Slyman's Tavern Independence reviews
20The sandwich and service was good, but the amount of meat in the sandwich did not live up to the downtown location.
We ordered their biggest corned beef sandwich, when we got it, it looked like a kids meal, we asked the waitress why were they so small and she said well the gentleman in the back is a little behind so that's how he's making them, about 10 minutes later the table next to us got their sandwiches and they were about three times the size of ours, I think if you're going to charge $18 a sandwich you should at least make it consistent for everybody, in my opinion the place is a rip off, stay far far away from it.
Yummmmm! It was delicious, great selection of beers on tap, if you like corned beef. It is definitely worth a stop.
After sitting down at a dirty lopsided table we ordered corned beef and latkes: beware it is lean shaved corned beef on two very very crisp potato pancakes. After very excitedly (expressing I did not know what that was) I was told that's they way they serve it I told him the menu should have explained that option
I also told the server who also cleaned the table (who also said it was not her fault as if I was personally blaming her) that I wanted the sliced corn beef as if it was an odd request. Then another Mgr comes back and asks me what is wrong and I told her again not as excitedly what was wrong. Then the main host or manager comes by and tells me not to yell at their staff and they can publish their menu any way they want to and perhaps there is nothing they can do to please me. His aggressive, patronizing tone told me that either their staff has emotional problems
or they really don't care. Well after he left I said something to my husband only and he doubled back and told me we could leave. So if you want to take your chances at traditional recipes and make sure the sensitive staff doesn't have a fit don't go there. No one says hello or smiled and now I know why

Beware they might throw you out too!
I only went because my mom loves the cod fish.and for the prices the food could've been better. I got a drink it's was good. Just wasn't impressed with the food
Have come here a few times for Sunday brunch. The corned beef hash and bottomless mimosas are a good pairing.
Service was lackluster, food was lukewarm and under seasoned. Wasn't horrible but wont return.
Alliyah was amazing! She is one, if not the main reason we will be back. Phenomenal food and service. This restaurant truly gets it right. As we just moved to the area we are so grateful to know that we have a place to frequent regularly for personal and business meals. An absolutely wonderful experience. Thank you so much!
First time ordering from Slyman’s in downtown Cleveland. My bf talks about it all the time. THE BEST REUBEN SANDWICH EVER! A little pricey but—the sandwich is HUGE, the corn beef melts in your mouth, it’s grilled to perfection.and it is absolutely worth it. Don’t forget to get some of their homemade potato salad. It is delicious and I just added salt. I am very picky about potato salad and finally found one I like besides my Mom’s. I need the recipe and how you get the corn beef so tender. Everyone needs to get this legendary sandwich from Slyman’s! ️️️️️
Good sandwich.rest of experience yikes.freezing inside and got sick off something I had.only know that cause I took the sandwich home.after apps and a drink experience left us wanting to leave
A recent trip up to Cleveland on 10-14-21 I had to make a stop in Independence for a to go order on my way back home to Warren. Awesome as always and these sandwiches travel very well.lol. And to whoever picked up my tab you can't imagine how I felt. <3
Nice place. Sat at the bar with what appeared to be regulars. The bartender was nice. Didn't realize they had outlets in front of us until after we were leaving. The corned beef was good.
Not worth it! We were hoping to it the same quality of sandwich es as at original deli but it doesn't compare.
Me n my husband walked in and ordered take out we order the Slyman Fries an Light Corned Beef the Sandwich was huge i would love to see what the other size look like the fries was the right size not to big or small we definitely will be back for more food and drinks
P.s the homemade cookies where
I've never had a bad experience here and I've been going here since their first week of opening (before they had the 3 stooges set up outside the serving window!). I've been quickly seated every time, staff has been friendly and which prices have slowly risen, the quality has always been there. Even on saint Patrick's day I've been seated quickly!
I moved to Savannah, GA. Been here nearly 20 years. I have not found any restaurant here that compares to Slyman's corned beef sandwich. When in Cleveland I always go to slyman's, I it.
I hit one star, Only because they Do not offerAnything less than one star. The fish was not cooked in my fish sandwich. And my wife's food was cold.
They say their slyman.s but they try to imitate the one on st clair. If you want a real good corned beef. Go downtown.
Service was terrible.last time i dined there i ordered the corned beef fries and they were great.but fast forward to 9/19/2021 and it was awful …fries greasy with ground corned beef and cheese sauce.sandwiches seemed to be imitation beef …it was my wife’s birthday and we traveled from va for Browns game.and the free dessert for her birthday was imitation strawberry. Not the SLYMANS i grew up with in Cleveland…just terrible
It's Slyman's what can you great great corned beef. Seemed a little bit more pricey than in the past, but to be expected with all the closures because of Co-vid. Our server was very attentive and friendly.
