Pediatrician Calcagno Pediatrics reviews
10I have been taking my Kids here for over 10 years and the service has gone down hill. I will be finding a new DR after our last appt here on 1/27/23.
I withdrew my child from their care after hearing about Dr. Mason's involvment in SEGM. This lead me down a rabbit hole of research to see them being heavily criticized by long standing medical professional organizations, like the Endocrine Society. It takes a lot for professional groups to criticize other professionals and this should be seen as a red flag. It should be disclosed that a provider is seen in such low regard by their peers. If Dr. Mason is willing to go so far against consensus in this, what does that say about her judgment in other areas? I will not be taking my daughter back and I'm angered this is not disclosed.
The office refused to see my sick child in person they would only see him virtual. How can you have a exam virtual when he is having stomach pains?
So today, after all five of my kids have been patients at this clinic for the last 10 years, I switched them to a different office. Unfortunately, the service and quality of providers have gone down hill or quite some time. Most recently, My daughter had a virtual visit on a wednesday where I was told, as usual, that what my daughter was experiencing was just viral but to ease my anxiety i was welcome to bring her in for a strep and covid test the following morning by pulling in the parking lot and someone would come out. We did. A few hours later I was called and told both test were negative. Friday morning I called again and told them that along with the previous symptoms that were getting worse every day, along with her super hot to the touch skin, she had developed a rash and that I really felt like she should be seen in office. They agreed and a few hours later we went in. As always, I was told that this was viral, to give her benadryl to help with the rash that was most likely from the heat of her scorching skin, and were sent out the door. Friday night she developed a 101 temp and knowing good and well that she would never get any proper medical care from her Dr. I took her to Randells Children hospital. The Dr there told me that this was TEXT BOOK Scarlett fever, her throat was super irritated and that she definitely did have step. I explained that the test taken by her Drs office came back negative, she explained that she was sure, she was testing her again and that she most definitely has Scarlett fever. Welp, turns out she was right. My daughter was put on antibiotics and has been feeling better every day. I am really disappointed with Calcagno Peds. It seems like that just isn't the place if you want to be heard in regards to your children's health. It appears that numbers are far more important than quality care, and I really hope that at some point, this office is able to get back to the days where quality medical care is important and children's health is taken seriously.
Untrained staff, doctors do not care.
It looks like they let the staff get away with abuse in this location.
We came in for a two week checkup, they needed to draw blood for newborn screen. They placed the hot packs on her led and foot without popping them. I had to pop them myself, I had to call them back in when after the hot packs started to cool beacuse they forgot we were there.
Drawing the blood onto the card:
The person drawing the blood had to change gloves beacuse they had blood all over. There was blood on the card, on the bed, and two cotton balls were completely red.
After the card for the newborn screen was complete, we saw that there was a bruise on to top side of the two week olds foot from where excessive pressure was used.
Letting the doctor know:
Initially the person doing the blood draw tried to tell us the doctor is too busy, after we said we will wait. The doctor appeared.
We let the doctor know of the events and the doctor seemed to make a note.
While leaving the business, we saw the same person who did the blood draw taking another baby into a room. No corrective action.
It looks like they let the staff get away with abuse in this location.
My first born was born in August. And his doctor is name Ashley. She is so sweet and gentle. The front office are also kind. I picked the right place!
Benefits from proximity to Mount Hood Medical Center and their maternity ward. Doctors are fine, but service has dropped significantly in recent years. Assistants and staff don't return calls, important appointments are pushed out. Monetizing medical issues now seems more important than patients are. After well over a decade, I will not be back.
This review is for Dr. Mason as I cannot attest to the care of the other physicians. Dr. Mason is nice and quirky and we really liked her for a long time. A couple of red flags should have been a misdiagnosis here and there and antibiotics that didn't work and therefore resulted in additional trips to the office and more prescriptions, but as a Healthcare provider myself, I understand that no one is perfect and that pediatricians have to know a lot about everything with kiddos because they aren't specialists. Here is where my problem comes in, I took my child to Dr. Mason because I knew that my child was anemic. All the signs were there. Dr. Mason refused to check labs and shrugged it off as "dehydration". There was another incident when Dr. Mason acted extremely unprofessional when she didn't agree with a course of treatment from another specialized provider. As a result, I switched providers and finally got some help with my child's anemia which at this point was severe and took MONTHS to repair. Now that I have an excellent provider, I realize how much Dr. Mason did not listen to my concerns and how "old fashioned" her care and practice is. In summary, she's great if you child is "well".
We have been using Dr. Calcagno since my 14 year old son was born and his older brother who was 9. My 4 year old son has been seeking Dr Mason since he was born. I love the care my kids receive here and I wouldn't take them anywhere else.
