The phone ap is HORRIBLE, the bank itself is just ok nothing special, to many hoops to jump thru for mobile deposits, I feel bamboozled over the "rated best in Columbus" I call BS on that

Update 1/8/2021 - I want to do Mobile deposits. I have to request to be able to do that for each account I have. I have three - it is a 25$ fee for each account. If they were not local to me, I would change banks. Mobile Banking is Free at the other Credit Unions I use - like Navy Federal. A Credit Union is supposed to be about the members, BMI has forgotten that.

The larger BMI FCU gets, the worse it gets. Been a member for over 30 years. Each year I consider closing my accounts and then I talk with the long term employees there and change my mind. Here is a example of the crazy stuff that happens up there. I think my debit card has been compromised. I call and ask them to send me a new one. No problem they say, a couple of days go by and I call to inquire about the new card and some bank charges on my account. I get a new debit card from each conversation. Then a week after I get 2 cards, I get a brand new copy of the card I canceled. Just makes you wonder.

Always exceptional service, but this past week I was concerned about getting quarters for the laundry mat with the lobby being closed and only able to use a drive-through. The staff was very accommodating and checked out my transaction then came and dropped the quarters at the front for me. Just wish that the coffee machine was more suitable for guests to take a cup with us. Lids would be nice. That’s my only complaint

Every time I try to use the drive up ATM it is down for servicing. Last time I tried to use it, it was up and running, but I could see behind it where the machine was being serviced and here the staff talking. Wtf

I originally opened an account with them in Dec 2018 because they had a 0 transfer fee, 0% apr visa. It took a while for them to get the account open, so finally in the first week of January, I called to discuss the process of balance transfer and low and behold, it was a "promotional offer" that ended the month prior.

Ok, no big deal, I decided to keep the account open and see if there are other perks of having an account with BMI. After 6 months, they started taking a $5/mo maintenance fee, while is quite surprising as i have accounts at 8 different banks and 1 credit union and none charge a monthly fee. In fact, my other credit union account (Wright patt credit union which I highly recommend) gave me $50 for having an account with them.

Bottom line, you can do better than BMI. Dont waste your time.

I have my auto loan through BMI. I will say that their phone customer service is pretty good but their online bill pay options have to be updated. First you have to call to request online access, then it takes time and a few steps to add an external account, then after making an online payment, you have to go back into the transactions to approve the transfer. I’ve been paying bills online for over 15 years and this is the most counter-intuitive system I’ve ever experienced.

They offer some nice things for people who are trying to fix there credit, also offer low interest loans. However they are terrible and managing money, Direct Deposit fails, credit card cancellations for no reason, and without notifying you. I have had Bethpage Federal Credit union of NY, Chase, and a variety of other banks, BMI by far is the worst.

Review Details:
Issue One
Got a secured Loan,
The payments were for 500 monthly
The total amount was 3500
There was an auto bill pay setup to pull the money to pay the bill.
They only pulled 125.00 monthly and never pulled the full amount, which instead of helping my credit screwed me.

Issue two.
Had a credit card through the bank,
They sent out a notification on Chipped cards
They never sent me the notification
The card i had was cancelled without notification
I was on a road trip tried to buy gas,
couldn't buy gas.
Called the bank, who indicated that the card was re-activated
Bank never reactivated the card, "smartly i had emergency 20.00 in the car" so i got enough gas to get home with that cash, since the card was yet again declined.
Called the bank, they told me the card was once again activated, and it was never activated, declined again.
Called the bank, who cancelled my card, told me that it was required to have a chipped card, ordered a card to ship to the bank for local pickup, never called me when it came in, 3 weeks later i went to the branch to inquire about it, they indicated that it had gotten there, was there a week, and was sent back to the corp office. Told me they could give me a printed non-chipped card.cancelled credit card.

Issue 3
Asked to deposit money into saving account, which was never completed, receipt shows the deposit but the bank has no record of it.deposit lost.no FDCC regulation.no insurance, no money.

Issues 4.
Direct deposited a check from my job, they indicated that the check was deposited but the bank has no indication it was ever received, called the Job, had them put a hold on the check and to cancel the deposit, had to have it moved to direct deposit to my Chase account, which received it immediately with no issues.

This bank has constant issues with doing "Bank things" Not worth the interest on savings IMO.

I have always had wonderful service from BMI fcu. They are always there to assist when I need help on any way, sick as car loans, refinance options, holiday loans and more. Never a bad experience, and service with a smile!

PLEASE READ THIS REGARDING MY EXPERIENCE WITH DISCRIMINATION: My wife and I "WERE" members for over 40 years until recently. We typically frequented the Westerville Branch. Earlier this year during a visit I was asked to remove my ball cap. This was the 3rd visit that they requested my hat be removed. Although, I knew everyone by first name and they knew me by first name (and my kids) I was still asked to remove my ball cap. During one of these visits I noticed that there were (3) muslims waiting in line. (2) men with black sock hats on and a woman wearing a Hijab. Not one BMI employee asked them to remove there head wear. Finally, out of frustration I asked why I had to remove mine and was told because it had a bill. I understand a hat with a bill is hard for the cameras to determine who the potential robber might be. So, I requested a name from someone in HR to discuss my concern. Meanwhile, another male customer chimed in with me to complain. I left a voice mail for Sonja Johnson in HR and had my phone call returned after 24 hours. She had remembered me before from voicing my complaints. She actually recommended that if I want to wear my hat that maybe I should go through the drive thru window. Although, they wouldn't dare ask a woman with a Hajib to do so. She claimed that she would follow rules rather then deal with the hassle. Silence means consent in my vocabulary. It was COMPLETELY insulting to be asked this. I complained about discrimination and I requested a better explanation of the rule. So, After (5) working days I Finally received a phone call @ 4: 30 on a Friday from Mr. Allender, VP of HR. I would like to state that it is clearly obvious that HR screens their voice mails prior to returning calls so that they know how to approach the client. Your phone call will always go to voice mail. So, there was no coincidence I had a call from Mr. Allender late on Friday hoping I had cooled off. Mr. Allender stumbled thru his explanation of why the policy. Mr. Allender was clear in telling me that it is OK for a Muslim woman to wear a hajib but that my wife or any woman would be asked to remove a head scarf. What is the difference? They both show the same amount of face. This is truly Discrimination! BMI feels being politically correct is more important then insulting a 40 year member. So, My wife got the cold treatment from the Westerville branch when closing some accounts. I elected to close the balance of our accounts but had to wait multiple days to get MY money. When I complained about having to wait for my money I was told that they are not a bank but a credit union. If that is truly the case then why when I call BMI they announce themselves as "The Bank that Makes Banking Personal". Apparently, BMI is confused whether they are a bank or credit union. Frankly, they have made this personal which is why I am no longer a customer for BMI.

Been with the Credit Union for several years now. The service has been fantastic and responsive, and I find that they go above and beyond for their members. Personally I find their online banking and their MyFinance tool invaluable in my budgeting and planning. Great Credit Union.
