After starting a project to fix my old bike reached the limits of my technical abilities, my wife offered to take it to a professional shop and get it tuned up as a Father's Day present. I agreed and mentioned Spoke Life, given its proximity to our home and positive word of mouth. I was SHOCKED when she texted that service on the bike was a $200 quote at first glance. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but the only thing needed for my bicycle to be road worthy was a derailleur adjustment and some new cables, which my wife explained. She also mentioned the origin of my bike, and this is where my issue lies.

Purchased in 2010 from Toledo Bikes, a local nonprofit dedicated to recycling used bicycles, this FrankenBike served me well through the years. A $50 purchase off Craigslist to get me around college and light exercise on the weekends was a smooth ride.

Now, 13 years later, I try my hand at bike repair. I stripped the paint and purchased all new parts. I just wanted a safe ride to bike with my wife and kids. I'll admit I was out of my depths, and no amount of YouTube could put humpty dumpty back together again, but I gave it a good go. I just couldn't get the shifter and the derailleur to work together.

So, after the knowledge that this bike came from Toledo Bikes! The person assisting her shared their unsoliced opinions about the organization, and told her that the repair was more than the bike was worth. Again, she was given a $200 quote for what ended up being some new cables and a derailleur adjustment.

I'm happy to report that the repair was, in fact, cheaper than the price of my old bike. Reggie's Bike Shop took care of me for a whooping $36.

I came in wanting to have my vintage bike's bearings serviced as parts are difficult to come by and I was having trouble gathering information on how to do it myself online.

While I wasn't able to have the bearings serviced in-store (which is completely understandable for such an old bike), everyone was very helpful and friendly, and even recommended a mechanic that would be able to have it serviced at. I will certainly be returning to this shop if I need anything for my bike.

They refuse service to any bike they do not sell. Right on your website it says you will service any bike from any manufacture. I came in asking to get my brakes replaced and they told me they would not even do a basic brake job on a bike they did not sell. The owner told me he doesn’t believe anyone in the area even works on my brand bike (Lectric XP 2.0). So I made some calls. The first shop I called took it in and are currently working on it. If you can’t do brakes on a bike, you’re not a repair shop. I wasted a trip and your website does not accurately describe your shop.
