William Howard Taft National Historic Site reviews
17Beautiful piece of history to visit! You can take in everything here in just an hour or two! Be sure to visit the gift shop and grab some souvenirs!
William Howard Taft is a president that I knew almost nothing about before my visit to his Cincinnati birthplace. The historical site left me with an appreciation for his contributions to the country and a better understanding of what he stood for and how his family was connected to the community, other politicians, and the Republican party. The home has been heavily restored to put it back in the condition near his birth. Lots of reading is required to take in all of the displays. Worth a quick visit though.
We enjoyed our stop here. We got a tour in a small group and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. The could be a quick trip or as long as you want - outside of the fact that they close for a lunch break for their staff (as they should!) so just plan accordingly. A nice stop!
If I could give this place ten stars I would. Anyone who reads my reviews knows that I always focus on the accessibility. I have very limited mobility and use either a walker or an electric scooter to get around.
When we pulled up to this place and saw all of the steps and uneven terrain I was very disappointed and thought for sure that I would not be able to see the site. Not so!
All businesses should have to follow this parks model for making things accessible and train the staff to be as welcoming and helpful as the staff here. So…on my electric scooter they took me up a ramp that allowed me to enter the basement. In the basement there was an elevator built into the old dum waiter.
It was just big enough to fit me and my scooter and I was able to access and see every floor that everyone else on the tour saw. For once I wasn’t shut out of the tour because of my mobility. I was so happy that the staff goes through such lengths to make their visitors feel welcome.
I can’t thank the staff enough for making me feel welcome and accommodating my needs. I completely enjoyed the tour. I learned a lot from the very interesting tour guide and the displays throughout the house.
Aside from the house tour they have a small visitors center and gift shop.
A nice little experience to see former President Taft's home especially since my dad and grandfather were related to him!
A nice little place to learn history for a fairly nondescript president by today's standard. It was interesting to stop & see but I wouldn't make a special trip here unless you are a big presidential history buff.
Really neat to see all the rooms. Lots of things to read about the Taft family. Love that it’s free too.
Had an awesome time visiting Taft's house and museum. I'm pretty sure you will too!
Really cool to see a house that President Taft once lived in! The park rangers were very friendly and opened up the house for us to walk through even though we got there late in the day. The house is set up to tour on your own, with lots of informational displays throughout. There is also an exhibit in the visitor center itself, and a nice video on his life. We enjoyed it and I'm glad we were told about this little gem tucked away in the city! If you're an American History buff, you'll enjoy it!
Nice historic site, Dennis is a volunteer ranger and does a good job outlining the life and times of the Taft family. A nice place to spend an hour learning about William H. Taft's many accomplishments.
Was initially disappointed that tours were self guided. Since we were the only ones in the house we had the staff to ourselves. Was very insightful and we really enjoyed our visit.
Interesting historical site! Well-restored Taft family home. Informative video, and free ice cream treat!
The Rangers were both very nice. We had a wonderful afternoon there. The Ranger was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was very good with kids.
Love so much of the national parks system and what they have made available to us! This was a great place to come and see with knowledgeable park rangers.
We arrived too late to go inside. However, we enjoy taking pictures outside and reading some of the historical markers. Neat place to visit if you’re into presidential history.
We were blessed with an enthusiastic and knowledgeable ranger that provided a great tour of the site. President Taft is an underrated president deserving of recognition, which the NPS does so well.
If you like history and politics this is an easy visit. Small museum, short film, historic house.
