Battery Russell reviews
11I long to see information panels developed for this location. It would really fill out the experience. It’s a great historic location, however, and I appreciate being able to wander freely.
Really good acoustics! Been there several times in the past, decided to take the kid she loved it… however the graffiti… the rangers have tried to keep up with it…. Alas….
This is a fantastic place to learn a little about history and explore our past. We took the kids here for the first time and they enjoyed exploring the old battery and walking the trail to the bunkers. Course, we had to play a little hid and seek in the dark rooms just like I did when I was a kid!
We enjoyed checking out Battery Russell. There's also a memorial right next to the battery. We were able to check out inside the different rooms inside the battery, as well as climb up to the top of it.
I wish there'd been a little bit more information posted about the battery. I was curious about its role in the history of Fort Stevens. I wasn't able to learn that information until much later in the day, after we had already been there.
There is a very large picnic area, and grounds to walk on, down below the battery. A very pleasant place to stop!
It was very cool to see this up close! Next time I'll make sure to have time for the interpretive center.
This place was cool, but kinda creepy, too. We walked up past the main building, and found several other buildings to explore. Next time, we will be taking flash lights.
As i was growing up. I lived in portland. Traveled many times to the Battery. It's sad to see it now. With all of the graffiti, i will never visit again.
Very cool place. Would definitely go back and show others. Fun to walk around and through the batterys
Very cool, nobody there telling you what u can and can't do. You are truly free to explore
Coolest place Ive been to in a long while. The history is everywhere. My favorite part was walking through the bunker and imagining what life was like, stationed at Battery Russel.
This place was incredibly creepy. Nobody in the parkinglot. Haunting graffiti. We went at dusk, just as the sun was setting and needed flashlights. Even during the day you probably need a flashlight.
Felt like someone was watching the whole time we were there though.
