The Cedar Motel, Sandusky OH

Came across this nice locally owned motel. The owner is involved and cares. Great restaurants within walking distance. Dog friendly motel, extra Star there. Nice. The view is Sweet.

My wife and I stayed at the Cedar Motel for our 27th Wedding Anniversary get away. Boy o boy.it was so so nice. First off Saundra was super helpful and so kind. The free snacks and beverages in the lobby were awesome. The room was perfect as we really just wanted a clean bed to sleep in and the room decor was perfect. You're hospitality was beyond what you get at any big hotel. Saundra made a fire for us in the fire pit and even had time to run to the store to get donuts for the morning. The sunrise in the morning off Sandusky Bay literally right outside our room was perfect. We'd definitely recommend them to anyone who needs a great clean room and not far from Cedar Point and Port Clinton.

We had a great time. You've been coming up here for years. The hotel is great. Everybody that help runs it is friendly and does more than any hotel I've ever been at.
Plenty of parking. Rooms are spacious. Have a nice size fire pit. We look forward to coming back every year.

It’s hard to write this review.
I know the pictures of the hotel look great. I know Saundra is a very nice, helpful lady…… really couldn’t ask for nicer. And the location is decent, and close to Cedar Point.
But let me clear up some of this. I really don’t see how, MOST of these reviews are 5 star. Almost makes me think that they are fake.
First of all, the location is wonderful. The bay view is, beautiful. The bars on either side have great food. Expensive, but good. The so-called convince store is not what it claims to be. You can’t get much, unless you’re looking for fishin supplies. However, you can door dash things you may need, from elsewhere. But the motel………. Is not as clean as it looks in the pictures. We stayed in the 2 connecting rooms in the front, so we could have the view. I believe they are #3&#4. Per Saundra’s advice. I had booked online, with AAA, and then I got an email, from Saundra stating that she thought these 2 rooms would suit our needs better. So we did that. I was really excited to come back to the Sandusky area, because it had been years since, I’d been. I wanted to stay close to cedar point, with my adult children. First, When I walked into the front office, I knew it was gonna be a dump. The office is gross. It’s yellow, from heavy cigarette smoke, and sticky all over……everywhere. There are coffee drips all
Over, and haven’t been wiped in forever. The kids, didn’t want to go elsewhere, after our long drive from home, so they encouraged me to “ get over myself” and push on. So I shut my mouth, and accepted the rooms………. Then we went to the rooms. They smelled awful. Like wet dog/ intone, and smoke. The rooms have not been freshly painted……. Maybe a few yrs ago, but not recent, and you can tell, by the “running” cigarette smoke stains, on the walls. The air conditioner has febreeze car vent clips for the smell that she’s already aware of. We went to open the window, and it was already open. No doubt the ppl before us thought the same. The vent clips weren’t from prior guests, they were from Saundra, as both of our rooms had the same, and my daughter noticed that Saundra had a lot of vent clips in her office. Again, the rooms were “ clean” to look at, but everything was sticky. The tv was too gross to touch, and so were the remotes. The fridge is yellow, and gross, and I didn’t even want to put the soda, inside the carrier, inside of it. The coffee pot……… don’t get me started on that. There was cobwebs, and spiders all in the rafters, as my daughter caught one dangling from the ceiling, and took it outside. Under the beds were dusty, and the floors were also sticky. The bathroom walls don’t go to the top of the ceiling, so when you turn on a light, and someone else may be sleeping…… it’s like shining a light into their faces. The shower backed up, and soaked the floor. And the toilet, may have been wiped off, but it was not clean. The bowel had a ring in it, to show that it hadn’t been scrubbed in about 2 wks. I used to clean offices, and I know it takes about 2 wks to develop a ring, in a toilet. That’s how I could always tell, if someone was doing their job properly. The sheets were clean. I was suprised! But I check everything……… so the sheets were clean, but the mattress had no protector, and it’s old as hell. The pillows were rock hard, and flat, again with no protectors, and they were stained, just as bad as the mattress. And all weekend long, I could clearly hear the man I’m the room next to us, snoring, as if he were right next to me. Literally. I’m trying to find something good to say. But there isn’t a lot. Besides Saundra is really nice. Apparently her adult son helps her “ keep the place up” I’m gonna go out, on a limb and say, maybe, she should go behind him, to check, rather or not he’s actually cleaning, the rooms. I do hope this review helps. If ya don’t believe a total stranger, I understand. Some have to learn for themselves. I totally did. And I won’t be staying there again. Good luck.

I can’t say enough good things about this lovely place. The Cedar Motel reminded us of our Springs motel back home. It was a home away from home stay, but with a fantastic view of the bay. Saundra was great and went above and beyond with 5 star hospitality. A lot of people always overlook the small Ma & Pa motels not realizing what a gem they really are. Our room was very clean, quaint, our air conditioner worked great, got very cool, there was a mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot to stock all our stuff. A little breakfast nook area to sit and at. The bathroom was very cleanly. It’s a great location, close enough to downtown Sandusky Bay, Marblehead, the ferry services for Kelley’s Island and Put In Bay, and several state parks. My family and I had a great trip and look forward to coming back for a visit at The Cedar motel!

A real gem! Groovy and vintage from the outside, clean and modern rooms inside. Genuinely kind and attentive service. Great coffee and food right next door. A pleasant and affordable choice for a visit to the Erie shores and islands, or a worthwhile detour if you're traveling east or west. Would definitely come back!

This hotel and the whole town is truly great. The owner is so very nice and helpful. They really go the extra mile. The rooms are super nice and cozy and the location is great. Right on the water and next to a bait shop / convenience store and 2 great restaurants. We will definitely be staying here again.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Cedar. The property offers beautiful bay views, friendly staff, and cozy accommodations. The staff were welcoming and always ready to assist. Rayz on the Bay and Bay Bell are within walking distance for food and drink which was an added bonus.

Used to stay here for bass tournaments all the time. It was pre-remodel but was perfect for just sleeping. Was way more affordable then. Looks great now but too pricy just for a sleeping room. Makes me sad. Perfect location for what we did. Now we stay at the White Caps Motel.

Had an amazing time staying here. Great location right on the water and the customer service was fantastic. Super pup friendly as well. Thanks for a great time!

We love this little motel in Bay View. We spend 5 days here a year ago and have another stay booked soon! It's a great location, great value, and Sondra makes sure that you have everything you need, she's an absolute gem of a manager. The rooms are clean and efficient, not to mention quiet. We'll see you soon, Cedar!

Absolutely wonderful place to stay. Room was small but comfortable and super clean. Owner was a sweetheart. I had a view of Sandusky Bay. There were 2 restaurants and a party store within 100 yards. She even had free snacks in the office.

This Motel was absolutely fantastic! It looks like an old hole in the wall 80s motel you would see on the side of the road and put in the middle of a town with a fabulous view of the bay. Once you open the door to your room the inside was beautifully remodeled! It kind of blew my mind since it looked a little sketchy on the outside. The staff is so friendly. The mattress was so comfortable, I slept the entire night for once! I will definitely be staying here again! Highly recommend!

The NICEST woman owns this Motel, it’s right next door to a pretty fun bar, and the rooms feel fresh and updated. Was a great road-trip stop for us with tons of fun memories

The staff was very friendly and hopefully. The room was clean and cozy. My favorite part was the view and location. The bed was little uncomfortable but other then that the stay was great.

Had an excellent stay! Rooms reminded me of being in a little cabin like deal. The view was amazing to wake up to, the service is great very nice lady and was very sweet. I’d definitely recommend
