81 Year old Mr. Starr is the bee’s knees hands down, and is one of the greatest elderly people I have ever done business with. He’s been in business 50 years and is still going strong with a passion for what he does. My experience did not go completely smooth because of the other family involved in the business, but Mr. Starr knows how to operate his business and does it with integrity.
Our story; My son had been looking for a Chevy Colorado in his price range for over a year, and spotted one that Starr’s used Cars put on the web the same day it was posted. I called about it the very next day (Saturday) and spoke to an older lady (Mrs. Starr) who didn’t know much about the truck, but assured me someone would call me at 9AM Monday morning. I explained that we wanted it, but due to being in eastern Pennsylvania it was a process to get there. I was going to take 2 vacation days from work, I would withdraw the cash from the bank on Monday and make the 5-hour drive to be at Starr’s Used Cars on Tuesday planning to be there at 9am Tuesday morning. She said ok and someone would call me Monday morning to answer my transit tag and vehicle specific questions. At 3pm Monday nobody had called yet and I decided to call back to confirm I would be there in the morning. A younger woman (the daughter) answered the phone and told me she knew nothing about me and had already “promised someone they could look at it Tuesday morning” She refused to agree to what her Mother told me on Saturday, and confirmed that this other person had left no deposit, had no contract to buy the truck, and she only spoke to them on Monday. She was just playing some sort of game of “savesies” with it.
After confirming with another dealer that what she was doing was not at all legal, and she CANNOT refuse to sell me the vehicle that was publicly advertised without having a contract with someone else or some sort of issue with the vehicle itself, I drove out on Tuesday anyway. I was in the lot when Mr. Starr opened the business, I spoke to him and I explained what had happened, and he agreed that without having a deposit or contract, he legally could not deny selling me the truck, and apologized for his daughter. He said he would tell her he made a mistake, we didn’t understand what he was saying till his daughter showed up and we saw how she acted. Mr. Starr then proceeded to complete the transaction with us. His daughter arrived during the sale and berated this sweet old man for selling me the truck, because she could not wrap her head around what she thought was “right” in her own mind wasn’t necessarily legal. She was unable to understand her “promise” to someone else to “look” doesn’t legally remove my right to complete a cash in person purchase. She didn’t seem to care about the legality of the dealer license at all, and took it out on her own elderly father.
Moral of my story, when dealing with this place on the phone if you are far away, demand to speak to everyone there so they are on the same page and understand your intensions, record the call if you can so the daughter doesn’t call you a liar later, leave a deposit over the phone don’t accept any excuse on why they can’t take the deposit, but by all means only complete the transaction with Mr. Starr, he is a great old man, full of great stories, and the only one within the business that knows the business well enough to know what is legally obligated by the business. His 50 years of expertise speaks volumes. If his daughter hopes to one day take over she better start learning from him, and saver every moment she can spend with him. If you get the chance, please remind his daughter, you only get one father in life, and she should treat hers a little better!

Very happy with my purchase (2012 Toyota Tacoma) from the folks here. I live all the way down in south Texas so it was a bit of a process but Lisa and Melinda were awesome and helpful all the way through. The vehicle was as described and I recieved it in a timely manner. I will always remember the service I recieved here and hope one day to come across Starr's again!

I was ready to drive 3 hours to purchase a vehicle. Left a message with the secretary to have a salesperson call back which they never did. And each time I called, they revealed more things wrong with the vehicle I wanted. Website says airbag light is on. Come to find out the drivers seat is stuck in one position and the windows leak. Claimed he was going to call a window guy to fix it but just never did. These people don't care at all about their vehicles or selling a car. I've never talked to a salesman this unmotivated to make a living.
