Calypso Grill and Smokehouse reviews
15We visited The Calypso today. Service was great, the restaurant was clean, and the food was pretty good. We didn't have any cocktails today but the ones we saw go out looked amazing. The staff was also willing to adjust the meal for our picky kid, which was very nice. We would go back!
The ox tail stew was delicious. Service was great. The atmosphere was fun. Jerk chicken was just a little dry. Would definitely come back again.
Delicious shrimp and chorizo with coconut rice and well-charred plantains! You don't get flavors like this most places, and I love they have plenty of gluten-free options.
Love this place. I have run the menu with no complaints on flavors. They havea full bar with craft beers, local coffee, and on-site sodas. Friendly wait staff is knowledgeable about menu offerings.
Mighty fine food. Recommend. Yummy plantains, fabulous brisket, and good cole slaw. Our water glasses never went empty.
The only issue I had was some very crunchy rice but other than that the food was great and the staff was very nice. Lots of vegan/gluten free options that are marked clearly on the menu.
Heard great things about this small local place in Yellow Springs. The service was good. We ordered 1. Corn fritters (4/5) - were a bit chewy for my taste. I like them a bit more crunchy. 2. Shrimp pup-a-Lickle (4/5) - the same batter as corn fritters. The shrimp was great. Got the yuca fries and plantains as my sides. The yuca fries were amazing. The plantains needs to be a bit sweeter. 3. The jerk chicken (4/5) - the chicken was spicy and cooked well. Needed a bit more jerk flavor. I haven’t tried their BBQ though.
Visited Saturday, 9/9/23 for lunch. Yes, many items are marked gf. I ordered the Calypso Lunch Bowl with Jerk Chicken. I specified I was celiac and they wrote that on their ticket.they assured me it would not be cross contaminated.
Our table was appalled by the clothing of one of the waitresses, half or more of breasts exposed, tight leopard pants on a quite hefty body. If she had waited on us, we would have left. GROSS!
The food was mediocre and the 6 others with me were not caring for their food either. Much food left on the plate. I started getting ill within 2 hours and haven't recovered yet on 9/11/23. The menu and restaurant looked like a great place to eat.now I know why we were the only customers there. I used the Find me GF app to choose Calypso.but it failed me this time.
We were early in the dinner wave so seating was immediate and service was fast. We intentionally ordered a ton of food knowing leftovers would be fine. There were many drinks on the menu we still want to try, as well as other food. Flavors are what you would expect in the carribean. My husband felt like one of his dishes, I forgot which one, lacked salt, but all the other dishes made up for it. The spice level is low, even what they call "hot", I think that's typical. I didn't need the yuca fries since my meal came with plantains and slaw, but I couldn't pass them up and glad I didn't!
This place is worth repeating and if you haven't yet DO give it a chance!
Stopped in to get a quick bite. The staff was very friendly, helpful, efficient. I was having a low glucose moment and they got the food out fast. It had great flavor and was very satisfying. I didn't even look at the cost until the bill came. I was shocked that it was so economical. Great value. I will definitely stop there again.
Excellent Jamaican restaurant in rural Ohio. Shrimp Pupa-Lickie appetizer and Jerk Pork entre with Key Lime Pie for dessert. Oh yes, and a pitcher of margaritas too.
This is the spot! Everything was amazing, we ordered the pork belly, jerk chicken, strawberry ghost margherita, coconut martini, and chocolate rum cake
Not what it was. We came here when it first opened, the food was great. Today, not so much. Flavorless slaw, flavorless salad with unimpressive shrimp, flavorless soup. Shouldn’t need to add salt to make the flavor myself. However, the wings are some of the best I’ve ever had. Truly fall off the bone and excellent flavor even without the side sauce- which is also good.
The food was Amazing! The drinks were delish.everything here is fresh and so yummy. It is a treasure in our area. We love it! Ohh and try the key lime pie and chocolate coconut mouse.
