Break Bread reviews
19 The food is absolutely incredible, but good luck catching them while they’re open.
They have always closed by 5pm and on Sundays, but recently changed their hours to also be closed on Saturdays.
So unless you work from home or downtown, you will probably never get to enjoy their sandwiches.
I got my first sandwich at the former location even though there was a line outside, which I was actually happy to see because it just shows how much people like the food, I didn’t have to wait long. The service was really efficient and friendly. I took a walk around the block, stopped at a shop, and by the time I came back, my sandwich was ready. The bread was delicious, which is no surprise, since that is featured in the name of the store, and it is baked fresh daily, which so many sandwich shops do not do. As a vegetarian, often I’m not able to find something at a sandwich shop, but they had so many options that I had a hard time deciding. Now I typically get either the Credible Hulk or the VLT.
I just found out that they are one of only a few small businesses that offer full healthcare to their full-time employees. I just typically don’t see that, and that is part of my value set as well. I really love supporting companies that do the right thing. I highly recommend you make this part of your weekly treat to yourself.)
The chubby Puggy on Dutch crunch is soooo good. I also feel unreasonably happy saying “chubby puggy on Dutch crunch” it’s such a vibe. Also, it’s so good that I once drove in the beginning of a snow/ ice storm to pick up said chubby puggy.
Absolutely loved this place! Stumbled upon it during our drive through Portland and will definitely be back. The Bahn and “Someone on the Balzer” were both incredible. These are top notch sandwiches! Highly recommend
The sandwiches are not overhyped, they’re amazing. Just don’t try to go during lunch time!
Absolute best sandwich I've ever had, ever. I ordered the credible hulk and it was amazing. I don't live in the area, but every time I visit Portland, I will definitely be coming here every time. I highly recommend. The staff was also very nice, especially given how busy it was.
We got the strami and the Italian on French bread and these sandwiches are legit. So fresh, so good. 10/10
I love break bread so much but recently their gluten free bread hasn't been as good.it used to be The Best gluten free bread I'd ever had.idk if the recipe changed or something but please Break Bread bakers if you see this, please, please I need that gf bread back: +)
Been here twice. Great sandwiches, set up well. Trying to bring many more people this way!
I have ordered from Break Bread several times, but the one sandwich that made a serious impression on me was the October sandwich, No Woman No Rye. It’s a pastrami sandwich with sauerkraut, garlic aioli, provolone cheese, and red lettuce. Each of these ingredients complement one another. The creamy garlic aioli and the mellow provolone with the strong flavors of the pastrami, acidic sauerkraut, and slight bitter red lettuce. Only downside is it’s not available all year round.
Fantastic, fresh sandwiches. Highly recommend the Italian. Service was awesome. Great places like this is what makes Portland so great.
Very nice sandwiches, although quite expensive. Note that photos show indoor seating but (at least currently) it's takeaway only. It would be good if owner could remove these pics as it's easy to miss that there is no dine-in anymore.
Excellent sandwich. Loved the garlic aioli and dutch crunch. Close to our favorite back in SSF Little Lucca's.
I love Break Break! The sandwiches, the bread, the sauces are amazing. I try to go there every time I come into town to visit my daughter. They are located in a sweet little neighborhood. They always hit the spot.
The sandwich was fresh and tasted great, but was 75% bread. The meat/veggies were scarce, and honestly should have been half the price for what we got. I was disappointed, having seen photos of all the hearty sandwiches in the past. Not sure if it was just the person who made our sandwiches, or if that’s the new norm, but $15 for a roll with half an inch of sandwich filling just isn’t worth it, no matter how good it tastes.
Also, we couldn’t go inside and there were only 2 small tables around the corner.
So good! And the cashier could not have been more friendly and courteous. Loved the credible hulk on amazingly good gluten free bread. Wish I could have included a picture but I ate it too quickly!
Great sandwich, slow service.
They serve phone/mobile orders before walk ups. Can be standing there for a few minutes fluting lunch rush. Order ahead.
No where to sit and eat.
Get the Dutch Crunch!
Love the Name ‘Break Bread’. So, I had to try them out. Reminds me of ‘breaking bread’ with believers in the body of Christ. Ordered a #1 turkey on sourdough. Standalone sandwich $14.50. Yes, it was good. The place looks clean and organized, which is nice. It is a walk-up window only.
It’s dangerous for my paycheck that I go by this place all the time - truly one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. Always absolutely delicious and the staff are always so nice!
