Frank Lloyd Wright's Westcott House reviews
13You have to pre-register for tour and it does not open until 1pm. The house is great, just wish we had known this before we drove here
One of the best Frank Lloyd Wright tours we have ever taken. The house has been beautifully restored to its original greatness. A must stop for all FLW fans
I highly recommend visiting one of the best architectural designs of Frank Lloyd Wright. It was stunning how the renovations took place for all to continue valuing.
Ohio’s only example of Frank Lloyd Wright’s take on the Prairie style home! Rediscovered in fabulous disrepair and meticulously restored, you’ll love joining the tour and learning not only about the importance and impact of America’s Greatest Architect, but also the forward thinking family that commissioned him, and the great history of Springfield, Ohio!
Tours were sold out the day my sister and I went to visit this house. Upon arrival, we were perusing the gift shop and the woman there asked if my sister and I wanted to join the last tour as it had just started. The docent conducting the tour was more than happy to accommodate us! What a thrilling and wonderful surprise. Because the furniture was mostly reproductions, we were able to not only photograph the inside of the house but touch items as well. We had a wonderful time and want to thank the docent and the gift shop employee who helped us. I wish I could remember their names, but the docent was the best docent I've run into touring FLW built homes.
The tour was absolutely awful. The guide refused to let us look around the house. The first 1.5 hours of the tour, all took place outside. When we were finally allowed in the house, we had to stand in one room for almost 20-30 minutes, without looking at others. The guide openly gave his opinions versus factual information about the house. The way that he spoke about women and immigrants, made it clear that he didn’t like either. The whole tour took almost 3 hours, when the website said 1.5. I would love to go back, and tour with literally any other guide.
Very interesting tour. Enjoyed learning about the history of the architect as well as the family who owned the house. Must see!
We've visited a few FLW buildings, and while this wasn't the greatest, it was certainly worthwhile. The restoration story is amazing, our guide (wish we could remember his name!) was very knowledgeable and interesting. Best part was being allowed to sit on the chairs! They've done an incredible job recreating this home, so we recommend this for FLW enthusiasts. The lack of interior furnishings was a little disappointing, but sitting at the fireplace made up for it.
This is a must see. The Springfield Ohio community rescued this house from being torn down and did a complete and faithful restoration. The house and grounds are stunning.
Informative small-group tour in a thoroughly renovated frank Lloyd wright early house. Furniture are newly built but with a design accurate for the period. Very well stocked gift shop including motawi tiles and teco revival vases. If you're in the area it's worth it, but do make a reservation for the tour.
When I was working construction the contractor i was pleasured to learn from my mentor and I wanted to be a part of the only other Frank Lloyd wright house in town before I was going to move to lumber sales. I wasn't just taught by the best i was tested by the best of all time to design organic architecture and my mentor was making me into a artistic master carpenter and it would take everything everyone has to build a house with FLWs style. So the Westcot house has its own place and story of the historical legend of FLW and I highly recommend the best of rating for all the reviews i have done of course I have to say this is a must go to rating and make sure you visit the Westcot house.
Beautiful example of Frank Loyd Wright architecture. You can definitely see the Japanese influence. Amazing that this home was built in the early 20th century considering how modern it looks. History worth preserving. The tour guide and folks that worked there were super friendly and knowledgeable. Amazing that this exists in Springfield of all places, definitely worth the visit!
A very interesting tour. You got to see the entire house. A unique part of this tour, is a lot of the furniture is reproduction, so there were times when you were allowed to sit in the furniture to see from that perspective. For example, our tour group and guide all sat in the living room furniture and discussed the social events at the house.
