Ace Hotel Portland reviews
17Very cute but not your typical hotel, which is the aesthetic they are going for. If you're looking for a hotel with history that gives lodge vibes then this is the place. The staff are incredibly nice too.
The hotel is in a great location and the staff are very patient and accommodating (especially Jaleah). The Rudy’s toiletries are really nice and the beds are very comfortable. Those are the unambiguous pros. The rest is a little more mixed. The rooms are clean and have cool touches (we had a record player with a great selection of vinyl and a guitar in our room), but they need a little love. The back rooms are dark and the aesthetic of the bedding has changed for the worse in my view. I loved the beige wool blankets that used to cover the beds. The best rooms are the deluxe king suites in the front so if you visit, I recommend staying in one of those rooms. The hotel no longer has a parking lot, but there is a pay lot not too far away so it could be worse. Beware the hidden fees when you pre-register for checkin which are definitely a bummer and really killed the vibe. It feels sneaky. Fees should always be stated up front. We have been visiting the Ace every year since our kids were little (COVID years excepted) for the Canadian October long weekend so we know the hotel fairly well and it was sad to see both Clyde Common and Pepe closed. COVID was really rough on Portland. It’s sad. We may be back next year for nostalgic reasons, but we may try something new.
It advertises as a hotel and charges hotel rates for what is more a hostel. There is no parking which led to my friends car being broken into, there is one or two bathrooms per floor. Even its location is irrelevant because you dont want to move your car as no parking is provided. So if its out of walking range then its dead to you.
Ultimately the price needs to be a third of what it is to reflect the experience or it needs to update and become a proper hotel
Room was quite small - like New York city small. The beds were basically on the floor- raised about 10 inches. The rolling, garage style door to bathroom didn't close all the way - an issue when there are 3 in room. I added one star for the good breakfast that was included.
I booked through a third party and accidentally selected a shared bathroom room option which was not ideal being 9 mos pregnant. Jalia (sp?) at the front desk was incredibly helpful in taking care of the situation. I so appreciate the hospitality and will definitely be back! Hotel has cool vibes and great location.
One of our favorite Ace hotel locations. Elevator requires a bit of patience but stairs are easy enough without luggage. We loved our room and enjoyed how easy it was to have our pup around. The walkability could not be better. Went to Toki and Lil Shalom and wow, yes. Go there for any meal you can.
This is our third time staying at the Ace and we keep coming back for the comfy beds, thoughtful amenities and chill staff. We always have a great stay. Highlights include:
- free breakfast
- photo booth
- postcards
- robes
- Rudy’s products
- relaxing lobby
- Stumptown coffee
- large shared bathrooms
- beautiful design
We are already looking forward to our next trip.
Grungy is the best word to describe the Ace. I had to buy cleaner remove the mould from the shower. You can hear stomping and walking from the floor above you while you sleep. The hipster appeal of the Ace does not outweigh these issues. Just stay at a regular hotel for the same price and receive a higher (regular) quality experience.
Location is great, walking distance to many restaurants, pubs, and food carts. I love the vibe and design of the hotel. The shared shower rooms/washrooms are well maintained and clean (I am very peculiar about it). I highly recommend this hotel!
Pretty nice. Basic room with a shared bath down the hall. Free pastries and coffee for breakfast. Coffeeshop downstairs and a deli next door. Good location.
I'm pretty sure this was or maybe still is a halfway house. The ole dude off Shawshank redemption stayed there when he got out. I'm almost sure of it, but don't quote me. ️ But foreal, definitely was not at all comfortable with my stay here. Rooms seem very boarding home-ish
Used to be one of my favorite hotels but with the closing of the bar next door it’s lost some luster.
The biggest issue was the lack of decent ac in the room as Portland sweltered. The front desk kindly brought a fan up but the room was clearly in need of renovation.
Got the king deluxe room and while nice at a glance - the room can’t get dark because there’s no shade over the one window. The bathtub is lovely but the water doesn’t get hot. Record player is a rad touch but it didn’t work. Wifi is awful. Alright place but for $330 bucks a night you can definitely do better. Also no parking at the hotel. Staff were lovely. Vibe was nice.
Had such a great experience. Location is literally walking distance to a lot of shops and restaurants. Definitely will have to come back.
The staff was incredibly nice. The room is clean, functional and stylish. Unlike other Ace hotels I have stayed at, all the rooms in this location have private bathrooms.
My partner and I had a great time staying here. Super clean and such attention to detail with amenities. Like cups for brushing teeth, umbrella, ear plugs. The water never ran out of heat. The staff were super nice and helpful. If you are vegan they provided vegan pastries and there is a coffee shop attached with a vegan breakfast option. They also have oat milk for the free coffee in the morning. My only gripe is it's too dark.
Nice room. I fit under the shower head, and I'm 6'2. Water gets hot, let it run fora minute or so, it's an older building. Nice wood floors. Staff was friendly.
