OHIO Museum Complex and Kennedy Museum of Art reviews
15A diverse collection of art. From photographs to sculptures. Even a hand made quilt from 1907. The history of the building makes the trip even more worthwhile.
It was sadly closed when we came to check it out due to winter break but it looked cool from the outside. I got a sweat picture of this statue outside.
Such an interesting place to take in. Art museum, trails, history and so much more packed into this gem. The architecture and trails alone have brought me back here many times to explore!
Love this place! The architecture style of the old building and the size is amazing. The museum part is really nice. All beautiful artwork and interactive. My 15 yr old daughter and I both enjoyed it eminently. We spent over and hour just walking around inside and outside. Would have loved to see more of the inside of the old Lunatic Asylum.
The exhibits were lovely. I found striking and haunting beauty in the asylum photography. I wish more of the building could be open for asylum tours, but a lot of restoration is going on for new exhibit rooms
This place was cool and I liked learning about new things. I liked the interactive few parts of the exhibit and although it’s sorta small, there was variety in the exhibits! I wish there were more rooms to explore but overall it was a great experience and definitely worth going. It’s free to get in, you have to pay for parking which isn’t terrible considering it’s free admission!
An absolute must see if you have some free time in Athens. The exhibit itself is not the biggest but one cannot complain when admission is free. For the exhibit that is there it was laid out well and fun to experience. Out side of the exhibit and museum, which has been remodeled, the building itself is rich with history and beautiful architecture. This place is definitely on out lists of stops everytime we are in Athens.
A serene and peaceful museum with several exhibits tp see. Masks were required for health safety. A nice variety of Art meets history in its rooms. Front desk personnel very kind and informative.
A wonderful space but so very little of it is restored and available for exhibits. However because its free parking a no entrance fee, it is well worth the visit when passing through.
Such a fun and unique experience! My wife and I are from Parkersburg and always stop here while we’re in Athens to visit the new exhibits!
Years ago was the mental hospital. Lot of family retired from there. Ohio university is renovating alot of the buildings. Very nice
I love that this is in the old asylum. It has a very interesting vibe. I wish the displays had a bit more to do with the history of the asylum or psychology in general. The displays are all kind of random and non-topical but still enjoyable. They do have a bit of a section up front on the right after entering that has some stuff on display about the building itself. I liked that.
I love going here when exhibits change, a few times per year. It's in my favorite place on campus for an afternoon out.
I visited the Kennedy Museum of Art while visiting Athens, Ohio from Cincinnati with my fianée for Thanksgiving. My fiancée's mother, who lives in Athens, took us to the museum on our first day in town. I loved the museum's layout and was absolutely giddy walking through the special exhibition of "collections. " So, cool. I was also fascinated to learn the history of the location (a former asylum). I only hope the museum continues to grow and add more exhibits in the near future.
Wonderful exhibits in a fascinating location at the historical site The Ridges, also known as the Athens Asylum
