My second apartment owned by Zuzu property. No major issues, they are always helpful in assisting us

I know it’s kinda late for my review but I think I am ready to talk about it. This is a situation that had happened to me back back in April of 2020. I have been afraid to talk about this because we are still in a legal battle due to covid and the courts are still not fully open. I think this needs to be addressed so I could finally get this off my chest. I was living at one of there residence for 4 years. Never have I ever experience any issues with previous places I have lived prior. I have established great references that support my move. I have outstanding good credit and a pleasant Demeter. At the time, I was working 2 jobs and going to school (now with my success, I am working for a government job under NY state) so I most deffinetly wasn’t home a lot and paying rent under a shared living space because of financial reasons. Long story short, the pandemic hit and I actually had covid and had difficulties breathing where I needed a respirator, a bunch of Tylenol and other medicines to keep me alive. Managment knew this and in leaving, I never received my security deposit back even though I complied to every situation prior to my move out date. All the bills were successfully paid of in FULL with receipt proof! They wrote to me with a bunch of emails stating that they were going to give me my security deposit back (which was $2400) because I was so compliant with the circumstances and they stated this in writing and until this day, I have not received one penny back of my security deposit. I am a “on time” payer but my roommate lost her job and stop paying and didn’t tell anyone because she was too embarrassed. I stepped up to the plate and payed it all and even left the apartment clean with broom swept condition with picture proof as well. I don’t understand why they LIED to me on giving me my security deposit back. What’s even crazier is that I kept asking for my security deposit back and they told me it takes a little while to receive but still never received anything. I felt robbed of the money I put down and I don’t feel as if I deserve this treatment. I partly feel this was discriminated against me because I am part Hispanic and part white (All Lives Matter Movement). I don’t recommend them at all after I gave them enough time to reach out to me to settle the situation. I wouldn’t even wish my worsts enemy to live at one of there residence. Honestly just wished they gave me the same respect in return like I did with them the moment I met them. All I ask in return was my security deposit and for that, they lost all my trust. Sorry I had to write this on review but other people need to know what I went through so the next person does not experience what I went through.

P. S They have numerous citations because they couldn’t up with the property either. Sorry I refused to live here another year.

My roommate and I lived in a ZuZu managed building for a little over 3 years and we had a great experience. ZuZu was responsive with anything we needed and never intrusive. The property was decently kept and our apartment was a fresh remodel when we moved in. We didn't see a rent increase in 3 years which we greatly appreciated being in such a booming neighborhood. ZuZu was a great, easy to work with management company, and I'd recommend them & their properties.

Zuzu has been one of our favorite landlords. We’ve never had an issue, when things needed fixing they’ve reacted quickly. The couple times we were late on rent they were very understanding. The receptionist was always very helpful, polite, and attentive. We were bummed when we had to move.

My experience with Zuzu was the worst I've ever had with a landlord/property management company. Any repairs more complicated than changing a lightbulb took far too long to get fixed - and sometimes never got addressed at all. 50 Herbert Street has tons of tiles missing from the floor in the hallway, and in the whole year I was there this was never fixed, despite me tripping on them and asking for it to be repaired multiple times. A far bigger issue was the pests. Roaches were the first issue - and this eventually progressed to rats. Many of the trash cans at the front of the building didn't have tops to them, so we'd see rats feasting on the food inside whenever we left the house. We reported this multiple times and, after several weeks, were rewarded with new cans with lids - unfortunately, by this point the rats were living in the basement and had now come into our apartment. The solution? Zuzu put down a few traps. Honestly, I could go on (about a leak in my bedroom ceiling that wasn't fixed for a week, about nightmare tenants in the building who would sing at the tops of their voices til 5am every night) but this review is already long enough. If you have any other options, don't rent here.
