Fort Laurens Museum reviews
7Called in advance to verify they were open since we are driving from a pretty far distance. We get there and everything is closed, we called to see if somebody was just on break. They had pulled the staff to a different location and It was the last weekend the fort was open for the year. So it was a wasted trip
It is a beautiful and serene moment from our state's history. Fort Laurens is one of my favorite places.
Neat historic experience just outside of Downtown Bolivar. Great walking/biking trails near by with good local restaurants and camping.
This is a great stop. So much history that you did not learn in school. The gentleman that helped us was Tanner. He was so knowledgeable and personable it was truly amazing. Thank you for all the help you gave us. We appreciate you and your expertise! Looking forward to coming back soon!
Nice museum covering local history during the American Revolutionary War, only Tomb of the Unknown American Revolutionary War Soldier. It is unfortunate the management of the site now holds a beer/food/music festival on the grounds which is very disrespectful to the soldiers that lived, fought, died and are buried here.
This is a very nice walking path. This time of year most of the leaves have fallen off the trees, and the ones that are still hanging on are interesting and vibrant.with the unusually warm weather that we're having currently.
Lots of khaki pink and red colors litter the whole area.
I didn't see much of any wildlife except for squirrels, and a few chipmunks, but you will get to see equestrians on horseback frequenting this path.
I was sad to see that somebody decided to dump a bunch of automotive tires off of the 83 towpath road into the park. You'll find a photo of them in this lot of pictures.
They were a lot of people out there walking today and I got a photo with some random strangers that said they've been on the towpath nearly all day. That's also pictured
It was a good close your weekend and I did a little over 6 mi walking his path, but you can go further if you want. I just didn't want to be caught out in the woods after the sun went down
Quick shout out to Smithsonian Museum Day for sponsoring families to visit museums around the country. Much like Fort Laurens for my family!
There is a small theater in the center of the museum, that gives a good breakdown of the who, what, when, where and why of Fort Laurens. The artifacts and preservation of them is done tastefully and is easy to read and understand. While some it is a little dated it's not horribly so that it distracts from the point of the place. For families with small kids.they're going to be bored. Period. For kids about 6th grade and higher I would say they would like it. The entire museum can be enjoyed in just over an hour or less if you have little kids to chase.
