the mochi and basque cheesecake) - as another reviewer wrote, it wouldn't do the food justice for me to try to describe the dishes. You'll just have to see for yourself!
I went there Wednesday night for dinner and started having the worst food poisoning in my life on Thursday. Very strong stomach cramping, fever and headache. 2 days later I’m still in miserable pain.
I thought a high end place like this should be safe.
Really beautiful food that almost takes a back seat to the overall experience of seeing a true artist at work.
Special trip to NYC just for my birthday dinner at Yoshino and it was entirely worth the trip from Atlanta. Perfect in every way and far surpassing expectations.
The best omakase in nyc. Great service and wonderful food. Every penny was well worth. Chef yoshida and chef gang are super friendly! Great experience!
Yoshino gives people a new reason to visit New York. I found myself constantly canceling other restaurant’s reservations while dine at Yoshino. Too much description on how does the food taste like might not help in this case because they are all very amazing and I’m certain everybody will find their favorite dish at Yoshino. The only word I could describe this place is: Happiness. If searching for happiness or wanting to experience happiness is why you’re looking at this review. Don’t look at anywhere else.
Such a great experience by Yoshida San. The best sushi in NYC. I’d definitely come back again!
If you know, you know. First class and incredible food. Understandable why reservations are so hard to get. Chef is a master at his craft.
