Oak Openings Preserve Metropark reviews
19Came for the mountain bike trails! Amazing place! We had such an enjoyable visit. The treehouses are so cool. Wish they allowed campers at the campground but we stayed down the road at Mary Jane Thurston and had a nice time. Will be back!
A nice urban metro park with very cute camping site. The facilities were all clean and I would definitely visit again if I lived closer.
I've been enjoying this park since we moved to Toledo when I was almost 9 years old. This Metropark is so nice it could be a state park. Indeed, we have state parks here in mid-Michigan that aren't as nice. I come back a couple of times a year to ride the bike trails in and around the park. And to the guy who told me "This isn't the bike trail" as we crossed paths, you passed a sign just 50 feet or so that clearly had the bike trail stick figure sign on it. Also, if you're going to hike on the shared bike trail, at least follow basic bike trail rules and pay attention when someone comes up behind you and says, "On your left. "
My dog and I love the park! Been going there since I was a kid. We're very lucky to have such an awesome park so near home.
The seasons are changing. The trees are absolutely beautiful in their fall colors. Oak Openings Preserve is a gem in North West Ohio. Only minutes from downtown Toledo. It is beautiful any season.
Beautiful paths through the preserve that are easy to access and give you different natural aspects of the area to experience. Definitely will be back and highly recommend!
What a beautiful and expansive park. So many different enviroments and trails to see. Fishing access, a playground, covered shelters. If you need some green time I would gladly recommend Oak Openings.
Mountain biking trails are super fun! They're flat and windy but there are TONS of really great features off to the sides if you're looking for them. This was a really fun trail network. Also, the skills area was super fun.
Typical flat topography of the area makes for an easy road bike ride. Not too congested. I think the dirt trails are more enjoyable than the bike path
Very quiet during the week. Great to just sit, relax and de-stress from the insane drivers in Lucas County and the idiocy of cloth diapers for the face.
Clean, nice park for babies and young children, air conditioned bird watching area near by and lots of picnic tables around the water.
Nice place to visit, have everything for walking, hiking, bicycle, fishing and more things. Many routes, excellent views.
Northwest Ohio is blessed to have this natural park to explore nature. There is so much to see expected and unexpected. The variety of butterflies ; the beautiful lakes and unlimited trees bring like to this magical space.
They have a bike trail that leads to a trail that goes to the side cut metro park and back. They have a play park for kids with swings and a fun roller line swing. Its a swing you can ride on that hangs from a steel roller from one side to another and back. Its like a zip line ride. I am almost 60 and I still like to play on the swings. Right now the roller swing is under repair. It should come back though.
Went to the Outlook on Wildlife first, very cool and they took precautions to keep from spreading a harmful disease to wildlife that would be there. Then we walked around a beautiful little pond/lake boutique a half mile walk. Wonderful view view and beatiful little bridges. Then we went to the playground and the kids had a blast! Lots of little things set up to enjoy, not your run of the mill boring set up in anyway.
We just purchased new E Bikes and wanted to do a long ride to test them out. It was our first time on that trail. Started at Whitehouse went east to the end where it meets the Walbash Cannonball Trail and turned left to Oak Openings. It was a really nice ride and the scenery was different. Ready to do it again.
Oak Openings is an amazing metro park. I thoroughly enjoyed each time I have backpacked there. The trails are well maintained, campsites are very nice, the park has very good signage and is easy to navigate. I can't wait to try a backpack/mountain bike weekend.
Always a pleasure, definitely the best metro-park in the area!
Whether youre into fishing, camping, hiking or biking you'll have a great time at this park!
The campsite itself was nice. But there were a couple of things that made resting on our road trip a bit difficult. You heard planes roaring overhead all night and day long. We heard sirens twice right by us seemingly from the emergency vehicle trail. You have to park in the central parking lot and lug all your head to the site and cannot park at your site itself. Also, we woke up at 8 am to the sounds of construction work. The playground is also under construction if you have kids, fyi.
But the area is great for bird watching, the mushrooms are very diverse, and the road was well paved. So, I'm sure it's not as bad once construction is over.
