I used to be super impressed with Dr. Ahern when I started seeing her back in 2014 or so. However, it went downhill. I was a little off put when she made a political comment out of nowhere during my exam around the 2016 election stating that she would have to go out of business if a certain presidential candidate was elected. I don’t care if people have differing political views than me, but I find it very unprofessional to state your political views to a patient. Nevertheless, I kept going because I found her to be super knowledgeable and thorough in explaining things. When I had my son, I took him in for an exam. She stated he had no vision concerns and to bring him back when he was old enough to recognize shapes and letters. Well, at a well child check, it was determined he did have the vision concerns I was worried he may have, and he had to be referred to a pediatric ophthalmologist. I was frustrated with this, but I was still willing to give Dr. Ahern a chance for my own eye exam, writing her off as maybe young children not being her area of expertise (although I wish she would have said that). I tried to schedule my annual eye exam, and I was told they would not be scheduling until after Dr. Ahern returned from a conference. They said they would call me back to schedule. They never did. I waited for six months. This was the final straw that led me to look elsewhere. I am sorry to say it because I initially was impressed.

Have been taking the kids there for years. Never had a problems until now. Scheduling was a nightmare. They couldn't schedule any appointments but would call back with availability. It took a couple weeks, but they finally called and got the kids in. That was 2 months ago. Still don't have their glasses. Call multiple times and get a recording every time except once in the past month. That time I was told they had 1 pair that came in but don't have the other 2. I asked for them to please look into why (as my grandson broke his old ones). Never heard back from them. Made a trip there today to ask in person since they don't seem to answer the phone, only to find a dark building with a note on the door that they are closed until next week. If it weren't for the note, I would have thought they had closed permanently. Completely unacceptable service on their part. I will never use the office again and advise others to look somewhere else.

5 week wait for glasses. Rude and not patient friendly. Glasses are wrong and now I have to go somewhere else and pay out of pocket in addition to the 200.00 I already shelled out. Worst eye doctor experience ever!

Ahern was great but the staff needs lessons on how to deal with people and make you feel welcomed and not like your intruding on there time.

The dr herself is great, but the lab they use is absolutely ridiculous. I ordered my glasses on March 16th (mind you I paid out of pocket for mine, or i wouldnt have even bothered to travel back to urbana to pick them up as we moved to marion on april 1st and i thought my glasses would come in before we moved). Here we are on May 12th aand still dont have them. They called the lab and said it wouldnt get here till friday, but the office is closed on friday. I suggest working with a different lab from now on cuz it seems ridiculous to drive from marion to urbana for a pair of glasses but highly doubt i could get refunded. Oh and when they did once reach the office they had to send them back cuz they put the wrong prescription lenses in them. Ridiculous.

Dr. Ahern has been my optometrist since I was a child, her husband was my primary physician until he retired, and I can tell you that her and her staff have always been excellent. They have an excellent selection of frames, and have always been very generous with their time.

I wouldn’t even give it a star but unfortunately I have to. Office staff are rude and incapable of doing their job.
