After a 14-month battle courageous with cancer my uncle was called home to be in the presence of the Lord. My aunt in a tremendous amount of grief unfortunately entrusted his final services to Diehl-Whittaker. Planning the service was difficult and problematic from the start as we were told that we could only have ten people present at the service. Unfortunately, because money had already been spent, we could not have his body moved to another provider such as Marlan J. Gary and the Chapel of Peace. Despite our better judgement we proceeded to finalize the arrangements and make the best of an extremely difficult situation. Things only went downhill from there……………………. Because we were limited to ten people due to the pandemic we decided to have a wake the day before the funeral so that friends and family could pay their final respects. Opting to do this cost our family an additional $900. Diehl-Whittaker’s chapel has the capacity to hold at least one-hundred people, so we are still not quite sure why we were limited to ten as the space permits social distancing for at least fifty. August 13th, the day of the wake things went from bad to worst. Ingrid Diehl is one of the rudest and most disrespectful people I have ever encountered. Not only was she extremely disrespectful she was belittling in her tone and approach when dealing with my family. This was extremely disheartening as we paid almost $13K for services. We hired her and her team for services, courtesy, respect, compassion, and sympathy during one of the most difficult times in our lives. Our grief was compounded by Ingrid and her team due to their rude demeanor and lack of sensitivity. There is no reason why I should have had to call out her rude and disrespectful behaviors and actions during our final goodbyes to a cherished family member. INGRID DIEHL, IF YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF PROVIDING RESPECT, COMPASSION AND SYMPATHY TO GRIEVING FAMILIES PLEASE FIND ANOTHER PROFESSION. Please understand that you are in business because people seek your services. You ARE NOT the only black owned funeral home in Columbus, Ohio. My family and I WILL NOT be utilizing your services moving forward. Ingrid, I know these people are nothing more than a paycheck to you, but please understand that this is someone’s husband, son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend etc. I hope that you and your team do some reflection and make some changes moving forward.

We have had a number of family members have their final arrangements done by Diehl Whittaker over the past decade or longer. I know that the COVID-19 situation has called for many changes and adjustments to have to be made, but I feel like their lack of flexibility during this time has been over the top, especially considering how some of the other funeral homes in the city are handling things during this same pandemic. I hope people are aware of all the restrictions being enforced by them right now before considering them to handling your loved ones final arrangements

The staff was very pleasent and the facility is very nice. They have several price options available to all levels of income.

I was given my Father's ashes and in the urn and outside of the urn it had someone else's name on it and in it. I don't even know if this is my Dad's ashes.

WORST PLACE EVER! They do not care what your going through. They will make it to the point you can not have a open casket. They lie straight to your face. Money is all they care about.

This was my second time having to plan a service here within five months. The first was a cremation & the second was a service held on site. The young lady that assisted my family for the second service was awesome, compassionate & very knowledgeable. I was very pleased. For me she redeemed the problems from the first experience.

Although my experience was a couple of years ago. As we come upon an anniversary of my Fathers Death, I felt that I was past due on sharing my experience. The owner was unsympathetic and only cared about the money. He even rubbed his fingers together at me before my Fathers wake, stating don't forget to make the payment. That was the last thing I ever expected anyone to do to me in my time of grieving. He even threatened my Aunt that he will hold the body of my Father unless he gets his money. I will NEVER utilize this business again and have been encouraging others not to also. I understand payment is required to do business, but they way the situation was handled was very rude and unprofessional, especially when a payment was pretty much guaranteed through an insurance policy. This situation was very unfortunate as this was a business my Family has used for years, but that has since ended and now use another company.

I sincerely want to thank Diehl-Whittaker, especially (Ms. Engrid Diehl) for the professional business manner she assisted me and my family with understanding the funeral process and the cost associated with it. God bless Deihl-Whittaker and the staff for all of the sincere personal care / support that was shown to us during our time of bereavement of my son's homegoing. If anyone were to ask me about Diehl-Whittaker funeral home services, I'd say; they are not just in business for profit, but that they exemplify a true commitment and sincere respect / love for the families and communities they serve. " DIEHL-WHITTAKER IS THE REAL DEAL "

I feel the service I attempted to receive from this company was very poor during the time of my mothers passing. I was being over charged and told different pricing several times by the same person. I then contacted another local funeral service that was able to do the same request for less. I feel Mrs. Engred was just trying to prey on my lack of knowledge of the process and wanting to do what's right for my mother. I was wanting to transport my mother to a different state to have her service and another funeral home was to come and pick her up, she had informed that Ohio had to do the embalming and prepare her which I had come to find out that was false I just needed a funeral home that was willing to sign the death certificate and accept the body. She also informed that If she accepted the body it would be a hold and transport of remain fee, up to five days and after five days additional days will be accessed. The prices that was quoted just for the mileage alone was not as friendly and welcomed as they would like you to believe. The amount quoted for my mothers service to not have it here with this company was way less and affordable elsewhere. The sad part about it is my mother used this funeral home for my step father during his passing and we thought we try again.
