Step dad has not had a shower/ bath in 2 weeks. Communication is awful. Asked what room and nurse just pointed down a hall with no room number being stated. Staff threw away a pair of step-dads hearing aids that cost 6,000. Only a 3rd shift nurse was kind. She let my step dad use her cell.

Brookview is and has been one of the safest and caring nursing homes. I am relieved that I can trust the people who work there to take very good care of my mother who is 90 years old now. I trust them and so should you.

Poor communication skills and can't even be accurate on why he came there or as to why he was admitted and told the family false information. Always has an excuse for things and administrative lady agreed on the employes bad habits as to not notifying the families of things.

First of all - be aware of places whose positive comments come mainly from employees. We did not have experience with activities - between Covid and quarantine - so I cannot assess that part of the facility.

Physical therapists seem to be good and interested. Good meetings with the head, and good interaction with various therapists he had. Sometimes he had weekend therapy - sometimes not.

Food quality - minimal.
Nursing care - minimal (Professionalism sadly lacking in working with and communicating with family.)
Aide care - widely varied
Administration - take them with a grain of salt
Transportation - one offsite doctor office visit had been scheduled - transport not scheduled. One hour late for appointment.
In house doctor - Would like to somehow connect with spouse for appointment.
They seem to rotate aide staff during shifts - not sure what this accomplishes, especially during Covid - except to possibly expose more residents to different people.

Don't believe anything they tell you when you first meet with them. Consistency of care is vast. It seems to be the luck of the draw. LOTS of employees are "agency" (temporary) - funny how they seem to actually be the most caring! Since no one actually cared for the resident regularly, no one actually got to know him. VERY slow response to call button. Quite obviously understaffed.

Resident supposedly had a UTI. Discovered on Saturday - no medication to be given until Monday. Resident collected his own specimen (without help) - they left a bedpan for him to collect it over a period of time. I do not see how it could have been sanitary. - or a clean sample
They do not seem to be following Ohio guidelines that allow for outdoor visits. - Claim they are not allowed - yet the Ohio governor statement clearly outlines. Guess they just weren't interested enough to pursue.

LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM PORTION: They told us we could have window visits - THEY initiated opening the windows; even taking out screens so we could really visit. (We did NOT ask for this) We did however appreciate it very much. Then, 19 days in, they decided they could no longer do this, but rather than meeting with us to explain this, or communicate to us any type of change was needed - a nurse STORMED into the room with all kinds of accusations. (Really good for the residents anxiety! - not.) The next time we came and asked them to raise the blinds so we could talk via cell phone and see him, the aide did so, and then SHE opened the window. She was going to take the screen out and we asked her not to, as we realized there was definitely some lack of communication going on within the organization. We talked through the cracked open window. Then the next time we came were verbally accosted AGAIN by the nurse. It is stressful to go there to visit - it does not feel welcoming, but rather that some are actually setting up an adversarial relationship.

The building is VERY old - windows do not work well; employees did not know how to carefully open and close them - therefore, they stripped the gears and they became hard to open and close. We were told by the nurse that "they felt sorry for us" and "that some patients don't get any visitors at all" - I'm not sure how that was even relevant. Were we supposed to feel somehow privileged that we were allowed to visit? - or feel guilty that they decided after 19 days that we were somehow abusing the privilege? Again - VERY unprofessional behavior.

No one asks if he needs help with daily care activities. After 20 days he has not yet had a shower. Nothing more than a sponge bath nor has he had his hair washed. I wish the ratings allowed for a variation of staff - as I said PT was quite fine (3-4 stars). The rest were variable (1-3 stars). Activities - limited contact.

Most visits pleasant - GREATLY overshadowed by some who were curt and uncaring, and others who were outright unprofessional and adversarial. I would never go here again. And, if the stay were any more extended we would be looking for alternate facilities outside the county.

A great place to work. Caring and friendly staff, clean facility. I would recommend to anyone looking for a career. Our residents are the best. Friendly, caring and very compassionate about their caregivers and other residents. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for placement for their loved one.

Nurses and aides are very rude. We went to visit a friend and the nurses just stood, looking at us. When we walked up to the desk, a nurse said"Yeah? ". When we asked where the room was, she just pointed toward a hall and went back to talking to another nurse. No smiles, nothing. Maybe all the staff should be fired and replaced. Sure dont see how it got a great rating from news. Maybe staff voted numerous times?
