Big Lake Youth Camp reviews
10Great facilities for Pacific Crest Trail hikers, one of the best stops on the entire route!
Very friendly place and staff for PCT hikers. Laundry, shower, plugs, shelter.show them some love and don't forget to give à bit of cash (donations).
The camp for pct hiker is not easy to find so don't wait after nightfall.
Hands down… BEST family camp experience ever! Staff is amazing, super fun and safe activities all day long, and beautiful venue!
This is a beautiful youth camp on the shores of Big Lake, close to Sisters, OR. Also used by PCT hikers, Forest Service, and military reserve as well as other groups. The land is owned by the Forest Service with the sponsors of the youth camp having a lease for something like 50 years at a time. Many young people have had the opportunity to attend summer camps there over the years, or spend their whole summer working there. It's quite an opportunity! Most recently a much needed new lodge housing the dining hall was constructed. New girl's cabins were built prior to the lodge. Improvements are always ongoing.
Such a generous welcome for PCT hikers, plus clearly safety conscious for their young people. Good job team!
I grew up going to Big Lake Youth Camp and I'm proud to send my son there now. He'll have memories for a lifetime like I do.
AMAZING. My camper had an awesome experience, the activities were well organized and provided lots of opportunities to try new things. Everyone was really kind, especially my camper’s counselor, Skylar.
Awesome location a few minutes from hoodoo ski area. Great winter rec, snow mobile x-country, sledding. Comfortable lodging at the Hillside Chalet
Well I really enjoyed it. But that was back in the early 1960s I was there the first year opened
Horrible! Apparently 8-12 year olds are old enough to vote on not doing things their parents paid for. And they're apparently old enough to vote to not go to church/sabbath event while attending this private church camp.
The management onsite is incompetent (and very young)
I had several complaints, so I tried to file a single complaint (about not receiving the mail service I paid for) and this 18yo lady just says "sorry" with short retort and tried to walk away after, had to stop her and she reluctantly have a refund. I called the head of the camp as well as emailed so my concerns, but got no response.
They also stole $20 from me via their online "mail a camper" system and the "refund" was a credit to their website store which you can't redeem (tried, but knfbreader redeem on anything). We will not be paying to go again. And I strongly advise other parents to not waste your money.
This is just part of my complaints, it was a horrible experience and my daughter didn't have much fun either because he cabin voted to not go do certain things.
