5 We got up excited to greet the Sunday with donuts from this shop and stood in line at 6: 32. We were 4th in line and were there a total of 15 minutes [I state that to help others gauge their wait time].
This is an order at the window shop; I looked inside at two windows full of donuts and noticed inside there were many rolling racks full of them!
The donuts are very pretty to see. I remarked that the next time we visit, I want to try a cinnamon roll.
We took our selection back to camp to enjoy outdoors with our morning coffee.
I ordered my go-to pastries: a single glazed donut and a sugared cinnamon twist. My husband ordered the Long John and Apple Turnover [he allowed me to sample his]. We were both confused about the flavor of the Long John — was it caramel or maple? It was hard to distinguish as my palette only registered the taste of powered sugar from the filling.
Our selections were okay…nice to have with coffee, but not ‘gotta get there first thing’ level. Will I return for that cinnamon roll? Maybe next season…stay tuned…
Last 3 times was horrible. They have shrunken their milkshakes now and the lid doesn't even fit their cups so good luck not making a mess. I'd recommend anywhere else on the lake. Like anywhere.
When I was a little boy around 15-20 years ago my Grandpa who lived at the lake would take me here anytime I was staying with my Grandparents for the weekend. All these years later and they still have the best donuts I have ever had. My parents live at the lake now and I make a point to visit this place at least a few times every Summer. (It'd be more often if I wasn't trying to watch my weight). Cannot recommend a better donut place than The Donut Shop at the Lake!
Understated donut stand conveniently located next to boat slips and the main roads through town. Delicious donuts and hot cocoa to energize our family on a road trip. Beautiful area in Ohio and friendly staff. Parking lot had trash scattered around and two of the hot chocolates were all watery the first time around. Staff remade them and they were great.
