I learned that someone died there on the morning I dropped off clothes to a resident. Didnt even make the news? The front desk folks didnt even check anything in bag that I brought and check through the trash bag of items. I guess if I wanted to I could have stuck anything in that bag? Very non secure place for a drug rehabilitation center.

I worked for VOA Gettysburg several years ago.

The organization commits fraud against their workers and clients.

The staff are grossly under-trained and ill prepared and the management steals benefits by way of falsely classifying resident supervisors as part time workers while working full time hours. Approaching the subject resulted in a termination.

The clients are not taken care of. By the time I left in 2015, the place was at over twice the legal capacity with beds being stacked while showers and stalls were congested and unwashed. The quality of the meals was abusive and could not have possibly met the legal standard for inmate nutrition. I witnessed first hand multiple incidents of clients with specific nutritional needs going unmet, I witnessed multiple medical needs going unmet, and I witnessed clear favoritism and unequal application of institutional/legal standards on the part of the counselors that fomented resentment among clients.

The situation at the Cincinnati facility were absolutely appalling as well. If you're considering utilizing this facility for your rehabilitative services, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. This is not a decent organization run by decent people; it is a scam that is stealing money from the tax payer while providing quite frankly abusive living standards for the clients that jeopardizes the safety of the staff.

I really think this place is in a pretty bad location for being a drug rehabilitation center. Homeless shelter right next door with ppl standing outside on the curb drinking beer and doing who knows what. Really shadey characters in the area.

Imagine being on the phone with your loved one and hearing a specific staff member threaten your loved one REPEATEDLY. This is what I’ve had to listen to EVERY NIGHT! This is super unprofessional on every single level and to hear the threats is disgusting! Good luck Ron with your threats of firing people and threats of people’s wellbeing and safety. You have another thing coming your way. To hear you PLAIN AS DAY threaten these people and get away with it is absolutely insane. Don’t worry though Ron. Let’s hope you didn’t write a check you couldn’t cash when you threatened my loved one.

It has it's benefits just like any other place. You follow the rules and you do what you want. You have to get tight with staff it makes your stay a lot nicer. You figure it out real quick.

I've never been, because I'm a female of course. But this place is full of drugs. Their supposed to help you transition back into society but my ex overdosed on there. So that makes this place garbage!

It's a nice and clean halfway house. Partly because it's not a house, it's more like a center. They have a variety of programs. You are allowed to look for a job after a certain time. That's the biggest draw back. During the days while you wait for the probationary phase, there's very little to do with your time. Though it's still much better than being in prison.

Heaven for revolving door heroin addicts so they can still smoke cigs and do drugs. Hell for anyone leaving prison and trying to successfully return to society. Bedbug city.
Knew 2 guys who got out same time as me and went to homeless shelters and actually got a much better start than me until I was able to get away from the voa. They do all they can to hold you back. Worse than actual prison.

The VOA provided me a safe environment to transition back into society when I needed it,
There is Twelve Step recovery available if you want it, God's grace

This facility has been very unprofessional in the past. They kick out people from the program for petty violations. They do not return phone calls and this is not just my opinion this is my experience and I have asked other professionals and they have the same experience. I understand now they have fired a director and hired a new director so let's hope that they can change things around for the betterment of the community

This is my experience at Dayton VOA. Well the residents make it harder than what it is suppose to be. All you have to do is go to work pay your fee and stay out of trouble. Easy for some hard for others.
As for the staff they have always helped me when AI needed it. I have missed buses getting of work late and they come get me. My case manager is awesome, but does not get enough props. Their is a few staff that go out their way to make things hard, but over all it is not bad. Now it is not home, but to be able to go to work, save money and be around society. Well that is good to me.
So in closing I will say that I can appreciate the help on my feet after prison for 5 and a half years.
Thanks

Some of the staff may try to help you here. Don't count on it. It's worse than prison, because there's nothing to do all day. Expect your mail to get mysteriously "lost, " and hope your money doesn't.

Tips if you're required to go here: During your first two weeks, you will not be allowed to leave for any reason, not even to work (which means you'll probably lose your job if you have one.) So before you show up, especially if you're being released from prison, make sure you have everything with you that you'll need for a couple of weeks. If you're required to complete programming, you'll only be allowed to leave on escorted trips to the dollar store every other week.

Since the new director, Delia somebody, has taken over, even the staff hate it here. I would rather serve two weeks in prison than stay here for one.

The VOA is a terrible place. Don't ever go there.just kill yourself instead, you'll be better off.
