I brought my puppy in who who's baby canine hadn't fallen out and the permanent tooth was coming in along the inside of it. I went in a had consultation with Donald Otten, DVM. This is the summary of what they wanted to do.
Discussed treatment options, including extraction of 404, crown reduction followed by vital pulp therapy 404 and
orthodontic treatment using an incline plane following strategic extraction of 103 to allow 404 to fit and tip labially
into normal occlusion. This would require her to be put under two times at least.
All of this was going to be around $5000.00 to $7000.00. I thought this was what had to be done and felt pressured by them to get it done a few days later. Well I went home and just didn't think we could afford this so started calling animal dental clinics out of the Portland area. Fortunately I found one who was on the conservative side and said she would extract the baby tooth and the top tooth in front of her upper canine to make room and reformat her gum line all for $1500.00. She said we would have to do ball therapy to help push her permanent bottom canine out into the correct position. We did have to travel to Corvalis but the money we saved made it a no brainer. Our puppy is pain free and her tooth is not hitting her gum anymore.
I realize that the procedure Donald Otten, DVM had planned would have in the end worked but not giving us the choice of doing what we did just isn't right.

I'm still in shock at the estimate I received today to remove multiple teeth from my dog. $1000 an hour for labor. WOW, I bet you have a REALLY nice house. #gross get a second opinion.

Our 15 year old CKD kitty saw Drs. Bonner & Shafford for extensive dental work about a month ago. She had a history of advanced kidney disease and poor recovery following dental procedures so we hired the services of Dr. Shafford for anesthesiology. The care she received before, during, and after the surgery from everyone on the team was excellent and we are so happy we decided to go for it. One month later and her kidney numbers were the same as before surgery, evidence of Dr. Shafford's efficacy in protecting the kidneys in a high-risk case. She is healthier and happier than we ever imagined. Thank you to everyone at Animal Dental NW!

When I adopted my pomchi Aurora from the shelter at 8 years old, her teeth were already in pretty bad shape. We tried to do what we could over time to salvage the situation but unfortunately some of her teeth abscessed and she was in consistent pain, so our vet referred us to ADC for extractions of all her teeth because they were concerned about the possibility of her jaw breaking during the procedure. I was a nervous WRECK about the entire situation, and anesthesia had left my pup pretty sick during her initial cleaning procedure. She was 10, almost 11 at the time of the surgery, so her age also made me super worried. Fortunately for us we had Dr. Bonner taking care of her! The procedure went as smoothly as it could’ve gone, and they were very responsive throughout the entire recovery process. We could not have asked for better care, and they had great patience with me and my ten thousand questions! My girl just turned 12 and her quality of life is one thousand times better. Night and day difference. Plus she has a cute little tongue blep now!:) I cannot thank the team at ADC enough for taking such good care of Aurora and making the process as painless as possible for everyone.

This is a team of dedicated rockstars. They performed dental surgery on my 14-year-old Pomeranian/Chihuahua, who didn't do so well with a previous procedure under anesthesia. Three things stood out as exceptional:

1) Communication pre-, during, and post-procedure. The front office staff was awesome at fitting us into a cancellation spot and working with me to get lab results quickly (thank you, Ola and Sarah). Nurse Lisa sent much appreciated text and photo updates. The surgeon, Dr. Battig, called me before the operation and explained her thorough plan and gave me space to ask questions. Side note: my regular vet was super impressed with the complex work Dr. Battig performed on our pup.

2) Aftercare. Our dog typically has difficult recoveries from procedures, and I usually dread the moment we take him home from the clinic and we’re on our own with a piece of paper to figure out all the new meds…and the hiccups that often arise with our sensitive dog. However with ADC, I felt 110% supported. They did little demonstrations with the meds to show us how to administer them. They gave me a cell # to call with any questions. This leads me to #3…

3) Dr. Shafford = AMAZING. Dr. Shafford was our anesthesiologist, but she was also the person we communicated with most. She really, genuinely cares. After our dog’s procedure, she called or texted me each day (sometimes multiple times each day) to check in on our dog. He had some things come up that she talked through with me and gave me great guidance. It’s evident her heart is in her work. I’m so impressed by her kindness and attention.

Great clinic, we just had one small issue. My regular vet referred for significant and complicated dental issues. The surgeon at ADC, did not agree with my vet's assessment at the initial consult and agreed to do the procedure, but tried to send my cat back to my regular vet. My regular vet said that she did not have the skill for the procedure he needed and stood by her initial assessment, so we had ADC perform the surgery. When they got in, they found that my vet was correct and he did in fact have the significant diagnosis and problems my regular vet diagnosed him with. ADC did remarkable work, my cat had superlative care and he is doing great now, with significant improvement to his health. Again, I can't stress enough, the care was impeccable. Just took one star off for the initial consult snafu.

It's unfortunate to be referred to a highly recommended Animal Dental office to be turned away after been seen for a consultation by Dr. Bonner in May 2021 and never told at the time of the visit my dog turned blue and had trouble breathing. But yet scheduled for surgery today to be told, we will charge you for the dr visit but they don't feel comfortable in moving forward with the surgery because of my dogs breathing. One star for extra precaution, one star for your concern but minus a star because professionally this should have been handled differently! Not impressed with this location and hope to find another Dr that can be very open with me about my dog from the beginning, at her initial visit. Not later after tests done, xrays done, extra tests requested days before the surgery by Dr. Stafford, who told my vet that I wouldn't mind the extra charge and to request a radiologist review of the chest xrays. So unprofessional and unethical!

I can't say enough good about Dr. Battig and Dr. Shafford (Anesthesiologist) at Animal Dental Clinic NW. They went out of their way to assure that our dog, Sweetie was well taken care of through the entire surgery process - prior to, during and after surgery. They are kind, knowledgeable and truly care about your pet's health. I highly recommend them.

I was scared for my dog to have surgery. The staff gear was very comforting. I appreciate the way they treated my dog like their own beloved pet, I loved the comfort they gave me. Specific plan discussed, Exactly that happened, no surprised.

The staff was so kind and gentle with my old dog, and Dr. Bonner was wonderful. She had difficult news to give me, but she explained my options very clearly and helped give my dog the best care possible.

My 17 year old chihuahua with multiple gastrointestinal issues desperately needed a dental but her veterinarians were not comfortable putting her under anesthesia. Her newest vet (Dr. Ann Freeman) recommended taking her to Animal Dental Clinic. Not only were they able to do her dental and remove some bad teeth, but she had no issues with anesthesia by Dr. Shafford at all. She was able to go home just a couple of hours after she woke up. She did have issues with not eating but Dr. Shafford kept in contact with my via text multiple times a day and was so reassuring. She managed her medication doses every day and we got though it. I think it was probably harder on me than my dog. Both Dr. Battig and Dr. Shafford were great and I will be bringing her back in a year if she is still with me. It is expensive but I felt it was a good value for what we received. You can't put a price on relief from constant pain, inflammation and infection.

I very rarely write reviews, but this clinic - and particular Dr. Heidi Shafford, who is the anesthesiologist - have really surpassed my expectations. My cat got better care here than I've gotten in clinics myself. My cat has a relatively minor heart murmur, but had never gotten a dental cleaning and I was very nervous to have her go under anesthesia (I'm a very neurotic cat mom!). I chose to go here instead of my regular vet due to the presence of a veterinary anesthesiologist. Although they are better suited for cats who have health conditions that warrant professional anesthesiologist (and whose owners can afford the higher price tag that comes with it), if you have those nagging 'but what if something bad happens' worries like I did, this is the best place you could go for dental care.

BEFORE THE SURGERY: We had an initial consult with Dr. Battig, who actually performed the cleaning. The clinic has set up their front room for exams during COVID, and there is a small tent with a chair so you can watch through the large window and talk over the phone with the vet. Dr. Battig made a great effort to explain to me what she anticipated was needed during the surgery and the clinic provided an itemized pricing estimate. Dr. Shafford called me twice in advance of my cat's appointment to discuss her medical records and behavior, and make recommendations on medicating her beforehand to avoid sedation as much as possible.

THE DAY ITSELF: The clinic called me with an update midway through the cleaning itself, which was excellent. You really get the sense they're a well-oiled machine when it comes to the process and they do a great job of keeping you informed. Dr. Shafford met me outside when it was pickup time to explain how everything went and provide all the aftercare information and the various medications needed. She even provided her cell number in case I noticed anything wrong, and went above and beyond by texting me periodically to check in. I can't emphasize how helpful and relieving that was when I noticed some issues on a Saturday and the clinic was closed. She called me five minutes after I texted her to talk through.

AFTER THE SURGERY: My cat had a minor, self-caused complication - she scratched her chin due to irritation from the swelling and got an abscess in her jaw. She came back to the clinic twice, once for an antibiotic shot where they only charged me for the antibiotic itself, and once for it to be drained and cleaned. I was impressed at how quickly they fit me in, it was only a two day wait and they slipped me in between their other surgeries. I'm happy to report that three weeks on my cat is doing great now, three teeth down, and doesn't seem to bear a grudge against me for all the appointments, the foul-tasting antibiotics she needed regularly after the abscess, and the utter indignity of wearing a cone, which is all I really wanted anyway.

For specialty dental work for delicate dogs, we could not have received better service. Our 14 yo Pomeranian had all his remaining teeth removed in 2019. He came through like a champ and recovered quickly, as much because of the loving care he basked in as his own indomitable spirit. Thank you Animal Dental Clinic, our sassy little guy is 100% again!

This clinic absolutely lives up to their perfect 5 star reviews online. Dr Shafford, Dr. Battig and the rest of the team were empathetic, professional, and experienced. We worked with a few so I hope I didn't forget anyone. They took every step to make sure my senior cat, Toby, was comfortable and safe while we waited for surgery and continued to reach out the week following surgery, available even after hours, to be sure he recovered well. Emergency pet care during a pandemic is not an easy task, especially with emotions running high, and they could not have done a better job. This group genuinely cared about Toby in the process and I am so thankful.
