Burr Oak State Park Backpack Trail reviews
7Burr Oak is a great place for hiking with friends or by yourself! I wish I had a kayak because the lake is beautiful! The Lakeview trail starting at the dam has lovely lake views as advertised!
I backpacked the 22-mile loop four times and day hiked it once in 2020. It was my favorite backpacking destination in Ohio, but I have moved to Chattanooga. Reasons I like it:
- Distance and terrain are challenging but doable.
- Trail is fairly well marked, but there are a few sketchy places where you should utilize the Backpack Ohio trail description and/or keep your eyes peeled for the trail and yellow blazes. A GPS app would also work.
- The view of the lake is pleasant.
- Potable water in season at boat docks and park campground.
- Boat dock store is a great place to find a cold Coke on a hot day.
- Park camp has nice campsites and restrooms. You must have a reservation to camp here. The free option is Wildcat Hollow, which I did once but it creates a 14.5 -mile Day 2.
Awesome disc golf course, long and technical very well maintained and excellent direction sign to next tee pads
Our family, rented 5 cabins for a week. Our stay was pleasing, relaxing, and comforting. We have been staying here, very other year since 84. Its like home away from home.
Beautiful trail. Can't wait to go back out to see spring and fall seasons on this trail
Beautiful views alongside the lake side trail makes this hike a lot of fun. The trees are marked very clearly so you always know what path you are on. I only did 3 miles out on the trail and back and it was still fun.
