A Cut Above Exteriors

This past summer we had Renewal by Anderson and A Cut Above totally remodel the exterior of our home in West Linn. My wife and I can not be happier with the completed work. Our project manager Alex was AMAZING. The lead carpenters Andrey and Vlad were true craftsman. We look forward to working with A Cut Above in a few years for a new roof.

Alex’s crew wasted no time and quickly were able to get the job nicely done, inspite of torrential rain, my questions, and my change order! All navigated seamlessly. And the results: a house that will stand up to the worst weather the Columbia Gorge sends our way. This siding will stand any test of time.

A Cut Above did an amazing job redoing the siding on two sides of our home (along with addressing some dry rot issues). Their experience, attention to detail, along with open and transparent communication, alleviated all my fears. I am a retired engineer and generally do most of the maintenance work myself because of quality concerns, but Alex, Anatoliy and Ivan put me at ease right from the get go. We just completed a redo of our 112 yr old tired, worn down old lady with new siding, paint and windows.
From the beginning, with Bill McDermott as our contact person, Alex Cowlthorp as our project manager, Dimitriy and Nikolay Leonchick as siding experts and finally Vlad from Cascade Painting they managed to change our home into such a beauty.and we couldn't be happier. Their attention to detail and the obvious pride they take in their work is so very clear. The ability to finish our project as specified in 3 weeks was largely due in part because of how hard these guys work. Arrived at 7AM and left at 6 PM. The communication was always excellent and respectful and all crew were so patient with our questions.
Cut above is probably more expensive than others but you definitely get what you pay for! We highly recommend this company. Won't go wrong.

Our experience with A Cut Above Exteriors was tremendously positive and we are very appreciative for their work on our home. This is a company that is about integrity from start to finish which is a rare quality in today's world of home construction and improvement. The process of estimating the cost of the work to be done by Design Consultant Bill was meticulous and well thought out. He reviewed the budget line by line and explained everything. Changes are explained and presented for authorization and the work is done on time and within the original cost estimate. The work crews consisting of Justin and Martin, Roofing Crew, Nikolay, Anatoliy and Ivan, Siding Crew and Vladimir of Cascade Painting were extremely competent, conscientious and respectful of your property. They were a joy to watch and were pleased to discuss what they were doing and available to answer any questions. They work hard and enjoy what they do and they put in the time necessary to get the job done right and on time. The project was well managed by Randy, Project Manager through good communications and advance planning to address unique problems that existed for us. The quality of the project management caused the work to be completed in a way that did not cause significant or excessive cost overruns or work delays. This company recommends the best materials and installation process and provides the highest quality labor which results in value added to your home and peace of mind knowing that the working was done properly. They also back their work with a warranty. This is the way business should be done.

It was an amazing experience, working with Alex, Nikolay & Dyma they did a fantastic job on our new siding project, we are so pleased with the job. I would definitely recommend that team of guys, our house was completed in 4 days.

Cut above does a great job doing their work following a lot of input from the customer. They replaced siding on my 100 year old house with none of us knowing what would be found under the old siding. They had to make adjustments to the project without any slowdown in the work and after asking for my input. Excellent results and a lot of attention to small details. Also they come over to do their work right on time! Project was completed faster than expected. Thanks to the great crew!

A Cut Above was an absolute pleasure to work with. Our project manager Josh was extremely helpful; always answered any questions we had and helped explained the answers he gave so I was able to learn a lot about roofing and siding during the process. I felt comfortable asking anything and knew I'd get a helpful response regardless of if I thought it was a "dumb" question. Juan and Martin did an incredible job with our roof install and I couldn't have asked for a better crew. They were polite, helpful and kept the worksite clean the entire time they were here. I highly recommend working with A Cut Above; it was worth every penny.

Juan and Martin did an excellent job replacing our roof and together with helper Ivan, they kept the work site clean at the end of each workday. They also did a great job of protecting landscaping and property. Project manager Randy came by each day and answered all questions and handled any problems promptly. Bill provided several valuable suggestions on project design and selection of materials and quickly responded to any questions or concerns.

My experience with A Cut Above Exteriors went a lot better than expected. I was impressed with Erica and how she handled the initial scheduling of this project, along with additional schedules throughout the project. Jamie, the salesman, was very thorough in his explanation and ability to answer my questions. Next was Alex, the project manager. One of his best qualities is his ability to communicate the processes and steps being taken as the project moved forward. I always knew what to expect and who to expect as the project progressed. The crews of Nikolay and Dyma which handled the installation of the siding and painting, always kept the job site clean and organized. I can't say enough about their cleanliness of the job site.

Everyone that I dealt with at A Cut Above Exteriors, I found the following attributes, Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, and Responsiveness, were always held at a high importance, start to finish.

I contracted ACAE to replace the siding on my detached garage along with the garage roof. It was nice to have one company handle siding and roof work rather than try to procure the work separately. I had other contractors review the project and ask them to bid. ACAE was not the lowest bid, however they had other attributes that resulted in them being hired for the work. First they have been in businesses for several years and I have seen their work on other homes and their work, after several years, continues to look great. I have a 100+ year old home and they have a lot of experience with such homes in inner Northeast Portland. Second, they are a James Hardie certified contractor which carries some weight. Some of the other contractors that bid were going to use JH siding but were not a certified contractor. ACAE was able to provide a stronger warranty for their work, some of the other contractors had minimal warranties. Third, they were the most complete in reviewing the garage and determining the scope and scale of the work it needed. None of the other contractors even looked at the garage from the interior, for example. ACAE identified which sides of the garage would need all new sheathing and included that in the bid. Others did not and just said if we encounter rotten wood it will be replaced and added to their cost. I understand you cannot see all possible rot from the exterior or interior of a structure, but it was clear and obvious to me the south side would need all new sheathing. Also roofing materials included in another contractor's bid were much lower quality. Fourth, I believe that although ACAE bid was higher, other contractors were not as diligent with their bids and would likely have had change orders increasing their bid price as work was performed. Therefore ACAE was likely much closer on final cost than how it looked from bid comparisons.

Regarding the work itself, their crew showed up on time every day, worked diligently and left the job site organized and clean each day. My neighbors also noted how diligent the crew was. The job manager visited several times to inspect the work and give me updates.

IMO to grade a contractors work you have to consider how well they communicate and manage expectations, how well they listen and address your problems and concerns, how close their final bill is to the original, how timely they work from start to finish, how clean they do their work, the quality of materials used, warranty and of course finished product. From a value standpoint I am very happy with using ACAE for this project and the results are very impressive.

Through the years, and several homes that needed repairs or remodeling done, there is no better company to work with than A Cut Above. We are so glad we chose them for our latest projects. From start to finish, which included a few hiccups a long the way (that goes with every job), their expertise, professionalism and honesty made our project less stressful and overly satisfied with the end result. Every contact we had was friendly, concerns handled with care and their pride in their work shined through.

A Cut Above Exteriors just installed new Hardieplank siding on our property and the whole process was very smooth and quicker than I was expecting. We called A Cut Above Exteriors to arrange a quote to replace our siding on a two-story house in Troutdale. Bill came to our house for an intro and discussion about what we wanted done, then explained options and exactly what ACA could provide. We checked a couple of houses they had completed in our area and saw first-hand the quality of the work. Though not the lowest quote, we were impressed with the professionalism, attention to detail, and end-product quality. Then, we met the team of people who would do the work. What a great bunch of people! Alex, Anatoliy, and Chad had an amazing work ethic, were easy to work with, always respectful, and willing to answer any questions. The new siding replacement was completed as days allowed during a windy, rainy time. This, of course, delayed the painting. Once started, it was done as quickly as possible, and we are very happy with the result. The painting company worked with great care to ensure a high-quality result. In fact, it has never looked better, and we are very happy with the expert work they did. From the first call through the final walk, the ACA team worked with excellence and high proficiency while working on our house. We are happy, satisfied ACA customers.

From the quote to the final payment the company was great to work with. They were professional and treated our property and us with the utmost respect. We had a few outside the norm parts of the project and they handled it with ease. Pricing was upfront and transparent, there were no surprises and they held to exactly what they said they would do. Communication with the team, Josh, Andrey & Vlad was excellent. My only complaint is that they do not do interior remodeling as well. I would use this company again in a heartbeat.

We did our siding and exterior house painting through A Cut Above. This was our first major home project-and I was pretty nervous after hearing some horror stories from other companies, friends and family have used. We easily had 4-6 different companies come out and give us quotes. Mani came out, was hands down the most thorough and took the most time to explain what they do as a company, and what we could expect from start to finish. Where they the cheapest? Nope. Where they the most expensive, not at all. But after the amazing experience we had, I would and will use them again in a heartbeat. Josh the project supervisor was honest, took the time to explain everything in clear and precise detail. He was always available to talk and was patient throughout the entire process. The crew who worked on our house was Andrey and Vlad who where extremely professional, making sure each day the site was clean and safe for when my kids came home. Andrey stayed late one day so he could explain and answer some questions we had. It really showed how much pride this company takes in their work. After our experience-I could not recommend this company enough.

Next on the scene was Josh, the project manager. Some of his best qualities are his ability to problem solve and especially his ability to communicate. We were never wondering ‘what next’ with the siding install as we were always in the loop with where the project stood. He was able to answer all questions and put our mind at ease throughout the process. Josh even stepped in and helped facilitate some of our numerous issues with Renewal by Andersen who was the contractor on the new door entry. Even though he didn’t have to, he wanted to make sure our experience overall was as good as possible. I can’t say enough what a pleasure it was to have Josh on the team as it’s not often that you come across a project manager that goes that far above and beyond what would be expected.

We actually had two different install teams due to scheduling and timing with the door install. You would think there might be variations in their work, but they have the process down as you could not tell which team did which part. The initial team was Anatoli/Chad and the finishing team was Andrey/Vlad. Not only was their work impeccable but they put up with all my questions and me constantly being around since I work out of the house. Hopefully they weren’t annoyed with my hovering. If they were, they definitely didn’t show it.

I can’t say enough what a pleasure it was to have ACAE do our siding and I would not hesitate using them again for future projects. They are not the least expensive option, but you definitely get what you pay for in the quality of their work and their professionalism. Thanks again guys.
