Cafe Du Berry reviews
20I was so looking forward to our first visit, we took 4 banana grape muffins for our children and before they bit into them, they discovered there was mold in them, bright green spots.it was so disappointing. The hash browns I ordered were rushed and dry, not crispy at all, chalky and only cooked on the top side. The carrots cake was nice The atmosphere was nice, but unfortunately the food did not meet expectations. Also, best not to come with children.
The best French Toast is the best I’ve ever had! So soft and custardy
Update: still fabulous!
Incredibly misleading - The website says anything can be made vegan friendly. I called in and was told i could only have a salad with no toppings and an english muffin. Get with the times. And also update your website and take the word vegan off the front page. Then ill change my review.
Very friendly staff and a great outdoor heated patio (in addition to indoor seating)! We enjoyed the food, in particular the mouthwatering pepper steak, French onion soup, and not-too-sweet cheesecake.
The lemon curd french toast gets this place a 5/5 from me. It is truly heavenly. I don’t know if the the lemon curd part is seasonal or not, but it was what they were serving when we went and it was divine.
Otherwise, I would give this place a 4/5. Definitely make a reservation. The service is a bit slow (but they were obviously working very hard). Our eggs Benedict and omelette were luke warm, while the potatoes and French toast were very hot, so obviously they have a timing issue with plating.
The heated outdoor patio is charming.
Wow. I know it’s French-ish, but they have the worst customer service. I have never waited so long for attention. I guess it’s a good place to go if you want to get ignored.
Went there Saturday night at 6 p.m. It was not too crowded.
Rack of Lamb was cooked beautifully but after waiting more than 30 minutes after our salad, it was served room temperature. All other food item's were piping hot. When spending $100+ on dinner I expect better.
Salmon Benedict was ok, the French toast was flavorful but soggy. Not as good as other places in SW Portland. Table and chair outside was uncomfortable. Decor and overall atmosphere of the building was run down and dirty. This place is ok but way over rated. There are many better options for brunch in SW and around town.
Lovely cafe with friendly staff! The food was exactly what we asked for and more. I really enjoyed the House special French Toast. The lemon custard was perfect between the bread. The house hollandaise was delightfully simple. Hefty portions on each plate we definitely had some to take to go. Will be happy to return!
The food here is mostly bland, we had the two egg breakfast with bacon and a side of hollandaise. The side of fruit it come with was five grapes and 1/3 of a banana and the toast was one slice of sandwich bread wheat toast. Everything was all together so the fruit was hot and the bread soggy. The eggs tasted and had the texture of powdered eggs and the hash browns were dense and flavorless. Although the bacon was thick and perfectly cooked. The prices are also different than what is online. A meal that said it cost 34$ cost 42$. Prices have gone up so it’s understandable, but false pricing isn’t. I even called in the order, so they did have a chance to mention the price change. False pricing is a big eww for me. The people are friendly and the decor was cute, hence the three stars.
Holy smokes I was blown away by breakfast! Simple menu with items they’ve perfected and friendly service. The peppercorn gravy on my steak was phenomenal. Definitely in my top 5 for breakfast in town, made even better by having reservations.
Was disappointed in how bland the food was. I made a reservation and looked forward to it all week and was very let down by how thoroughly mediocre it all was. The hash browns were mushy and had literally 0 seasoning on them. I make better omelets at home, and they don’t even have cholula to hide how bad it all is. I won’t be back. Editing to add: the upstairs was so humid and warm. Felt like eating in a sweat box. Just a bad time all around.
Some of the worst breakfast I've eaten. 5 whole dollars for miserable drip coffee. The French toast which was their signature french toast dish was using regular old store bought white bread, and their "fruit" was just a bunch of green grapes and half a banana. The French toast awful and just soaked in some weird syrup dredge.
This restaurant is for old timers and boomers. Save your 20 dollars and go elsewhere
What an adorable little hot spot. Not much to see from street view, but there outdoor patio is very inviting. You can tell they put in some great effort. Our server a sweet pixie of a young lady. She made sure we needed everything. If you are a French toast connoisseur like I am. You will be happy to know I the state of Oregon. This now ranks one of my top 3 for the best French, custard soaked French toast. Husband got the cream spinach. We cleaned our plates that day.
Nice and cozy restaurant in SW Portland. Their menu was leaning towards eclectic. I just got the appetizer and some coffee. But the stuffed fig was delicious. Bread was on the house, Coffee had unlimited refills. Their entrees were pricey for sure.
They had a decent amount of outdoor seating with gas heater towers and overhead heating. So, this place is ideal to dine in during winter as well
Overall a nice cafe to visit on a weekend
Food was good. But honestly, $5 for aug of drip coffee is crazy. Also, I don't need grapes on my creamed spinach omelette. And it didn't look like anyone else did either. Great patio.
I get the French toast every time. It’s so good and no one else makes it the same way they do! I’ve sampled other items when dining with friends and it’s all good as far as i have experienced.
First of all, the food here is excellent.
We came as a party of four for Sunday brunch. We didn’t have a reservation, so it took quite a while to be seated, which is certainly to be expected.
We weren’t enamored by how long it took for our server to get to us once we were seated, and our food took quite a long time to get to us once we ordered. Maybe they were short-staffed, I don’t know, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back on a Sunday - maybe they have more cooks on other days.
I can see that this café gets high marks from many of its guests. I can only write about my experience. I wanted to have lunch but oddly enough they only serve breakfast on Sundays no matter the time of day. So seeing the need for flexibility, I ordered the salmon benedict. The sauce was a bit too thick and smothered the poached eggs somewhat in excess. The poached eggs themselves were quite good and done to perfection.
Then I ordered the creamed spinach on the side. The so called creamed spinach was more like thick white sauce flavored with speckles of spinach.
The regular coffee cost $5 which I can see paying for a latte. The service was sluggish and no one came to ask if everything was OK. Lots of waiting.
Best breakfast in oregon! Highly recommended the spinach omlette! Had been going there for 28 years! Unfortunately, moved out of oregon will be greatly missed. French toast is super yummy too! It is 1huge piece of Texas bread thickness very rich. Their muffins are taste too! Everyone raves about the coffee
