They said if my flight was delayed they would wait for me to get me a car either way my flight was delayed they would not help me laughed at me and left me stranded

It took longer to get the car than the flight. No sense of urgency. 25 people in with one slow worker.

Not clear on what is needed when you check in. Waited in line for an hour for a vehicle that was prepaid just to be turned away because they have an archaic software system. Livid at this point is an understatement.

Be warned. They charged me an additional day because I dropped the car off 30 mins late. I picked it up at 2: 11 and ran into a little traffic and dropped it back off at 2: 43pm. That's 32 mins and I was charged an additional full day. Never had this happen with any other rental company.

Bad customer service; two employees at the counter for Budget, Avis, and Payless had to wait 90 minutes to get a rental I prepaid for. Someone was in the assigned car slot, the attendant (lot) (extremely rude - lady) was able to get me another car. All the staff (counter, parking lot, check out, and returns) were rude and did not seem enthusiastic about their job—just an unpleasant experience.

We paid for an EZ-Pass to have our tolls paid for and managed, but they forgot to install the EZ-Pass device.

I called support to inquire if there should have been an EZ-Pass device only to be told, "Everything is fine with your rental - good-bye. " They immediately dropped me back into the call waiting queue, and I waited twice again before being told that an EZ-Pass should have been installed.

I'm still not sure how that was supposed to work as the agents I spoke to didn't seem too sure themselves. I'm supposed to open a dispute to resolve the matter, and I'm irritated it's even a dispute to begin with.

Additionally, a lot of trash was left in our rental - a whole stack of receipts, lollipop sticks, and Starbucks cup fragments.

If you're going with these guys to save a buck, you're paying for it in frustration.

I wanted to take the time to post this because I was very nervous about renting from Payless after reading from others. I have had a GREAT experience. The vehicle is extremely clean and exactly what I requested.

This was the worse car rental. The car looked like it had been in an accident… it was dirty and still had the previous renters information in it.

Picked up my car at Columbus, OH airport, kept it for 6 days, returned it to Avis at the airport in Detroit, MI. After reading all the terrible reviews about Payless, I was hesitant. I called the Payless customer service line to be sure that a real person would answer and asked about why their reviews are so bad. He shared that most people don't realize they have to put another $250 on hold, and they don't document any damage to the car BEFORE taking it. I thought to myself, "Okay - I can handle that much. " Since my rental was about half the average price (everyone else wanted $900-1400 for a one-way rental), I prayed about it and reserved the rental in faith. First thing I realized was a problem (while I was at my home airport) was that I had not brought along the same credit card I used to rent the car (it was right there on the paperwork, to be fair). I called the customer service number and got a woman (Lora or Nora?) who gladly had me purchase the new rental on the card I did have with me and then canceled the other one. As it turns out, it was all the same rate. But I thought, "Oh no - now I have to see if they actually give me the refund for the first reservation. " But I checked my statement later and was happy to find they had refunded me the same day. Everything went fine for the six days that I had the vehicle. In fact, I paid for a full-sized sedan and got upgraded to a full-size SUV (supply thing, I guess? I just smiled and gladly took it.) Throughout the week, I had a lot of people in the car with me, and some of them spilled chips and such in the car. I was afraid Payless would charge me for it when I returned it to Avis, but it was cold and I didn't know where I was and I wasn't going to go try to find a carwash in an unfamiliar area. I thought, "Oh, no. This is where they're gonna stick it to me. " But nothing like that happened. A few minutes after I returned the car, I received an "updated" receipt showing that the car was checked in and all was settled. It was the same as any other car rental in my experience.

Wait in line for 20 minutes. Take 20 minutes to checkout with the clerk. Waiting for them to pull the car around another 20 minutes…and still waiting…

Had a great experience picking up the car. The customer service person was friendly and very helpful. THEN, I had to extend my reservation…, Called customer service. The first guy was talking to me from his car, I could hear the background noise. I’m all for remote working but come on…. He wasn’t paying attention to me and was getting distracted mid sentence. I hung up on him and called back and it was worse. This guy acted like he was in something. First time using Payless and had a terrible experience. Oh and to extend “one more day” was over $160. Never again!

Mile long line with only 2 people working 3 companies. Took an hour and a half to get a car and it seemed like they were about to run out. Never using Payless again in Columbus.
