Bend Izakaya Ronin reviews
20Cannot keep hours. Embarrassing. I have been here 3 times during the stated opening hours and have only dined in once. Today they sat two parties but turned our party away. I am going to give up on this place.
Amazing. By far the best sushi this side of the cascades. Staff is awesome. Sushi is fresh and flavors are amazing. Many of the items are also gluten free, no substitutions required.
Do not eat here unless you want your digestive system wrecked from all of the cheap oil they use on the food in copious amounts.sushi tasted like it was taken straight out of the freezer, with little flavor.the worst food i have eaten in bend.
After a harrowingly disappointing experience at 5 Fusion Sushi and my wife and I's palette for sushi yet un-sated by Bend's offerings, we were recommended to visit Ronin.
We were wined (with sake) and dined personally by the restaurant's owner, Scott Byers, with an American twist on the Japanese omakase.
One of the best sushi experiences yet to date, Scott's choices in delicate sauces kept my soy sauce plate untouched as the man's immaculate attention to detail prevented me from having to add anything to the already blissful taste of fish.
Scott told us his story as he prepared us dish after dish - beginning as a food truck, going to Japan and training with "mama-san" in many forms of Japanese cuisine.
Do not miss this place and make reservations with Scott and be regaled with his "omakase".
Unfortunately this place was a great food cart but has gone down hill as a restaurant. Extremely overpriced and the service was VERY slow. $100 for 2 small plates and drinks? !
My first time having sushi. I was a little nervous having raw fish. But the experience was more than expected, unique, flavorful, frankly awesôme! Scotty, thank for this incredible evening.
We had an amazing dinner. I highly recommend the chefs tasting omakase menu. It was so fun wondering what would come out next. Every plate was so different than the last, and so good.
Wowowowowowow. Absolutely best spot in Bend! Went for my birthday and just had them bring me and my husband what ever they felt like and everything left us just leaning back amazed at how good it tasted. It was worth every single penny and we are definitely coming back for more! Absolutely loves it!
The food here is amazing! Went for my birthday and ordered quite a few dishes. I had a great time and went home feeling good! A dinner to remember. Be sure to call ahead and get a reservation.
It’s always a pleasure to eat here. Bend may be a small town but Ronin could stand up against high end sushi spots in places like San Fran or New York City. The people have real passion and it shines through in the food they serve.
I grew up on a boat on the Pacific, my dad a weathered sea captain. I later became a deckhand on our charter boat, so to say my standards are high for fish would be an understatement. Izakaya Ronin is outstanding! There is such attention to detail in every part of the restaurant. From the table setup, to the atmosphere and the food! I loved learning that their fish is caught sustainably, you can tell it’s high quality fish. Their hamachi sashimi was the perfect texture and melted like butter. The flavors they used in their ceviche…. Excellent. I would watch them prepare the fish from across the restaurant and you could see the attention to detail and the care they put in to preparing each plate. I can’t wait to come back for that hamachi carpaccio! Keep up the great work! My new favorite restaurant!
This place is has hands down the best Japanese cuisine in town. Bit on the spendy side but well, well worth it! Staff is great and are very friendly. Definitely an experience. I would highly recommend going here. We will absolutely be back. Also the Sake selection is fantastic. The waitress curated the menu and has an understanding of it that will knock your socks off. (Sake newbie here) Try these guys out and you won't regret it!
This restaurant has gone through a lot. They used to be a food truck and then they moved to this location and shortly there after Covid happened. We first went in 2019 and we were so happy about it. Their goal and dream was to make a purely omakase sushi restaurant. We were excited for that. We weren't able to make it back until the beginning of 2020 and as expected it wasn't great anymore. Then at the end of 2021 we had friends urge us to go back and try it again and we did and they are right back on track to their omakase sushi restaurant. Scott and his team try and be original and unique as possible and some of his ideas are really good. You won't find a California roll here or something with cream cheese. They are as good as it gets here in Bend. With a little more work with their rice, you wouldn't know it wasn't run by a Japanese owner.
They recently brought on two new chefs and I can't wait to get back and see what magic they come up with.
I am not going to comment on freshness of the fish because it is hilarious to me when people talk about that. Don't comment on the freshness, comment on the quality. Quality.
Pretty basic. Be sure to look at the menu on their website as their menu has changed now that they are takeout only.
Wonderful service & food is outstanding. By far the best place for sushi and Saki in Bend. Try everything on the menu.
Amazing! Very nice atmosphere, staff is super friendly and so nice. Food is really good.
Now In my list of favorite places. Highly recommended
Great service. Enjoyable environment.
But I’d suggest going elsewhere for sushi.this place is overpriced for what they prepare. We ordered 3 rolls, all were a bit lack luster. No awesome flavors or wow factors, yet $17 each. And we were really surprised that the most expensive role we ordered, chef’s choice, $24, was a basic shrimp tempura roll with avocado. What? We were shocked and super disappointed in the restaurant for this choice. Granted our server took care of us and the chef made another roll, but what a big miss.
Doubt we’ll go back but if we do it won’t be for sushi.
Make sure you make a reservation!
Would give 6 stars if possible! This has become our go-to spot for Japanese/sushi in Bend. Great sake list and a menu rotates depending on what's fresh, and it never disappoints. Staff and service is always wonderful to boot!
Live in Bend long enough, and you're rarely surprised by creative and quality dining experiences. My first trip to Ronin was right after they opened, and right before covid threw a wrench in everything. I was blown away, but then restaurants shut down for indoor dining. I tried to support them with take out, but it just wasn't the same experience as bellying up to the bar and ordering omakase. Fast forward to last week and I'm back. Scott and Eugene put together a meal so delicious, so inventive, so flavorful, that I had to share it online. It was as if I had been transported to another place. Surely this experience is only available in a large city, provided by a celebrity chef with 5,000+ reviews. But no, I was here in Bend eating bites and flavors I've never had in my life. My wife took pictures and notes, but I just soaked up the moment. I don't wish to share specific dishes, or try to tell you what to expect. I only wish to say that expectations were surpassed. In a city where the best restaurants are Ariana, Bos Taurus, 900 Wall, Zydeco, and now Bosa, Ronin has added their name to the list. They've accomplished it their way, their menu, their hospitality, in an unassuming venue that makes other izakayas proud. What a truly fantastic moment in my life, my wife and friends by my side, a mix of Asahi, champagne, and white burgundy, and the warmth of sushi chefs creating a once in a lifetime meal. I invite anyone reading this to try Ronin. Open up to trying new flavors. This is one of Bend's best restaurants, and know that when they say "irasshaimase" to you, they truly mean it.
We did the Omakase and it was the best restaurant experience in Bend! 100% recommend! Morgan our waiter was wonderful and we can’t wait to go back
