Liberty Township/Powell YMCA - YMCA of Central Ohio

This was our first time coming to any YMCA. Right off the bat the lifeguard was pretty aggressive as he jumped from his seat to inform us of the rules. Every 5 minutes he was yelling for us to be closer to the kids (within an arms reach). My kids are 5 and 8. My 5 year old was attached to my hip the whole time. However my son wanted to do his own thing. Once a new lifeguard was in the seat, the male lifeguard was STILL watching us from inside. After the 5-6th time of getting yelled at I finally said something to this lifeguard. He threatened me with his manager, told us we were more than welcome to leave. So when we decide to leave, he disappeared. He finally approached us and told us not to tell him how to do his job, rules are rules and if we don't follow them we have to leave. I honestly felt harassed at this point. I will be reaching out to Savannah to get a refund for my membership. Very uptight and upsetting experience.

Danny the lifeguard has kids take a more exacting swim test then the y policy mandates so he can disqualify them.

So my honest review. All the staff here is amazing except for one lifeguard, Danny. He's awful. Be prepared to have the whistle blown 150 time within 5 minutes. Don't even think about fast walking because you'll get the whistle blown at you. Sam, Mary, devin and everyone else though are superb! The only reason I won't be coming back here is because of Danny and his pettiness. No other pool around here will act like that. Sorry powell ymca but he's got to go!

This Liberty Twp Y is cleaner and better managed than the other one I go to. Liberty also has personal trainers, (the other one can't seem to find any to hire?), which is why I drive 50 min to go there twice a week. Staff are friendly and upbeat; the other Y, they're older, sitting in front of computers, and they're nice, but not outgoing and upbeat like they are at Liberty. I would make this my "home" Y if it weren't so far away!

We have been very happy with YMCA, but not today because of the lifeguard named Danny. He is very rude and ruined our time at YMCA. We have been swimming at YMCA, and so has my son who has his green wristband which allows him to swim in the lanes. We never had any problems. Today we went to swimming from 11am- 12 pm. This DANNY told us that my son needed to be re-evaluated and all swimmers with all central Ohio YMCAs who got evaluated in the past need to be reevaluated, which is a new rule starting on this Monday, but later we confirmed with YMCA that there is no such new rule. Another super nice staff who works at the front desk helped us and communicated with him. Danny still insisted that my son should not use the lanes with no reasons. He even said that he would ask me to leave multiple times. He is not only rude, but also a liar. Before we were pretty sure that we would love to renew our membership because my son enjoys swimming in their pool but now we will have to reconsider if we are going to or not. Sorry YMCA! This Danny guy certainly has to go!

I work all day I don't have time to take my kids to do activities I started going to the gym precisely because of the pool but every day I get here they ask the kids to leave the pool because there is no lifeguard and usually there are at least about 5.very disappointed!

I've never seen a YMCA this nice before this one and the one in Delaware are really nice. Equipment is all in good shape and there's a lot to do. My teenager likes to hang here with her friends and it's a nice place to get a workout in for people of all ages.

Really poor staffing and if you can’t keep staff levels to a point where the members who pay (even through COVID) can’t use the amenities why charge what you charge. Absolutely ridiculous!

Equipment that I use is old and in poor shape. Kids are fine, but they are totally unsupervised, taking pictures in the locker room, and hoarding equipment.

Sauna does not get hot at all. Management is aware but said their computer says 120 degrees.
Very overcrowded as well.

Went to try this facility specifically for winter swimming for my 10&12 kids. Just okay. Very small area not occupied by lap lanes. Slide shown in pics is dismantled. Front desk said there hasn’t been a slide for “a long time”. The only open swimming area for kids is the former splash down area for the slide. Disappointing. No area appropriate for young swimmers like I’ve seen at other YMCAs.

Everything a community fitness-focused center should be. Good equipment and layout, nice people. Friendly atmosphere. Would be nicer if they had a bit more space in the gym.

This is a great facility. We use the child watch regularly there. The kids love going there and the staff is super nice

I wanted to sign up for a family membership in YMCA Powell. I used a one day pass to live the experience before I decide to join. I liked the place, very warm and clean. Also, the reception was very nice to me. The only thing that really annoyed me and made me decide to NOT sign up for the membership is, one rude lifeguard at the pool area. Most of the lifeguards were kind but the one with eyeglasses and ponytail was really rude and aggressive. He kept yelling at the kids all the time and he kept whistling in a crazy way every single minute. I went to this place to relax and have fun with my kids not to make my kids cry and I get a heart attack from this sudden whistling every second. Disappointed

Equipment and overall condition of the gym is good, including the staff.but be ready for huge wait times on equipment.apparently people here don’t realize that 20-30 minutes on a machine is too long.

Recently updated in the last couple years, with a great training area with everything you need, great pool, members are always great to get to know and the staff make an effort to really know your name and get to know you.

Enjoyed my membership here immensely. They always had a variety of classes and even offered childcare. I took as many classes as I could. It was a wonderful resource for the community. Yoga, aquatics, Pilates, so many different classes in addition to the workout space.

I’ve been trying to schedule an appointment for my mother. I left FOUR messages over the span of a week. They do not return calls even though they indicate the next business day. It’s almost as though they would rather just not take inpatients!

I didn’t have the best first experience (a 2nd raised my eyebrow), but overall the location has gotten much better.

Good place, with decent exercise equipment. Offers classes. Plenty of exercise options, clean.
